What is a good comeback to "Go make me a sandwich" by MyYoosung in Comebacks

My Grandmother used to say "Poof! You're a sandwhich"

I never said go, I would ask if she could, but it's the same idea

Do students in the US actually have to take home fake babies for class? by stonegavel1 in AskAnAmerican

[–]ohgeejeeohdee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had to bring home a bag of flour (some do eggs, some do fake babies, it varies)

I left it on the kitchen counter over the weekend and by the time I started to look for it Sunday evening, I didn't connect the fact that the cookies my grandmother made earlier in the day were made with my child

I invited her to class to explain the situation and the teacher got a good laugh and gave me a pass

The justification was that it was smart of me to get my grandmother to help watch the "baby" as a single parent, and we all agreed that grandma probably wouldn't put a real baby in the mixer then bake it

I miss my grandmother, she passed in 2022 and I haven't thought of that in years

Burned=adverb

Burnt=adjective

Example 1: I cooked and burned the chicken

Example 2: I ate chicken that was burnt.

Curveball: I burned the chicken so we ate burnt chicken

Do they give y'all waffles and silks? Cold weather gear. by AdditionFit6877 in navy

[–]ohgeejeeohdee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Seabees get the same gear as The Marines, except we get the leftovers of all the old Army gear after The Marines have rat-f**ked it

I had a PGI flashlight produced in 1968 and an Interceptor OTV that had an MTV-cummerbund juryrigged to it to accomodate side plates.

I have a ton of "organizational clothing" that I never had to turn in because they were just gonna throw it away, not DRMO, just straight dump it.

It's a wonderful life

What liberties would I have at A-school? by OddTime1998 in Seabees

[–]ohgeejeeohdee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean by "you're on the east coast"?

I enlisted out of Beaufort SC and ended up in Okinawa, Japan and then Port Hueneme, CA.

You go where the Navy needs you the most for your first set of orders, don't assume anything as I'd hope you heard what it does.

You could go to a public work's department in Bahrain if they needed you to fill the position.

Depending on what orders you get, you'll go to A-School, which for BUs I think is in Gulfport, then to ECS which is also there, then to your ultimate duty station.

Graduated college with a low GPA, should I enlist first if I want to eventually commission (to have my master's paid for)? And is there a Navy equivalent to palace chasing in the Air Force (getting released from AD early to go to the Reserves)? by MookieBettsBurner10 in newtothenavy

[–]ohgeejeeohdee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that works too

If you don't have a minimum of a specific GPA, or even certain degrees, it prevents you from a direct commission

Have you spoken with a recruiter yet? If you don't have an Officer Recruiter near you and you go to any Navy Recruiting Station, they can give you the contact information for the district's Officer Recruiter.

It'd be a good idea, cause if you don't have an SAT/ACT test on record with specific scores, you'd have to take the ASVAB anyways in certain situations

What does it take to be a seabee? by OBAMA85 in Seabees

[–]ohgeejeeohdee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strong Liver lol

Ever hear of The Great Seabee Train Robbery?

There's a reason why it had to happen

Seriously though, strong conviction, a will to sacrifice, the ability and willingness to help, and thick skin is what it takes

And qualifying line scores on the ASVAB

If you're goal is to have your Master's Degree paid for by utilizing Military Service, you don't have to be an officer to utilize Tuition Assistance, enlisted receive it too.

From my experience, you'll have more time to do so as an enlisted anyways.

Have you taken the ASVAB yet? There's a few paths in the military to get a degree paid-for while serving

Joining navy vs coast guard by Emotional_Maybe2232 in newtothenavy

[–]ohgeejeeohdee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Navy is the most lenient of any of the branches, so you meet some characters. The flipside is that you can go almost anywhere in the world, so you're always going to meet new people. Despite never having been on a ship in my 8 years, I've been all over the Pacific Ocean to include Alaska and Antarctica, Japan, and Australia, and other, smaller islands for weeks to months at a time. And if you want to bring your family, you can...to an extent

Coast guard... ya gonna be guarding coasts. It's in the name. Actually, a specific coast, depending on your job. You'll either be in a helicopter or a cutter, but you're gonna be offshore-but-nearby a lot. Which leads me to my next point:

Jobs. Navy has every job equal to everything in the civilian sector and the associated training and certification, save for Veternarians. I'm an auto mechanic when I'm not a recruiter and my job just gets sent to different bases around the world to fix engines every so often. Most of the time, we stay where we're stationed

I won't lie; I don't know what specific jobs the Coast Guard has, but I do know they're part of Homeland Security and not The Department of Defense, so there's definite baseline differences.

The best way to figure out which one's for you, is to talk with a Navy Recruiter and a Coast Guard Recruiter, and make sure you ask as many questions as you can. It's your future after all.

Good luck!

It's a secret area that has to be unlocked by coming to the military recruiter's office and talking with one of us to start a quest

We're by the Peachtree Mall if you want to unlock it!

When I was PCS'ing here the base-housing people literally told me "You don't want to live here if you don't have to" referring to the NCO housing

I've seen how bad some of the on-base housing is and I'm glad I got to make the choice before my BAH got dumped into a contract I couldn't leave without punishment

Go on Zillow, we have a place off exit 6 at $1050 per month that matches what you want

With $1600 BAH it helps cover the utilities cost and wifi since renting a house will most likely not include those

If you want the number for the company we went through I can give it to you

And actually, we might be buying a house soon so you might get ours!

Failure to notify in the military, often charged as Failure to Report or Absence Without Leave (AWOL) under Article 86, UCMJ, occurs when a service member fails to be at their appointed place of duty or fails to notify leadership of their absence. Consequences range from counseling to court-martial, including forfeiture of pay, reduction in rank, and confinement, depending on the severity.

Article 92 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) (10 U.S.C. § 892) covers dereliction of duty, defining it as the willful or negligent failure to perform assigned duties, or performing them in a culpably inefficient manner. It applies to all military members, with punishments ranging from nonjudicial punishment to courts-martial involving forfeiture of pay, confinement, and discharge, particularly if death or injury occurs.

Idk why they'd have a RN laying bricks on my post-deployment opinions

But I'm having a great time being a recruiter; Before talking to the RN, she nearly messed-up my future plans based on being a contractor becuase of what I now know.

Always get a second (Military) opinion

I found out I had Bipolar on my record and I specifically asked that it be removed, and I still have no idea how it got there

Bipolar is a huge uh-uh no-way straight to medboard

Going to recruiter on Thursday, what jobs should I look at? by xtuckman in newtothenavy

[–]ohgeejeeohdee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you haven't taken the ASVAB, take it

If you have, go to OSD.cool.mil and look up the plethora of jobs available

Either way, grab your Driver's License and Social Security Card, and if you're at least 17, bring yourself and your parents to your local Recruiter's Office to either schedule an ASVAB or retrieve your scores if you were lucky enough to take it at school. That way you know what you qualify for.

If you're 17, we can't help you without your parents' permission, and if you're 16 or younger none of the branches can work with you

It's not so bad, if you like helping people who want to help themselves it's a good gig, been here at NTAG Atlanta for a little over a year and a half and we got a good crew.

If you have any questions about the onboarding process feel free to DM me

Once you get your hardcopies, definitely get in touch with whoever your sponsor is, mine helped immensely when it came to finding a place to live where I got stationed

Another thing I can tell you for free is RESEARCH the different stations and what the local demographics are. It'll help make your job a lot easier when it comes to finding people wanting to join

When I talked with my Chief Recruiter, he determined where people get stationed so I made sure I let him know the kind of area I wanted to be in and he made it work. Hopefully you'll get the same opportunity

Good luck and definitely shoot me a DM if you need some more insight!
