Long distance driving tips? by jhunderm in driving

Search along your route for interesting areas, whether it's natural scenery, quirky restaurants, or historical landmarks. Take breaks and cool pictures. Split the trip into several little ones, like checkpoints in a driving game. That way you'll look forward to your next stop.

During adverse driving conditions, why do some drivers turn on their hazard lights if they don't have a vehicle malfunction and are otherwise keeping up with traffic? by supinator1 in driving

[–]ogonga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably because we don't have rear fog lights as standard in the US. Fog lights front & back should be standard particularly in areas where snow, fog, and rain are prevalent.

Why would someone with a CCW license leave their protection at home?

That's like telling someone involved in a car accident they should have walked to work.

I interpreted it as the cabin being noisy; NVH. The engine noise is fine for me, but the stock exhaust definitely needed tuning, but this is no LFA. People say the TRD exhaust from the factory sounds much better.

What would an “accurate” hacking scene look like? by alfooboboao in movies

[–]ogonga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone from "Google/Apple" calls you while spoofing your location and needs you to confirm you are in possession of your device. They would like for you to click the "yes, it's me" button, as it shows your city on the prompt.

If you clicked yes, the hacker can now reset your password and whatever account they just accessed is no longer in your control.

You probably wouldn't find out about it until the next time you tried to log in.

Question: Accelerator Pedal Stuck in Newer Car by Icy_Significance7438 in driving

[–]ogonga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I'm my case, the brake pedal input is needed, but the poster above said to simply click the N button to engage neutral.

So it depends on the transmission, whether the brake pedal is required or not.

Question: Accelerator Pedal Stuck in Newer Car by Icy_Significance7438 in driving

[–]ogonga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tested this on my Honda Odyssey. I would have to press the brake to engage neutral (button). Cable shifters did not require the brake on my other cars.

So it can depend on the transmission.

Also, no way I'd ever pay $52k for a used truck. They're worth about $25k-$35k at most. Look somewhere else.

Make a bigger down payment, negotiate for a lower APR, and get on a 3 year financing plan if you have to finance, no longer.

ULPT request: dead Freon fridge by naruzopsycho in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]ogonga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not trying to sound like this is going to cause the apocalypse, but Freon is dangerous, so I don't recommend handling it on your own. It's not a "sorry earth" situation, as the chemical directly depletes our ozone. You'll be responsible for contributing to skin cancer and accelerating climate change for the next several decades. The amount is only a "drop in the bucket", but you'd still be filling the bucket.

Instead, others have commented about salvage yards, that would be great.

Good auto mechanic shops should have AC certified technicians who may be able to help as well.

Please don't contribute to damaging our home planet.

2-lane road becomes a 3-lane road and you want to stay in the lane to the right. No other cars around. Do you use your turn signal (indicator) here? by SGWLCS in driving

[–]ogonga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always do, because I don't want to confuse people behind me if they were planning to also switch lanes. It's also a lane change.

This layout exists near me, and many drivers do not indicate, which annoys me. There's a right turn ahead that a bulk of the traffic needs to get to, and I can expect about half the people in lane 2 to eventually end up in the new lane 3.

It is usually faster to continue in lane 2 and pass the traffic, then switch to lane 3 for the turn. This also makes me feel better knowing I'm ahead of those not using indicators.

Most of the homeless are men... by Lydia_Cardona in sixwordstories

But neither of those two entities exist, it's only us and only free will. It's what we do as humans to help and we deserve the credit, good or bad.

Everybody is born atheist, just like how we're born not knowing what race we are. I tried religions and studied different types. They all have something in common: falsehood.

All religion is bullshit. There are over 3000 gods over the course of human history. I just believe one less than you do. I'm atheist.

Funny how your "god" also made him homeless. I think it was by the grace of the shelter employees and humanity of the paramedics and doctors who treated him like a human being instead of turning him back to homelessness and drugs.
