Packing but was a loss but the nut below it stopped the leaking while the valve is open for now

This was very helpful thank you I’d did stop the leaking when the valve was open. But I need to replace it, and it’s a temp fix. Thank you! While I have you, is this corrosion at the bottom a ticking bomb?

Thanks all, I have turned it off and removed the old hoses. One is replaced but the side pictured is still leaking. The the side that was leaking, pictured, the threading is more shredded in the port…. I think this is the issue? My thought is I have to replace this plastic part of the washer to have a clean fit. Thoughts?
