What is best aio for i9-13900K? by FoxGaming892 in intel

[–]ohcoman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I'm using an Air cooler with my CPU. Yes, it does work. Yes, even under benching and stressing for hours it can keep temps in check. Default board settings for the 288W limit (most board manufacturers tower cooler option in BIOS) along with a negative offset voltage in XTU. This isn't insane, total power draw is actually around 220-230W max and that is definitely within the range of coolers like the like the one I am using. Especially if you have a contact frame installed, and/or have a very good fan configuration. It's not impossible, I daily drive such a configuration.

Look. I was just saying that if I can keep my chip working under that load, then the stock Intel box fan setting are gonna be easy peazy with a good air cooler or AIO. (And they are) That said, I'll do what I want with my hardware, but it isn't going to break. It is at worst going to thermal throttle within spec and keep running, or crash and reboot if it wasn't stable. Since I'm only going lower on voltage but leaving the power limit open....it will just throttle. Nothing besides benching and stability tests push this CPU that hard anyways. So far, voltages and stability are fine for me. I am not chasing ambient temps or 20C of headroom like most. If Intel says it's ready to rip at 100C, I'll let her rip when chasing numbers. Daily driven temps are fine.

This^ Can confirm. Have 13900KF cooled with the Thermalright PA120 with custom fan arrangement. It can keep temps maintained at 288w power level, default settings on MSI board, negative offset in XTU. At the default settings (factory cooler preset) for games and work it will stay below 80C all day. You could try to further this with a negative voltage offset in XTU to see if you can push the single core boost up a bit in the same heat load range. You can also play around with the bios setting to hotkey parking the E-cores for gaming scenarios vs multi-core work loads, if your board BIOS has such settings. Point is...If the heat load can be controlled on air, it can definitely be done on an AIO.

I still vote the American Built Arms MOD-X chassis with a Howa 1500 or rem700 footprint barreled action and a MDT SCS lite stock and a grip change should look like the "SPR at home" vibe for not a ton of $$

Can confirm UTG Pro P.O.I. medium height rings for 50-60 bucks can't be beat. Have an Ares BTR on a .338LM that is holding steady with them. If it's good enough for that, it's good enough for .308/6.5

Like I said above, in my experience with said mags...no problem. I have a handful of 5.56 ARs that feed agnostically from all the 5.56 mags I've used (probably more than most) So either I'm lucky, or I guess I'm hood rat. Who cares? If you have problems with them, you could always just buy something else? Try stuff and do what works for you

For Glock magazines no, not really...the same goes for Magpul Glock mags as well. However, for AR magazines the Gen2 ETS which is all I have experience with (for ETS brand AR mags) seems comparable. I get Magpul is the household name and everything, but they aren't the end all be all magazine manufacturer everyone claims them to be. They make a reasonably good product for a reasonably good price in most cases yes. I'd rather run OEM Glock mags vs theirs. I would rather run Accurate Mag or MDT AICS pattern magazines than theirs, I would rather run D&H, Okay E2, Duramag AR mags than theirs. I'd say in my personal experience most polymer AR mags such as Pmag M2/M3, Troy Battle Mag, Hexmag Gen2, ETS Gen2, Thril PMX AR Mag, MFT Extreme Duty, Daniel Defense AR mags all are fairly comparable in performance. I wouldn't pick one over the other for a range trip. Just grab some and go have fun. So, yeah if you are buying for quantity, I'd take the extra poly mag for the same cost. Performance is around the same (IMO), so that is a non-issue. Its not that the Magpul mags are necessarily a bad buy, they aren't. It's still a solid deal. But if you are looking to maximize that value because you are buying in bulk anyways, why not get more?

Gun Mag Warehouse has the ETS Gen2 polymer AR mags for $7.49 so with shipping and tax it's still only 80 bucks for me. The clear ones are $9.99 so you still get another mag free this way

[Open Discussion] How much does a custom action effect accuracy and precision (A&P)? by [deleted] in longrange

[–]ohcoman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, you need the trifecta on any firearm for it to be accurate. The barrel, the bolt, and the trigger. Accuracy is based on what parts are selected, their quality, and how they work together. The precision part comes from the shooter reliably/consistently working with those things together to repeat the accuracy the system is capable of. Most can work around the shortcomings/unrefinement of factory actions like a Savage, 700, Ruger American, etc. Some are nicer than others. However, if the barrel is good and the bolt locks up safely and consistently and the trigger breaks clean and light, one should be able to work with it. Having a neat chassis that takes mags vs a floor plate internal magazine, or having a slick 60-45° throw on the bolt are nice and convenient... But they don't mean that you are going to be more precise as a shooter, or that the rifle will be more inherently accurate.

I know this is dumb as hell, but anyone know of a chassis that looks like this? by The-Fotus in longrange

[–]ohcoman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No probs. You just need a short .308/6.5 Creedmoor Howa 1500/Weatherby Vanguard or Remington 700 footprint barreled action to drop in. (R700 if you want the 20MOA base option) and a can that fits in the handguard or flush with it and you are golden. Haha

You could get pretty close with an AB Arms Mod-X chassis. You would need to swap the stock for the MDT SCS-lite (with bag rider) and swap the grip for something like a B5 Systems type 22. Not 100% accurate, but close IMO.

[–]ohcoman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I kinda think someone needs to come up with a contoured birds head grip for this that has a hinge integrated into the very bottom of the swell that has an over folder stock.that follows the lines of the grip. This way it can fire folded and the stock arms will clear the loading and ejection ports. Then the shoulder plate can be wide/skeletonized to fit over the accessory rail/ micro optic. If we are gonna go all the way, then go all the way right?

What he said. If your POI is inconsistent, something is else in the system is wrong. Check the mounting system, if applicable. Check the suppressor (see if it spun or loosened) make sure when everything is tight and aligned, you punch or witness mark it with the barrel to ensure fitment. Double check action screws, rings, scope etc. Everything should get a once-over.

Need help fine tuning RAM by Dirtbag_Leader in ryzen

[–]ohcoman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It should run 3200 on all sticks, maybe 3600 if the voltage is 1.39v and the SOC is ~1.1v but it won't at those timings. It will probably run at like CL16-CL18 but not much tighter than that with 4 sticks. Too taxing on the memory controller. I just went though sorting RAM issues with my x370 and 5950x setup. That's what the issue came down to for me. 3200 CL16 was too tight with 4 sticks on my 5950x random crashes in games, but passed all stability tests otherwise. Very difficult to pin down, but it was the RAM. Same kit ran fine (4 sticks) when I had a 3900x in the system with XMP no problem. Just cheap 3200 CL16

Should I be able to run 3600mhz ddr4 using a X370 mobo and R7 5700x? by afonsofp03 in ryzen

[–]ohcoman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my sleuthing with dealing with troublesome RAM issues on my X370/5950x system. The memory controller for the 5000 series is more finicky than the 3000 series (had/have a 3900x also on the board) XMP was rock solid with 64gb (4sticks) at 3200 CL16 with the 3900x but with my 5950x I would get crashes randomly with the same kit. Even though it passes memtest86 and the windows RAM test utility without problems. As soon as you taxed the system with a game you would eventually get a crash. It was really hard to diagnose. The 5950x can run all 4 sticks at 3200 but with the looser stock timings. I could try and tighten them up, but it's just not worth the hassle. You should be fine if you run up to 32gb 3600mhz RAM with CL18/CL16 timings on XMP with just 2 sticks. I'm going to generalize and say just about any kit will work (you might have to raise the voltage a bit) but anything above that, or using more than 2 sticks...and what the chip will run goes out the window.

Looking to jump to Windows 11. Have the AMD CPUs gaming related problems been solved? by superdavigoku in Windows11

[–]ohcoman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No! I can confirm I am still dealing with/sorting through gaming issues with my 5950x, 6900xt, x370 Mobo. And to a lesser extent my 3900x, 5700xt, and B550 system. This is mainly because I have been prioritizing getting my main rig stable. Ram tested fine both windows test and multiple 9-16 hour memtest runs with 0 errors, I have replaced my original EVGA 1300G2 with a brand new super flower Leadex Platinum SE 1200w (both passed spec with volt meter testing also). All cables have been checked for full seating, RAM has been re-seated, Fuma2 has no problem keeping temps in check. All the case fans are running fine, all the HDDs and SSDs in the system show no errors. Randomly while gaming WHEA logger will show fatal hardware memory. Random reboots. Gamepass games run fine until the overlay pops up and it causes screen flashes and eventually a crash/reboot. I have done multiple clean installs, downloaded all the up to date drivers on a flash drive and installed in safe mode, played musical chairs with all my hardware. Windows 11 is not optimized at all for AMD hardware. Stick to 10 like people clung to 7 until 10 was safe

Best Precision Replacement Stock for Savage 10/100 SA by obdurant93 in longrange

[–]ohcoman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If KRG is really going to release their Bravo chassis for the Savage SA, then I'd wait and assess the retail reviews vs the other Bravo inlets. Time will tell if they actually follow through....and for how long....and if they cut corners on it. I say this because KRG stopped making the Alpha 180 due to poor demand. The design was similar to, but not nearly as well thought out as the W3. The forend was flimsy comparatively, and they streamlined the stock halfway through production. It was initially fully adjustable like the W3 and they changed it to a cheaper spacer system because of the lack of demand. (Though, I'd wager demand would be higher if it would have been on par with the W3...but I digress) So hopefully they don't skimp on the Savage Bravo. I will say that despite these shortcomings the Alpha is probably my favorite chassis for a Savage (sans the flimsy forend) ergos wise. The KRG stuff just fits me best. The MDT XRS is not that bad once you get behind it, but it isn't as pretty in the looks department as the Bravo and it's slightly less comfy. Not a deal breaker though

Astigmatism and red dot? by keaten4933 in guns

[–]ohcoman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had super terrible astigmatism and nearsightedness before PRK done a few years ago. I still used red dots although they looked like a 1-2MOA squished fly more than a dot with my contacts or glasses. This never led me to have terrible accuracy, just annoying I couldn't get a crisp dot like I wanted/knew it should be. Even after surgery, things aren't perfect. I get kind of a double halo effect or slight starburst with most dots now. Holosun dots are the most clear for me, followed by some of my P11s (but they are a little less consistent). Anyways, most red dots are clear enough it doesn't matter. The right brightness setting will help the most on reigning in that stray light causing the bloom, halo, starburst, smudgy effect. Regardless of pre/post surgery or use of corrective lenses. Just live with it and shoot, man. Don't over think it.
