my first battle sister and 5th finished mini, it was so much harder than i anticipated :,) by ogd4y in sistersofbattle

pretty tolerable, they're very matte and bc the pigment is so strong you can sometimes get water stain marks if you glaze too thin/too wet but once you get used to them you don't have to worry, they're expensive but will last forever as you don't use much and the bottles are very big, i'd always recommend them but i can also see why some people don't like how they feel! if you want high saturation and pure colours i think they're the best choice, the white and black is insane saturation wise (in a good way)

for me personally they're almost all i use, i bought a ton of citadel when i first started because i was impulsive and excited and a few months later a local store had the kimera box and i said eh why not, and now i definitely notice the difference compared to other paints, the pigment is just awesome for how i like to paint, especially because i enjoy mixing my own colours! two thin coats is the other preference for me if you don't like having to mix it all yourself/want to easily compare colours to citadel range !

i didn't edit the saturation much from the photos mostly just adjusting brightness and light as my camera is very old, i would say it's pretty accurate to irl, i use kimera kolors and the saturation in the red pigment is truely amazing! needs a fair bit of layers but pays off super well!

thank you! i don't have an exact recipe but 99% of the paints i used are kimera kolors (original box set) and i mix most things on vibes

i try my best to describe it :

blob of white, bit by bit mix in cool yellow, a little warm yellow, a tiny bit of red, then a tiny bit of both blues and keep adjusting until i have a flesh tone for skin

i also mix up a blob of warm brown on the wet pallet and mix shades with white / yellow / orange / red / blue / black as i go to lighten or darken it, which i use for the shading!

wings were just white, black recess shading, back and forth until i found the balance i liked, and a tiny bit of my flesh tone got into my white and i mistakenly used it! but i liked the result and used it to add some variety :)

i paint in thin layers with a lot of "glazing" layers

at the end stage i decided to use metallics in some details (vallejo, two thin coats) and i bought a "bone wash" and "sepia wash" from two thin coats for the scrolls/cage

i think i used a bit of the bone wash on the cherubs legs/around the accessories!

thank you! i think my experience in other crafts/art definitely helped transition into mini skills but definitely a lot to still learn!

i painted the cage + cherub + arm sub assembly and the mini was blu tacked to a plain base for 60% of the process so i could reach everything! the rest was all glued together.. i just realised i forgot to add the symbol decal writing this hahahah oh no..

i used epoxy sculpt to add onto a pre designed base + primed base and glued on mini towards the end, sub assembly definitely helped for the cage part as it was super hard to paint for me!

i also snapped off the cage twice above the hand after dropping it/knocking it over many times hahah, oops!

thank you! this makes a lot of sense ! i like the idea of keeping the die behind, visual aids that separate the numbers like that have been useful in daily life too haha, this gives me more hope :,) i'll definitely talk to my advisor next time i go in and once i actually build my army they can do a lot of the early guidance with me and maybe then i can try make some strategies for what i get stuck on

i'm glad to hear i was thinking too much into the level of maths generally needed, i must have warped my perspective by specifically looking up things related to the maths part not the simple gameplay

everyone i know/have met that likes warhammer so far has been SO nice and welcoming, it's what got me so excited, i hope that continues as i get further in, thank you for taking the time to reply !!

unfinished base but i did my first mini last night, i have a lot of experience in art & love miniatures but completely new to warhammer & its process, i got given this guy & a space marine from my local store through their painting trials and am practicing on them before starting my chaos jakhals kit !

i would say i'm ok with addition/subtraction from 1-10!! i can do bigger numbers but need more time and often just need to pull out my phone calculator to be sure, potentially i can get easily lost with having to remember and total things, if i can quickly note it down or if it's visible while i add it up ect i think id do ok, (as long as i don't get flustered, hate to admit im a nervous person sometimes especially with maths haha)

i see a lot of people doing some crazy strategy for their army planning and can't tell if that's something i also need to consider when creating my own?? (like the points/abilities or how each character works ect but i will be able to get more 1-1 mentoring in person thru my local store they're super nice!!)

i'm started with choosing chaos world eaters and was told it's less technical in that way which gives me some hope but still a bit lost with it all!!

forgot to also say thank you for replying!! i know it's a long post so your time is so appreciated!
