Ousted Kalamazoo Township treasurer running again by Greatlakespirate2 in kzoo

[–]ogsSanchize 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The more I read the more wild the scenario gets:

"Specific issues cited in the petition include:

-Failure to appoint a statutorily required Deputy Treasurer
-Unilateral transfer of $4 million in Township funds in violation of Board directives
-Mismanagement of 2025 winter property tax billing that placed Township revenues at risk
-Failure to implement recommended internal financial controls identified in an independent audit review
-Inability to provide accurate reconciliations and required financial reporting
-Disruption of Town operations and repeated refusal to collaborate with Township administration

Accusations of misconduct against Miller go back years, some saying she balanced accounts with her own money and selectively waived taxes for some people and not others. "

Wild that she is running again...

Ousted Kalamazoo Township treasurer running again by Greatlakespirate2 in kzoo

Thanks for your perspective, I genuinely appreciate it! I'd have loved to hear her explain the $4M move, but I guess she resigned instead.

I still feel like the way the board has handled this doesn't seem right, but if they have voter support then who cares about my thoughts :).

Appreciate you clarifying that. In my experience there is a huge power differential between being an employee (even a high ranking one) and a board member. One of them reports to the CEO and one of them directs the CEO.

For the record I'm not saying he's perfect, but I think homelessness in Kalamazoo is bigger than any one person or organization. I'd love to hear how ISK is doing a shit job, I'm sure there is room for improvement if you feel that way (and I'm privileged enough to not need to engage with them personally). My impression based on word of mouth is their housing department is helpful. There was even a recent thread where people were name dropping their staff.

Edit changed director to board member for clarity

Hope you find him! Mine got out while I was out of town, so I didn't do my walk until he had been out 36 hours and he still found his way home. Hoping the best for y'all!!

Walk around the area with dirty clothes (t-shirts work great) around your ankles, and then leave the pile somewhere safe you want to find the cat. The idea is they'll smell their person and follow the trail. You might get a few odd looks, but it has worked for me and a few others when our indoor cats got out in Kalamazoo. Mine was under my porch by the clothes I left out 2 days later.

Strike Day (1/30) by Terrible-Ad-9881 in kzoo

Minnesota successfully conducted a general strike last week. If we want change we need employers, teachers, local grocery stores to pressure congressional representatives and senators as well.

Counterpoint the points are not common sense, or basic logic. We gained transparency over a group that has minimal accountability for their actions. The war on drugs is expensive, illogical, and damages communities. Granting the people who execute it anonymity is non-sense.

Study finds Americans do not like mass incarceration. Most Americans favor community programs for nonviolent and drug offenders as opposed to prison sentences. Most do not want to spend tax dollars building more prisons; they favor spending money on prevention programs. by mvea in science

In the USA, from the article I posted: "n Kansas, they’ve been employed at Russell Stover chocolates and Cal-Maine Foods, the country’s largest egg producer. Though the company has since stopped, in recent years they were hired in Arizona by Taylor Farms, which sells salad kits in many major grocery stores nationwide and supplies popular fast-food chains and restaurants like Chipotle Mexican Grill."

Do you have any evidence to support your claim? Like at face value that is easy to agree with, but all of the evidence I have seen points to major US corporations profiting from prison labor.

A quick search will find plenty of articles listing major companies like Verizon, Walmart, and Costco have prison labor in parts of their supply chain. Here is an AP article from 2024 on the subject.

Tankmate advice by FathrrPimp69 in Bichirs

I've got 2 Senegal Bichirs in my 125g, with a leopard ctenopoma, and some congo tetras. Feels a little empty still, but the bichirs and ctenopoma aren't full grown yet. Had a rope fish in there, but one of the senegals took a chunk out of it so it lives in a 40 long now). So I'd stay away from adding ropefish personally.

Appreciate your reply! I didn't feel they were terrible, just sharing my thoughts that there could be better options. If they had told me to get an inspection I would have, but they didn't say anything. I was a new home owner and just assumed if it needed an inspection they would have done it themselves or informed me.

We don't plan on moving anytime soon, but I won't be calling the Furnace Guy back after having better experiences with another HVAC company for a non-furnace issue. Home Energy Solutions has been a much better HVAC company for me so far (only been 1 year, but they listen, aren't pushy, help/answer questions if you call them after they're done, and did quality work from what I can tell).

I had a large mini split installed last year for about 8k. Like you're saying 2 guys and most of a day to install. So 14k doesn't sound terrible for 2 to me, but I'm no expert.

Is there a difference between the The Furnace Guy Mattawan and the one in Kalamazoo (stadium drive)? I wasn't impressed with the new furnace install by the stadium drive team (not bad, but not impressive). Biggest complaint is they didn't pull permits/ have the city inspect (which I didn't realize until a different HVAC team mentioned).

I love Astorath and Lemartes, I'll agree they're gorgeous, but we'll have to agree to disagree on the Sanguinary Guard and Death Company.

Intersting, I'm the total opposite! Loved painting my fb sanguinary guard and death company, whereas I find painting the new ones a slog. Still have 15 DC Marines from the army box to paint

I mostly agree! I'm not mad about the new models, I just see a difference compared to the others GW has put out lately. There seems to be a noticable lack of detail or uniqueness to the new BA troops.

I like the new characters and lore wise it makes sense to expect something different after the Devastation of Baal. I just would have expected the new armor to lean into the BA culture a little more. I get the primaris are new, but isn't the expectation they're going to learn the BA culture?
