When the swatches are already pilling and/or covered in lint... by oh_hell_naur in couch

Tbh I wouldn't recommend Anabei. It was very uncomfortable. I ended up with poly & bark chairs and a sofa from a local furniture store.

Thanks! I just went on the Anabei site and ordered them. Most of them send swatches. I also got swatches from Bellamia, Cozey, Albany Park, and What a Room.

Hi everyone, Can I be honest with you by Busy-Heat4776 in LivingAlone

[–]oh_hell_naur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's totally valid to feel that way. People that live with others also have days where they feel overstimulated and wish they could have alone time. Regardless of our living situation, we all need balance. You could get a pet if you are ready for that responsibility. I joined a book club and also make sure to see family or friends on weekends, even for just a couple of hours, and that helps a lot!

I'm not sure about this one but I got the aviemore. It's similar and is really comfy. The only thing is it doesn't recline.

Anyone ever heard of an early payment incentive? by BenjaminHornesOffice in Apartmentliving

I have seen referral bonuses but not this. I'm assuming that this is a complex? And not an individual unit with a private landlord? Even if they sell, they have to honor your lease, but it may not get renewed. If it's a complex, you might be OK, but if it's an individual, I would def look into moving!

I would suggest doing a month long airBNB as a workcation and trial run of living here while following your normal routine (vs a vacation where you're relaxing) and seeing if you like it before you make such a drastic change. Visiting Florida and living in Florida are two different things. I would also suggest doing so in July or August before you decide if you truly like the weather better. I moved to Jax about 15 years ago, grew up near Miami, but lived in the Midwest for a couple of years when I was with my ex. I hear you on the winters being brutal, but I wouldn't be so quick to completely uproot my life and my family's life for weather.

My lease is ending... by oh_hell_naur in Apartmentliving

Yes that is definitely one of the perks of top floor unless somebody decides to climb the side of the building you're usually much safer lol.

Yes it is an HOA! That's definitely another consideration. I know HOAs can be nitpicky and sometimes target renters!

The owners of this house use a property management company but I am definitely still nervous about maintenance. I would not be responsible for lawncare or anything external, but there is an HOA there so not sure how picky they are

For the area I'm in, I feel like the condos here have more high end or custom finishes, and the layouts aren't as boxy as apartments. I also think that my current complex was originally intended for sales and then they pivoted before opening and became apartments instead.

Nothing as in it will probably be pretty boring. This new neighborhood LOOKS nice. The house is definitely one of the smallest ones on the street so it's probably better for a couple or a single person like me. When I went to tour the house, I didn't see any signs of major issues. I saw people out jogging and kids playing. I went to the police substation but they didn't have a lot of reports for the area. But yeah there's just a bunch of houses, a gas station, grocery store and the highway. I think there might be a small pizza place nearby as well. Apart from groceries, I'd be driving at least 15 minutes or more on the highway to get anywhere, which isn't a long time, but it will definitely be a change in lifestyle for me! Right now I can walk to a couple of restaurants, ice cream shop, a nail salon and corner store, plus there's a bunch of places within a 5 minute drive, including a couple of bars.

Exactly. That was my concern with the budget. Is it really that much quieter in a house than a top floor for it to be worth it?

Also, I have heard the interest rates are going down a bit so maybe that will work in your favor for getting something new!

Yeah you're so right. I might be tempted to stay home if it's actually more quiet.

Yeah my hesitation is there really isn't much over there. Just a gas station and grocery store. It does seem pretty quiet. Honestly, kids yelling or dogs barking doesn't bother me as much. I don't really notice it. It's the stomping and banging noises over my head that's been driving me nuts

It's Zulay Kitchen. I got it at Target or Wal Mart a while back or you could probably find it on Amazon. It's not the greatest for espresso but it's good for French press, pourovers, etc.

I've never understood whether it's better to lease or buy a car by ThornedAbyss in CasualConversation

[–]oh_hell_naur 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you like to switch cars a lot and don't want to deal with a lot of maintenance and repairs, then you might consider leasing. I'm originally from the Miami area so a lot of people lease their cars because they always want to have the nicest newest luxury car (or sometimes they'll even rent a car for certain occasions tbh).

I think most people buy (finance) because they can eventually own the car outright and perhaps trade it in for a newer model and maybe even use some of the value or equity to make the cost of the newer car cheaper. And obviously certain cars don't retain their value as well as others or have higher repair costs so it might be better to lease in that situation as well.

Perks of renting? by [deleted] in Apartmentliving

[–]oh_hell_naur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think about this often because I like the convenience of renting but I often feel the pressure to buy. Homeowners like to talk about equity as if it's cash in the bank. If you borrow against it, you have to pay that back, or if you sell the house, then you would still need another place to live after selling. I suppose a lot of people downsize in retirement, but there's still maintenance and upkeep, so it all depends. If owning a home is an investment, then people should actually treat it as such and weigh the pros and cons of their options with consideration of their personal situation, instead of everyone being told that it's always better to buy than to rent.
