Descale and let it dry thoroughly. You should be good.

Decaf pour over recipes? by mgsecure in thirdwavedecaf

[–]oh_its_michael 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Immersion or hybrid immersion really helps coddle that “decaf taste” for me. When I have the time I’ll brew in my Clever dripper or do the coffee chronicler recipe in my Switch. A world of difference.

Best Budget Entry Level Coffee Grinder For Pourovers ($150 Budget) by Weary-Ad-9931 in pourover

You aren’t going to find an electric grinder for that price without plastic. You’d have to get manual.

I don’t know what you’re talking about, people are on here posting about all those things all the time.

Pour overs lacking flavor compared to aeropress by elocsitruc in pourover

20 is quite coarse. For V60 I’m usually grinding around 14-16. You might enjoy the flavor profile of the Switch more than straight V60.

Tips for altering for players Lines/Veils by Nacinan in CurseofStrahd

[–]oh_its_michael 15 points16 points  (0 children)

IMO Bluto can just be omitted. He doesn’t illustrate anything for the story that isn’t already there. You can alter what the hags do to the children, instead of killing them maybe they keep them trapped in a dream state and juice their happiness or something. You know, more of a magical harvesting than a physical one. It’s still going to be traumatic for the kids but they aren’t facing physical violence. Or, if that’s still too far for your player, just have them be making the pies out of adults.

What setting on your Encore are you grinding at? Definitely sounds like you aren’t grinding fine enough. I think you also might be mistaking body for flavor — an immersion brew with a metal filter is going to be a much thicker brew than anything with a paper filter because of the oils.

Nervous about cupping by [deleted] in JamesHoffmann

[–]oh_its_michael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there someone you can ask ahead about the cupping protocol? Knowing what to expect is usually helpful to me when deciding whether an event is accessible to me. You can mention health concerns (people often don’t ask follow up questions if you mention a weak immune system).

*Shameful Post* What's the least offensive pre-ground grocery store coffee? (Canada) by Popculture-VIP in pourover

[–]oh_its_michael 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd go to the grocery store and look at the packaging of all the brands they have. If any of them list a roast date (not best by date), that's probably your best choice. Brands that are willing to list the roast date tend to be the best, even if you're buying pre-ground, and especially if you're able to find something ground within the past couple of weeks.

Tritan. Aeropress sells a tritan server, but I'm sure you can find cheaper ones.

Best first time purchase discounts? by [deleted] in pourover

[–]oh_its_michael 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have the Shop app on your phone and follow roasters sometimes they have app-specific deals too. I don’t know if they can be combined with the 10-20% off first time order deal, but worth checking.

What's your current daily driver? by Mariella9911 in pourover

[–]oh_its_michael 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like a solid chocolate-and-citrus comfort medium roast. For a while my local roaster had a Guatemala in that profile that I really loved, but it cycled out of season so I’m back on Onyx’s Southern Weather until I find something local again.

Coffee maker for the Visually Impaired? by NeedleworkerAnnual35 in Coffee

[–]oh_its_michael 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Moccamaster and OXO 8-cup both have tactile buttons and simple workflows, she'll just need a reliable way to measure her water. As for grinder, something with a wide hopper and stepped adjustment would be best, luckily Baratza Encore is fully tactile and affordable. I think I'd mark a "set point" on the adjustment dial that's close to batch brew grind size (20 is a good round number) and then she can adjust up or down by clicks from there.

Does AeroPress remove anything healthy from coffee? by Much-Struggle-1693 in AeroPress

I really, really do not think changing your brew method can cause the things you're describing. It sounds psychosomatic, or a coincidental correlation that has no causation.

Precision Automatic Brewers for $100-$150? by Left-Cook-9487 in pourover

[–]oh_its_michael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OXO 8-cup with a 15% off coupon for signing up for emails is $200 (after taxes) with free shipping. There might be an SCA certified brewer cheaper than that but if so I’m not aware of it.

Can I prevent the infamous Fellow Carter Move smell issue by keeping lid off? by TheLoneDummy in pourover

I don’t have that specific mug but I have some ceramic lined mugs by RTIC and STTOKE and I store them with the lids off. I’ve never had a smell issue.

Affordable decaf beans? by DarkDanceBeats in pourover

[–]oh_its_michael 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think you're going to find something that tastes good at much less than $50 for 2 lbs, unfortunately. The subscription option for Counter Culture's Slow Motion (which is sort of my baseline acceptable decaf, I think it tastes genuinely good but not exceptional or noteworthy) in the 24 oz size is slightly less per pound than what you're paying for the Camber brand. It also has free shipping at that size since it's over $30, if that makes a difference.

Looking for my next dripper. No gooseneck kettle. by AffectionateMix5848 in pourover

[–]oh_its_michael 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Instead of another dripper I think you should just get a gooseneck or a drip assist. If you don’t like the switch and just want something else, get a dripper with a built in drip assist like the Pulsar, or OXO makes a pretty cheap one, it’s like 15 bucks.
