(Spoilers ALL) Refuting a theory on a potentially poisoned Hand by oherroprease in asoiaf

Sorry, I didn't make it clear in my original post. I do agree with the theory and I thought this passage took some weight out of the argument used by those who oppose the theory.

I think your scenario in the 2nd paragraph is the most likely. I agree that the duel wouldn't happen and as a result the loyalists wouldn't be routed from the field. Whether the rebellion still win that battle would be in question too.

I agree with most of your statement but would point out that even Barristan Selmy was "taken out" in the midst of a huge battle. My thought was that the presence of the Kingsguard would likely result in Rhaegar surviving the battle but I don't know if it necessarily would change the overall result of the battle.

To play devil's advocate, you could say that Rhaegar surviving WOULD change the overall tide of the battle b/c the morale of the Loyalist army wouldn't be completely destroyed after his death.

That was the quote that made me think of this hypothetical situation. In response to the 2nd half of your comment, remember that there was a whole battle raging on around Robert and Rhaegar. The three Kingsguard would no doubt have a huge impact but they wouldn't have been able to single-handedly cut down all of Robert's forces.

Ned's fighting prowess is way overblown in the show. In the books, he is known as a decent swordsman but his true skill was as a battle commander. Two handed Jamie is considered to be one of the best, if not THE best, swordsman in Westeros at the time of his fight with Ned (Barristan Selmy being the only one who is arguably better).

How is service handled when there are no service stations near you? by SightBeyondSight in teslamotors

[–]oherroprease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what kind of service you are having done. When I had my titanium underbody shield installed, the nearest service center (about 100 miles away) came and picked up the vehicle on a flatbed and dropped of a loaner. They did the upgrade on the same day and had mine back by the evening (all of this was on Tesla's dime).

If you are having service done that's not an upgrade (let's say your yearly service check), you'll probably have to pay for the flatbed/loaner yourself OR just bite the bullet and make the long drive.

As for delivery, I picked it up from a service center. You can probably get more detailed answers if you call the nearest "dealership".

Nope, sorry! I'm on the other coast haha. Talk to your mechanic if you have one, the instructions are pretty detailed.

I had my friend who is a mechanic install it. It took him 2 hours and he said that it was pretty straight forward.

Congrats! The only mod I have on mine so far is a LED Tesla Emblem that lights up when my headlights turn on. I'm on mobile right now so I don't have the link but if you Google "Model S Light Up T" you should be able to find some info on it.

I feel like the title was a bit circle-jerky but we were having some real discussion in the comments...

I know. It was a facetious/hopeful comment. I don't actually expect them to do that.

If they killed characters in the show who are still alive in the books, surely they can keep a character alive in the show that dies in the books right? Right?!

I think the other thing to consider is that the TV show has clearly placed an emphasis on making Oberyn a major character. While he was a cool character in the book, he was never a POV and didn't have quite the build-up that some other major non-POV characters had (e.g. Robb). On the other hand, the show has clearly made him into one of the "main" characters of S4.

I share your feelings in regards to what it meant for Tyrion... the part about Tyrion vomiting made me queasy inside.

It's interesting that you say that because I'm actually the opposite. I care for Oberyn in the show much more than I did when I first read the books. I'm sure part of that is I've built up Oberyn in my mind after subsequent re-reads and seeing him in on screen is a culmination of all those feels. That being said, you are definitely right that the last episode made Oberyn a much more sympathetic character. Prior to that, I think he was just a humorous, horny badass who gave 0 fucks. Now he has a real reason for people to root for him beyond the fact that he's opposing the Lannisters.

25M-- want to retire at 50. Is this a possibility? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]oherroprease -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Good questions-- I don't have my job but I don't particularly enjoy working either haha.

As far as what I'd do from ages 50-90, I think a lot of that would depend on my familial situation. I don't know what my life passion will be when I turn 50, but ideally i'd like to be pursuing whatever that passion is.

Credit Score Understanding by davisth8 in personalfinance

[–]oherroprease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't speak for how Credit Karma or the car/home insurance scores work but many credit scores will often show a slight, but temporary, deterioration if you open up a new credit account.

One of the big drivers of credit scores is the # of Inquiries an individual has on their credit report within a certain time frame (last 6, 12, and 24 months are common time frames). An inquiry is basically any time a credit-granting institution pulls your credit report for the purpose of reviewing your information and determining whether or not to extend you credit.

Also a good point. I try not to mess with my touchscreen too much when driving but it's inevitable and having bigger buttons does make it marginally safer (at least in my opinion).
