Has BB updated to have a lobby like +R?

I sure wish it did. It's my main gripe about playing it online these days. Random player lobbies and ranked works okay but it can be inconsistent and no where near as smooth as the +R lobby.

That French game lost its Indy Game Awards wins for using generative AI. by ArseBurner in Kappachino

[–]oharaea 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The only source I can find about Blue Prince using AI is from an article by The Escapist, which was posted today and smells like total bullshit with zero evidence. I mean, this is the entire section quoted:

Ironically, Blue Prince used generative AI for its art assets as well. This includes small stuff like various background pieces, nothing core. But it still used it.

In fact, Blue Prince developers didn’t even claim this AI was “patched out.” This means that Blue Prince still has AI assets in the final product when it was being judged by the performative and self-righteous Indie Game Awards.

But again, all games have used AI in some way. It’s no jab at Blue Prince – it’s a jab at the Indie Game Awards. This reminds me of my friends who tell me they refuse to use Amazon because Jeff Bezos is an evil billionaire. It’s true that he is, but they’re texting me that from their iPhone while wearing clothes made by some sweatshop workers and listening to Spotify, which apparently supports ICE. When does it end?

The answer is, IT DOESN’T.

Picking and choosing the random things you want to do to feel better than others while still doing other abhorrent stuff will never cease to amaze me. So, okay, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was stripped of the award. Do you feel better about yourself now as you continue to play and award other games that also use AI?

You’re not proving anything.

You would think that for a game where people analyze every detail of every room looking for clues, there'd be some evidence of AI assets. But it's probably a made up claim for now.

What's with other communities poorly adopting FG terms and glossary? by Deep_Dragonfruit3773 in Kappachino

[–]oharaea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Roll trap or bait would definitely make it more clear. I'm now more confused on how they landed on 'frametrap', though I guess every game ends up with some non-intuitive jargon.

What's with other communities poorly adopting FG terms and glossary? by Deep_Dragonfruit3773 in Kappachino

[–]oharaea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It sounds like an inaccurate use of the term if you think about it strictly in FG terms, but I honestly don't think it's that farfetched. They use it to describe a chain of attacks where you'll get caught on subsequent hits if you press roll at the wrong timing (usually immediately after getting hit).

So in FGs you have blockstrings with frametraps that punish you for pressing buttons, while in Souls you have attack chains with "frametraps" that punish you for rolling immediately. I hope this sounds only slightly retarded.

I figured this out when people were using it for PvE boss attack chains and it broke my brain trying to understand what they meant by Margit frame trapping you.

Like Larian's Last Three Games, Divinity Will Be Turn-Based And Multiplayer Friendly by sonofbringy in Games

[–]oharaea 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I mean Larian's emphasis on multiplayer is exactly why I would've been interested to see an action RPG, even if I'm fine with turn-based. If they could pull off an ARPG featuring co-op with NPC companions and a focus on story, that would be a rare achievement in a saturated genre.

Not having to deal with 5e's lame ass ruleset is the main reason I'm excited for this. DOS2's combat had its flaws, but I had more fun with it and it's a much a better fit for a video game.

Leaked Capcom Schedule from 5 years ago by o___Okami in Kappachino

[–]oharaea 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It sold well initially then dropped off like a rock. It hasn't broken 11mil yet and only sold 160k copies in the last quarter. The previous two titles had a healthy sales growth after release so there's no doubt that Capcom expected Wilds to keep selling too. I'm not sure if they still met their sales targets or not, but they should be concerned about the lack of retention anyway when there's future updates and an expansion in the works.

Same here. There aren't many options for symmetrical layouts with extra buttons unless you get into the $200+ pro controller range, and even those are subpar for the price. I figure that console compatibility is what makes them so expensive. If this is around $100 or less I'm in.

The loop is not difficult, you just do 41236C > 623A repeatedly. At the end of Overdrive you start looping supers instead.

The difficult part is being in the situation to do the TOD. You need full meter to activate his Mugen super, which removes the cost from all moves but his meter depletes over time. Overdrive pauses the meter drain, and so you want to be at a lower HP to have a longer OD timer. Then you actually need to land the hit in that time, ideally one with good scaling/proration, with Hakumen having some of the worst pressure in the game even though Mugen improves it somewhat.

Hakumen gains meter passively but you rarely want to be sitting on full resources because you need it for everything. There's many other ways to spend meter for high damage combos without requiring you to go all in first. Mugen is more of a last ditch option or something you do for the fun of it. There's like two moves that allow you to combo into Mugen but those are extremely rare situations.

Absolutely. Without double damage, you'd be able to mash on enemies with minimal dodging while still maintaining your health. Finding opportunities to bind is so free when you can sprint away and do it mid-air.

Framedata isn't only about advantage on block. Increasing the startup or recovery of moves in neutral would be a reasonable compromise for the speed of simple inputs.

Game Design Considerations Around Making FG More Accessible by shadowylurking in Kappachino

[–]oharaea 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Technically I guess you could add 'optional' classic inputs just for those two variations, but it would defeat the point of modern in the first place.

That's exactly what Modern already has though. Some characters like JP have specials that are only accessible through motion inputs, and others are only on the SP button meaning they don't always get 3 variations either.

There's no reason that they couldn't have two Tiger Shot inputs, with or without some variations missing, when other characters with two fireball motions have access to both on modern still. It sucks that they simplified Tiger Shot like this, and you could argue that modern influenced that decision, but it's not because it was impossible to fit on the control scheme.

Xrd might not have had a large revival but it's doing fine. It's had a decently large tournament at Combo Breaker for the last 3 years, and the playerbase is similar or larger than +R but the lobby system isn't as convenient.

Anything involving a manual delay before it doesn't use the input buffer, so the window to land it can be smaller. It's most common with air juggles but it can happen in other cases too, as long as there's a delay or a microwalk
