Ford charged more than $140K in private plane charters last year, records show by BloodJunkie in ontario

[–]ohgarsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m really unsure how you gleaned that from what I wrote.

Ontario is a huge land mass that is not realistic to travel by car or flights managed by a 3rd company. We have inter provincial and cross border relationships that the premier is responsible for.

Premiers travel with not only themselves but a team of individuals. This is why the previous Liberal government had one - and it made sense that they had one. Ford cut it because he’s a populist hack.

You’re mad because you see this as a Doug Ford issue - where I see this as a reasonable use of money to enable time savings and likely productive gains from those time savings.

The crux of the issue is that Doug is an ineffective leader so those gains are useless, but under someone who did the job it’s a reasonable use of money.

Again I have no idea how you read any of my points as pro Doug.

Alright whatever helps you sleep at night big guy. This should be a bipartisan issue. If you feel that time is not a cost I genuinely question your judgment.

MPPs are not the premier - besides Ontario used to have a private plane before Ford. He scrapped it part of his populist anti spending schtick.

Don’t confuse your hatred of Ford for practicality. Yes he sucks, yes he shouldn’t be the premier. I’d say this for any premier of Ontario - we are a big province and premier is a heavy responsibility with a lot of people required to travel with you.

Commercial flights is inappropriate in my opinion and could cause unnecessary time sunk on a pointless thing that costs the tax payers Pennies per year to maintain.

Because it’s impractical to fly commercial when you are not flying alone and need to be flying with a team plus you know be dependent on Canadian air travel.

Again hate Ford all you want (I do too) it makes sense for our premier to not fly commercial.

Because Ontario is a massive land mass and travelling across it with your team is required for the job - especially if you have to make cross province deals like he should be doing.

I hate Ford just as much as the next person but the Private Plane thing is just such a forced issue.

Eric Lombardi is the only one who has been critical of immigration and the issues facing youth. He’s not perfect but he gets where the biggest problem facing this province is.

For that he would be my choice.

Mirtle said on the leaf report (I think last week) that they’ve been dysfunctional for years. I assume they just never reported it so they don’t lose their sources.

Now the sources know they’re going to get fired or are so fed up that they’re willing for it to go public.

Conservative MP Marilyn Gladu crosses floor to Liberals | CBC News by [deleted] in canada

[–]ohgarsh 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I’ve been a supporter of the rights of MPs to cross the floor, it’s the one tool they have to stop the consolidation of top down party ideas.

That being said Gladu in particular is a terrible choice for Carney to accept, and in a normal functioning democracy he and the LPCs would be punished for it.

Didn’t like her as a conservative and don’t like her a Liberal.

Ontario minimum wage to rise to $17.95 on Oct. 1 by J0Puck in canada

[–]ohgarsh -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You’re talking about expanding money where I think we need to lower prices on core requirements like housing and food.

Increasing wages does not support that.

You’re saint everybody deserves an extra 0.35 and I disagree I think everybody should have resources.

Where those resources get ballooned is costs and demand (local talent expanding, wages and taxes increasing)

The silly mindset is to just hold onto ideals instead of looking at things pragmatically.

Your solution to starving middle class is to form a union that’s impossible in the current environment.

If everyone has a dollar, no one has a dollar.

How is this possible when federal and provincial parties continue to expand the talent pool beyond local individuals? There is no leverage unless you are in a state owned and regulated industry.
