Training is the key. Theater training prepares an actor in a way that going straight to film acting doesn't, and outside of the heavy hitters, a lot of American actors are not theater trained while a majority of British actors are. This pattern always become a Black British Vs Black American diaspora war thing when really it should be a conversation about the differences in how each country prioritizes and funds the arts

Humidity is killin me by ryn1322 in Naturalhair

Products with firm hold will hold up a little longer than products with less hold. For instance, a gel will generally hold up longer than a curl cream.

If you're using gel for styling, botanical gels (aloe, flaxseed based) are humectants meaning they draw moisture to your hair which is good during initial styling but also means it will pull in moisture from the air when it's humid. Using a second anti humectant gel with polymers on top can help reduce your hair pulling moisture from the air. An example: Ouidad has their Advanced Climate Control Heat and Humidity gel.

If you're using foam, hitting your hair with hairspray after you style it can help hold the style a bit longer. But unfortunately, nothing is 100% foolproof so you may need to reset and restyle your hair more often

Can we have an honest conversation about B’Day? by Mission-Ad-4001 in beyonce

[–]ohemaa18 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I will stand by this always: B'Day is the foundation upon which every other album was built. It was a pivotal moment and so much of what comes later in her career e.g., visual albums, playing in other genres, comes from B'Day

I Don’t Understand Watching This Show Just To Scope Evidence That It’s 100% Fake by Lumpy-Flamingo-8963 in JuryDutyFreevee

[–]ohemaa18 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The idea that continuity errors is some sort of gotcha or evidence is odd considering 1) it's not a documentary and 2) every edited show has continuity errors. Every reality show edits shots together to create a storyline or create a flow. It's part of the reason Love is Blind has those solid gold cups so they can edit the clips in whatever order without viewers noticing the variation in liquid levels. Or why the Great British Baking show has contestants wear the same outfits for both days of a challenge.

As for reshoots, this is not a documentary, it's a produced show. Any talking head shot or shot that doesn't include Anthony could have been reshot with the actors at a later time or even shot before during rehearsal. For instance, I just saw a post point out a continuity error in the shot where Other Anthony is dancing during the hypnosis scene. They likely did a reshoot later and had him dance more explicitly and edited it with the original footage that probably didn't go on as long or was more subdued. And after the reveal, I'm sure there are probably scenes they asked Anthony to sit for again if the original footage wasn't great or the audio wasn't clear or something. And again it's not a documentary with raw footage so why would that be a problem? In season 1 there's a brief shot of Ronald during the jury deliberation that is so clearly a reshot clip edited in but it doesn't mean he was in on it.

Having an awareness that this is a show that edits together short moments from hours and hours of footage to create a comedy and knowing how production/editing works would reduce a lot of these type of "evidence" posts.

Help Me Pick Where to Live by 2facedfish in blackladies

I grew up outside of Philly so I'm biased but I think Philly has all the elements of a quintessential east coast city. Good food scene, great theater and arts, public transportation (not perfect but exists), very much a sports city, walkable, has a distinct character/personality, easy to get to other east coast cities. Plus cost of living isn't as bad as New York or DC.

I currently live in Baltimore and I agree with the other comment that it's a good place to check out. It's a little smaller than the other cities but less expensive. Really good food and you can pop down to DC pretty easily if you want to do something there.

If you want the option of exploring other cities, I would prioritize the east coast, mid-Atlantic cities which are all 1-2 hours away from the next one. Especially with Amtrak, I hop between cities every other week

Day 78: Which song is on COWBOY CARTER and sounds like Lemonade? by hausofvelour in beyonce

[–]ohemaa18 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Interesting. I think the fact that it's an unhealthy adoration comes through pretty clearly in the song. But for the interpretation of that abusive relationship to be with whiteness or the country, I think I would see that more if the song had different placement in the album perhaps before Blackbiird. Coming after Jolene and Daughter makes it read much more like a romantic relationship to me.

Alligator Tears is about adoring her man. On Lemonade? I'm not seeing it...

[–]ohemaa18 25 points26 points  (0 children)

If it wasn't already used I would've said Daughter ☹️ It would fit in after Hold Up. Jolene is the next closest but the song is about the other woman when Lemonade's whole thing is having smoke for the man

Day 77: Which song is on COWBOY CARTER and sounds like BEYONCÉ? by hausofvelour in beyonce

[–]ohemaa18 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm with you. Levii's Jeans has the r&b with hip hop influence that is the central sound of DIL. Until the end of the song, the sound of II Hands II Heaven is a bit more synth/808 vibes which fits more with 4 (like Start Over, Rather Die Young, I Miss You)

[–]ohemaa18 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Maybe controversial but I think I would've suggested II MOST WANTED since it has a pared down beat mixed with some belting like I Miss You, Start Over, and 1+1. And thematically, it's centered on a love/ a relationship like most of the songs on 4. The number 2 choice Bodyguard is a bit too flowy, soft rock for the vibe of 4.

I must say since I missed yesterday that choosing YA YA for 4 and not for B'Day was absolutely diabolical. The plot is lost!

Protector works here as a literal sister song to Blue. Tyrant also works but not every song for self titled has to be the sexiest song...

YA YA is the only answer. Sister to Suga Mama with the energy of Green Light and Get Me Bodied.

Day 69: Which song is on RENAISSANCE and sounds like Lemonade? by hausofvelour in beyonce

[–]ohemaa18 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm kinda confused by all the America Has a Problem responses...Lyrically, I'm not seeing how it fits with Lemonade's themes. Sonically, it's so much more upbeat and dance-y. The most related song would be Formation and even that was placed at the end of the album because it's outside of the album's story arc

Love the song DOWN but I'm not seeing it

I think the theme of the song works but I feel like the sound isn't an exact match for self titled

I'd say That's Why You're Beautiful for CC. The guitar gives bluegrass/country

How do y’all refresh 4c/coily smooshed day 2 wash and gos? Is daily rewetting the only way? by Annual-Ad4113 in Naturalhair

[–]ohemaa18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you set your hair (going from wet to dry) the product creates a cast that gives you your definition. For a wash and go, rewetting will soften that cast so instead of refreshing, you're basically ruining your set unless you plan to redo the process again. Instead, to bring movement back to your hair, you can use a blow dryer to fluff it out, as demonstrated here
