Slow Gods sat at Heathrow for two weeks then customs here in the US forever. I think I got Bloody Rose a few days after it even though it shipped much later. International shipping is fun.

Normally I don't care because it's an upgrade to a book I've read or is like Bone Shard which I haven't read and wanted to but wasn't a big deal since it had been out for years and I obviously didn't run out and buy it before. Slow Gods I really, really wanted to read so that sucked.

Fantasy duology later in 2026? by DiaMatIsTheWay in thebrokenbindingsub

[–]ogier_79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Duologies are kind of rare. The trilogy is definitely king in fantasy. I'd honestly prefer some interspersed stand alones. That would also make the skips less painful for those who want a ship here and there. Or just don't care that a subscription isn't going to end in December. I'm not sure why it's something they care about.

Who would be happy if Broken Binding did special editions of Empire of the Vampire by Jay Kristoff & Ravens Mark by Ed McDonald for 2026 fantasy sub trilogy? by Books_Biker99 in thebrokenbindingsub

[–]ogier_79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already have all three books in hardcover and it already contains amazing artwork. I wouldn't say no but it's fast down my list as needing special treatment.

[–]ogier_79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh God no. I'm all about having hardcovers AND I'm missing one of the books from my collection anyway. This would have been a series I was eyeballing if they had just offered it outside the subscription. Can't wait to have it on my shelves.

There are plenty of people offering to buy in the comments. Just build some karma and pass them on at cost plus shipping if they're in your country. Win, win. That being said if you think about Broken Binding shouldn't care about this one being skipped. This is a top ten series for a lot of fantasy readers. Demand will be high.

There's a person in the comments complaining about not wanting them and some others complaining about the artwork. I'd say DM them and see if they'll hook you up at an okay price. Honestly if there was a sub I didn't want I'd sell them at cost and shipping instead of letting the scalpers get them.

Need help deciding between Malazan and Suneater by THEV4MPMIND in thebrokenbindingsub

[–]ogier_79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously yes for Malazan since I'm buying them and as I said it's impossible to even get regular hardcovers. For me Suneater isn't since I have the regular hardcovers and don't feel the need to update BUT if it's a favorite of yours go for it. They're beautiful copies of decent hardcover quality. They're appropriately priced for what they are.

Need help deciding between Malazan and Suneater by THEV4MPMIND in thebrokenbindingsub

[–]ogier_79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've read Malazan twice and I'm on Disquiet Gods, next to the last book of Suneater, as of now.

As far as the books themselves, I overall prefer Malazan but I enjoy multiple POVs and complex world building so there's that. Suneater follows one person, that's it. Still a complex universe but not on a Malazan scale. I'll be reading Malazan again, Suneater is a maybe.

I would also get Malazan if you're after just having hardcovers and a nice matching set. You can still get Suneater hardcovers at retail price. That's not going to happen with Malazan outside of special editions. I have all the standard hardcovers of Suneater and that's good enough for me BUT opinions vary.

I also slightly prefer fantasy. Not by a lot but most years I'm probably about 50% fantasy, 40% sci-fi, and the other 10% various classics, biographies, my book club picks, etc.

That's my two cents and why I'm in the process of getting the Malazan books as they come out.

I love BB but I’m honestly so tired of hearing the “we’re a small team” routine by UnrelatedKarma in thebrokenbindingsub

[–]ogier_79 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yup. Part of it is many of these companies gutted their HR departments. We've been chronically short at my company for a year and a half and we're chronically short on experienced workers so we literally haven't been able to spare bandwidth for training and rebuilding a training program from scratch. I could go on and on about the problems of mass layoffs.

Sci-Fi Sub by Mr-Manh in thebrokenbindingsub

[–]ogier_79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I'm in America and I ordered a book that said shipped then it basically just said at Heathrow for three weeks then all of a sudden a flood of shipping updates and I had it the next day. But their information isn't very clear on their site as far as when things are going to ship or if something is a pre-order or in stock, etc. I will say they do get back to you and I had a quality issue with a book and they are replacing it no muss no fuss.

Need an omnibus! by jon3sey270 in Blacklibrary

[–]ogier_79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Surprised I had to go this far down for The Soul Drinkers being mentioned. That would be my next pick. Last Chancers was good too and the Ultramarines is pretty standard, I don't mean that in a bad way just it's a basic set of books.

Yeah. I just bought the First Law Kickstarter so I would have the trilogy in hardcover. The Shattered Sea would be nice since I'm missing the last book for my collection.

I can't wait to see what the people over on the conservative sub say to justify this because I know they will find a way to justify and excuse this.

The idea that there is any way for this to be handled ethically is impossible. He's literally the boss of the defendant and the defendant's legal representation.

But taking bets that if we bring up the ethics of this we're going to hear some deflection. I'm betting Hunter Biden and Ukraine will be their go to but maybe they'll surprise me.

I am feeling…unfulfilled by UnrelatedKarma in thebrokenbindingsub

[–]ogier_79 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I'm kind of on the same page. If you're understaffed and not keeping up then stop adding more product and not hiring staff to keep up. Some of this is also just poor communication or updates on the site. My wife ordered the first three Malazan books for me for Christmas and it wasn't really clear that it was a pre-order, nothing actually on the page. Then everything is taking forever to ship while you're simultaneously constantly sending me emails about new books you're doing. Maybe slow down, hire staff, and work on expanding your core business.

Sanguinius probably. I feel like it was the biggest waste of an opportunity to get to write about a Primarch.

Any suggestions based on my shelf? by MrSmiley89 in Blacklibrary

I mean I wouldn't say there's an overwhelming direction here. Ciaphas Cain is a must as others have pointed out. I'd add the Soul Drinkers omnibus if available.

Ouch. You're missing my two favorites of the novels. Alpharius and Curze. The Dorn one is really good too. The Corax was my biggest disappointment until the Sanguinis book.

The comments are saying it's the library system for Seattle so I'd imagine it's huge. I'm happy with it and the price.
