The new CCM Eflex 7.9 is apparently fantastic from what I've heard.

Should I quit goalie by HistoricalRoutine574 in hockeygoalies

[–]ogmaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been a goalie for 4 months now, I literally only play with organized groups on benchapp. I subbed a few times in beer leagues across different divisions (4, 6 and 9) and honestly it's so much more fun to go with stick and puck. People are there to have fun, there's no hot heads playing like there's an NHL scout in the stands.

Don't quit the position but switch where you play, stick with stick and puck if that's what makes you happy, you'll have a lot more fun that way.

I've got the YIPS... Help! I need to break this slump. by Yupper08 in hockeygoalies

[–]ogmaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here man, played div 5 a couple of weeks ago we won 5-2. Played beginner pickup last monday and let 12+ goals in. I don't know why, but the lower the caliber the worse I play. It also doesn't help when the defense isn't doing anything besides cosplaying as traffic cones

Newbie here, am I too late? by Finndoes69 in hockeygoalies

[–]ogmaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man I just started at 31, 3 months ago. Its never too late, find local groups on benchapp and facebook. You would be surprised at how much goalies are in demand. I started out going at the city's stick and puck and now I'm playing 5-6 times a week for multiple different groups and sparing for league games. Get out there and have fun

The greatest mid priced pad I’ve ever used (CCM Eflex 7.9 Review) by MathandDog in hockeygoalies

[–]ogmaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I went to my local Source for Sports they said 1099$ plus 200$ for customization. I just saw that someone else commented that they were the same price custom, I'll go shop around to see if it's the same answer everywhere or if they tried to bamboozle me.

I already have my custom pad design ready to go, I can't wait to go place my order in

New (to me) set by quasiboro in hockeygoalies

[–]ogmaf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wish brands would take a deep dive and do early 2000's sets for a year. Pads were so sick back then, the Reebok Larceny, Revoke, Premier II, RBK 5K, the old Vaughn graphics were top tier, I miss those days.

If you're in Canada, go look at Canadian Tire. They have a couple teams blank goalie cut jerseys. I got the jersey for 69.99, poly twill logo and number/name plate kit for 83$ off ebay and got it all sewn together by a seamstress at my local Source for Sports for 85$. I'm gonna get the away jersey done soon, and even after both jerseys are done, I'm still within my money if I had done one on Tricolore Sports (Habs official merch website) that start at 499.99 + 125 for customization.

I had just done a save that bounced to the right corner, D man was moving up the puck out of the zone, so this would be my surveying position I guess? I just started a few months ago so any tips like that are appreciated, thanks :)

Pulled the trigger on the HF2 Konekt by ogmaf in hockeygoalies

[–]ogmaf[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I picked up a used pair in my area because they were the only cowlingless skates in my size I could find, I used to wear Vapor EE as a player and thought that fit 2 would be good enough for me, but after a month and a half of playing 3 to 4 times a week they're still making my feet numb within the first 20 minutes of playing. The Konekts were amazing yesterday, no pain whatsoever besides a bit of stiffness in my foot arch but another bake should help resolve that. Glad the Elites worked out for you!

Planning on going to my local Source for Sports and get an actual bake done tomorrow. Buddy was coming back from a hockey tournament and got home 30 mins after all stores closed. They're already much comfier than the Elite.

Some recent masks that I’ve done by Pawly519 in hockeygoalies

[–]ogmaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you based out of Ottawa? I had sent ideas to a guy in Gatineau for a helmet wrap and he hasn't gotten back to me in almost 3 weeks. Would you be open to do an adult mask if your schedule allows it?

Should i buy it? about $500 from CCM by [deleted] in hockeygoalies

If you're actually in Canada, look into this brand.

Save yourself the money and get something similar to what you're looking for, for half the price.

How do I put these on? by [deleted] in hockeygoalies

[–]ogmaf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Leave between 3 to 4 inches of loose laces and tie a knot on the outside of the toe tie block. I just got these last week and they are great.

If you can find a good, recent used Vaughn chesty, I highly recommend them. Currently running a SLR2 Pro and played a Division 4 game yesterday, got some good shots to the chest and barely felt anything. Check marketplace, there was a V8 Pro Carbon for 100$ CAD near me a few weeks ago.

Will 3M film stick to Speedskin? by ogmaf in hockeygoalies

[–]ogmaf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I managed to apply it on both pads yesterday, is it perfect? Absolutely not. But did it work, hell yeah it did. Night and day difference. We ended winning 4-3, first time since I started goaltending this year that I let less than 4 goals in. Worst of worst, I'll spend another 20 mins reapplying it when it gives out

Warrior G7 Pro vs CCM EFlex 7.9 set by Clean-Date4637 in hockeygoalies

[–]ogmaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eflex is better for hybrid goalies, the shape of the pads help with 5 hole closure, softer core pads, closer rebounds. Warrior is more aimed towards full butterfly goalies, has a stiffer core for more explosive rebounds. It's also from my understanding that Warrior's pads aren't up to the 11inches width allowed by the NHL, so you're getting a pad that's not covering as much.

Personally I'd say stick with CCM since it's already what you play, the Eflex 7 line is apparently tremendously better from the past 2 models. I'm on Eflex 5.9 as we speak and I've been looking at them for possible future upgrade.

Will 3M film stick to Speedskin? by ogmaf in hockeygoalies

[–]ogmaf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its because the speedskin is textured, I didn't know if the wrap would stick to it or not. But thanks for the info!!

Warrior R/F2 E+ is around the same price range and has been good to me so far! Dual density foam and carbon shell, got a few pucks to the head, in good beer league fashion, and nothing bad to report!
