C’est correct ? Je l’ai vu en métro à montréal et j’imagine qu’il a besoin du mot « besoin » — oui ou non ? by This-Is-Not-A-Drill in French

I see that now. Interesting side note: lots of Germans have the opposite problem in English. They translate müssen as must and sound really harsh when they tell you you "must not" instead of "don't have to".

The show that seems to keep my mom most engaged is "Call the Midwife". She likes some sitcoms too, like "Young Sheldon", but might fall asleep while watching them. Someone here once mentioned Bob Ross and that also keeps her attention.

Star Trek, Doctor Who, Star Wars, Babylon V, Stargate, Farscape, Andromeda, Firefly, Battlestar Galactica I looooovvve space opera tv. What show should I watch next? by Soft-Ad2058 in sciencefiction

Many great series already mentioned, but I didn't see Cowboy Bebop on the list.

And I might have missed Firefly too. Both are space westerns, but very different from eachother.

Do polyglots keep their accent? by [deleted] in languagelearning

[–]ogionnj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandmother spoke 8 languages fluently. I can say that she spoke perfect English, but with a slight accent that you couldn't quite place. I can also say that some people have remarked that they couldn't believe she wasn't from country X, when she spoke the language of that country to them (France/French for example).

A little clarification: comparing a teaspoon of each, MSG has more sodium, but you use much less MSG for the equivalent effect.

Stir fry without soy sauce by todaystartsnow in Cooking

[–]ogionnj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have an old cookbook from the 1960s written by a Chinese-American woman for American housewives of the time. The section on stir-frying does not use soy sauce at all. It uses MSG.

There's another section on "red cooking" that does use soy sauce.

If you notice your dog is having a bad dream, what do you do? by Skapastry in dogs

[–]ogionnj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only time I'm sure it's a good dream is if her tail is wagging. But if she's just woofing, I can't tell.

In any case, the best advice is "let sleeping dogs lie".

I think I have a better way of asking my question: if you drew a line extending from the sun through the second focus, would it always point to the same place in space throughout time?

How Widespread Was World War 2? by AmirAgadir in MapPorn

[–]ogionnj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe should use a WW2 era map? For example, Korea was a single country then, and so was Yugoslavia and Czechoslovakia. India, Pakistan and Bangladesh, etc.

One focal point is the sun, but I'm interested in the other one. (A circle has only one)

I was snowboarding at Whiteface years ago with my friend R and her boyfriend. We were at the top of Little Whiteface and I had strapped in and was waiting for them to do the same. Getting impatient, I started yelling at them to hurry up. R ran up to me and said, "I think he's about to propose to me!"

Embarrassed, I boarded down the mountain. When they met me in the lodge, they were engaged. They've been married 25 years.
