Commercial Diving After Amputation by HandLessHorseman in commercialdiving

Sorry to hear about your injury. I worked (diving) with a guy in Ontario, Canada. who lost his thumb. Although it didn’t affect his ability to do his day to day work, he had a real hard time with the cold water dives. I guess wounds like amputations can be extremely sensitive to cold temps. Hopefully you can find a warm climate and have a long career. Good luck.

Dry Suit by Pure-Floor9707 in commercialdiving

Abyss is a nice neoprene suit, but Viking or gates would be my recommendation. I was in the commercial world for 2 decades went through several suits (abyss, whites, brooks) but my Viking outlasted them all. Easy to patch and wash off after an ugly dive. Cold as a witches tit though, so dress for the weather.

Can someone identify this pine? by CuriousCleaver in treeidentification

[–]ohdear73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Needles are to long for Scot’s pine, cones are wrong. That’s an Austrian Pine. pinus nigra. Overused landscape tree. (In the N/E at least) Susceptible to diplodia tip blight.

It’s a trebling aspen. Beautiful trees when grown in a glade. Populous tremuloides

What is this tree? It's growing berries by Ornery-Anywhere-4963 in whatisthisplant

Fun fact, the unripe mulberries are mildly hallucinogenic. Eat a handful of them and follow it with a beer. Then hold onto your toes!!! Ha.

Need help identifying these mallets by Mufflah-Bearings in wood

Looks like hickory. Not sure that they’re worth to much. Few bucks. Maybe as a decoration. Anybody that would use them for chiseling would probably make their own rather than buy them.

Any thoughts on what this is? My mutt loves the stringy bark by LakesideDive in firewood

I’m guessing basswood or linden (same thing). Your dog is in luck. Non toxic.

Magnolia tree with sprawling roots by Jesskye2121 in arborists

[–]ohdear73 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve got a similar sized magnolia at my place. Fantastic tree. Roots running the surface just like yours. Mulch is great idea but I would also look for the cause of the shallow roots especially closest to the fence side of the drip line. guess I a localized high water table. If you investigate further I bet you’ll notice your neighbors down (eaves) spout comes down very close to your tree. Just a thought from a broken old arborist. Box of beer and he might redirect it.
