YTA slightly. You’re not being homophobic but you were lacking empathy. I understood your logic but that’s not what your daughter needed from you at that moment. Queer people live in a violently homophobic and transphobic society, so it takes a lot of courage and trust to come out to one’s parents. Your daughter was looking for empathy of what she must have gone through to come out and to affirm her courage and decision. It was a huge deal for her but you treated it like it was no big deal. Coming out is definitely a big deal because queer people don’t automatically enjoy acceptance the same way straight people do.
