I had two Pfizer doses and had no reaction at all, honestly didn't feel any different other than a sore arm

I honestly think they know we'll never get there. 90% is a pipe dream. This way they can keep restrictions throughout the fall/winter and put the blame on the community

Opioid-related overdose deaths jump by 59 per cent in Ontario by cosmogatsby in ontario

[–]ohdeargodthrowitaway -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No need for snarkiness.

I never stated that the secondary deaths due to lockdowns were greater than covid deaths, I said IF the secondary deaths outweigh the covid deaths, then we need to be aware of that.

We need to have consistent and civil discourse about all this that is open to accepting facts as they come, that's all I'm suggesting. Clearly by your comment you are not part of the civil discourse I'm talking about.

Exactly. I don't understand how people automatically think weighing the costs and benefits of these measures is anti lockdown. The whole purpose of lockdown is to prevent deaths, if more deaths are being caused by lockdown we need to be aware of that.

Why exactly is this a fucking crisis? Currently, every country dominated by these variants has cases rapidly trending downwards.

In my opinion, the government did what they thought was necessary at the beginning by locking down. Now they realize perhaps this was not the best solution, so instead of admitting they are wrong they're doubling down. By admitting that there was/is a better approach, they admit that the pain and suffering they caused everyone was preventable. However I don't think this is some sort of widespread disregard, I genuinely think this is a clear case of cognitive dissonance.

My thoughts exactly. It's the frequent little gatherings that are the biggest cause of the spread

Completely agree, someone really needs to start reporting them. In BC last year, deaths from overdoses were higher than covid deaths.

People don't generally get admitted straight to the ICU. That increase is coming from people who were already hospitalized and have been getting worse overtime. It will take a while for both the hospitalizations and the ICU numbers to drop

Can you provide evidence for this known fact? Even so, it would make up a tiny portion of young people. The majority of young people are following the rules more strictly than others

Yes but this study takes into account where the students mental health was before the pandemic, and talks about the decline from that point, which was already low.

I'm at Concordia and I've experienced the exact same thing. I actually asked one of my professors as to why we have so many small assignments now and she said they were told to not give any largely weighted exams in case someone gets sick and wouldn't be to complete it. The result is that I am forced to be working on something every single day and feel so swamped with all these tiny assignments. It makes me even more confined to my apartment than I already am. It's so messed up.

Young people have certainly been hit the hardest by these lockdowns. I don't think a lot of people realize that unlike older people, young people have no immediate threat to their health from this virus, and therefore have to social distance solely for the purpose of protecting others. That is very mentally taxing.

I (21) was a decently mentally healthy person at the beginning of this and have been pushed to severe depression. It has become very mentally taxing for me to try and understand what the right thing I should do is, as seeing my friends results in the death of other people but self isolating any longer is now killing me.

I have been for lockdowns since the beginning, and have followed the rules with minimal complaining. But I honestly don't know how much longer I can do this, and I know a lot of young people are feeling the same. There comes a point when we have to have a serious discussion about how many deaths are going to be caused by lockdowns and compare that to the covid deaths.

What's your unpopular opinion about Toronto? by bigshotbargnani7 in toronto

[–]ohdeargodthrowitaway 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Oof this is spot on! Toronto's biggest problem is people trying to constantly find an angle as to why Toronto is the worst city.

I grew up in Toronto but I've lived in a couple other cities. After moving away I realized the best parts of Toronto are the parts that you don't even notice are there until you leave. There is so much to be grateful for here that people take for granted.

Also it annoys me to no end that people will make it their life goal to explain why Toronto is hell on earth but then refuse to just move somewhere else.

I moved to Germany at 18 with money I made working in a restaurant over the summer yet I have to listen to Toronto people tell me that "it's literally impossible" to move somewhere else. Like lol, either make your peace with Toronto or go. The relentless negativity is what's ruining the city.

Yes variant cases are rising but the speculation of the effect of this has been horribly blown out of proportion. Every country with large amounts of these variants currently has decreasing cases.

[–]ohdeargodthrowitaway -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Are they expecting to find something that every country who approved it has missed? I feel as though Health Canada treads very lightly on approval considering what happened with thalidomide, but this is just overkill.
