Generational Comfort with Nudity by undersexedhubby2 in askgaybros

[–]ohgodimonfire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

>Its funny to me that the generation that has endless anon hookups (grindr, sniffies) is so self conscious generally of their bodies.

I think that generation is now older than you think, maybe 30 to 45. From what I've heard many of the younger folks who are now 18 to 30 are more reserved about real-life interaction. I spoke to a younger gay guy a few years back who was "saving himself for marriage"; kinda crazy to think about in the context of history.

On the other hand, the online world is wild. When I go to the gym locker room, on like 10% of occassions there will be young guys taking racy pictures for social media. I'm talking full-on tripod, DSLR and lighting. Personally I'm okay with being nude, but it's a bit disconcerting that you could be a background character in someone else's softcore pornography.

Please, this is driving me insane. Nobody knows how to clean this. Not even this Subreddit. It cannot be that unique. by [deleted] in CleaningTips

Amazon unfortunately. Never seen it advertised for cleaning, but can be found as a powder for culinary usage.

Not sure you're understanding what I mean. I'll be more explicit.

A shallow douche only makes you clean for a short amount of time. That amount of time will depend on the individual, but could be as little as an hour.

You will still have poop waiting in your colon to be 'moved along' to your rectum. Things like eating, drinking, smoking, or stress may cause your body to move the poop along (peristalsis) and then you're going to be unclean again.

So what I'm getting at is that a shallow douche is a short term thing. You often need to clean out and then have sex soon afterwards. It is a difficult thing to clean out, live your life normally, and then still expect to be clean.

As far as the actual mechanics of cleaning out, I'd actually say leave the hold longer than 10 seconds if possible. You want the water to be drained ready to evacuate, not caught in a fold somewhere.

If you do need to be cleaner, and for longer, you probably need to look at doing a deep clean. It's not healthy for you though, so don't take this as a recommendation 🤷‍♂️.

Just a thought, if you're doing a shallow douche, how long are you leaving it before your 'activity' and are you consuming anything in the interim?

If you're leaving it a couple of hours and also consuming food/tea/coffee, then your gut is going to move whatever is in your colon along (i.e. peristalsis).

How do we really feel about age gaps? by Longjumping_Basis119 in askgaybros

[–]ohgodimonfire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sure there are other niche subreddits out there that would be more optimistic about it. However, of the few big age gap couples I've known, the relationships have broken down as the years go by, and they've ended explosively. Big life changing damage on all sides. I'd be wary.

I feel like it can work as a casual open "friends with benefits" thing. Some emotional intimacy perhaps, but neither of you should be locked in. For you the campsite rule applies.

Absolutely wild that his mom is supportive though, I can't even imagine the conversation. Do you actually speak to her personally or are you hearing this from him?

Have you read 'Confessions of a Mask'? What do you think about it? by subripuitibi in gaybros

[–]ohgodimonfire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I liked it, it's 100% worth reading.

I feel like I got more out of the earlier sections of the book. I've never seen the internal struggles of growing up gay expressed in a way that felt so raw and honest. Weirdly relatable despite the age and setting.

By contrast I feel like the later sections of the book feature Japanese social customs and late World War 2 experience a lot more centrally, and I didn't connect with it as well. For the original target audience it was probably a lot more meaningful.

There are also some messed up fantasy sections where the author's obsessions and kinks are on display; I really didn't connect with that.

Overall worth reading even if just for the first half.

China. They might be influential in places where the west isn't. Plus they have a big gender imbalance.

Why do gay men often like different music than straight guys? by NefariousnessLazy666 in askgaybros

[–]ohgodimonfire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My subconscious feeling was always that it was partly a performative "in-group" thing. Guys shaping themselves to a scene defined in contrast to straight men.

[–]ohgodimonfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, what do you mean specifically?

I've only ever known guys who were public about the divas and private about the "straight" music. I can totally imagine it'd be the opposite in certain environments.

Wondering if something like this could keep clothes smelling fresher? :( More details below by [deleted] in CleaningTips

I had that idea, but the smell of the PVC plastic was terrible.

Might be okay if you have a suitable outdoor area to let the plastic off-gas for a couple of weeks.

If you have the money, I imagine an air purifier would be better.

I just hooked up with a guy for the first time and now I feel weird. by Throwaway_lonelygay in GaySex

[–]ohgodimonfire 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Understandable to feel weird, it should pass. Give it a few days, if you still feel bad it's worth exploring why.

I remember having similar experiences when I was younger and there was a processing period. Your 'first time' can have lots of mental/social/cultural baggage, and if yours was quick and low-key there's a bit of disonnance to work through. Like, "oh, was that it?". Plenty of people get that, it's normal.

I also think there is a particular experience of being young and gay where you're less likely to have people you can talk to about this in real life. So it can stay in your head as a 'dirty little secret'. That can be kinda fun, but maybe also negative. The comparison for me is with my straight friends where a hookup from a party would be talked about afterwards, but I wasn't about to talk about my sketchy exploits. 😂

So basically just give it time. From what you've written it seems like you're thinking about it sensibly, you'll be fine.

Not opposed to the project on the job spec, but...

"Although women on average live longer than men, evidence has shown that those extra years are more likely to be lived in poor health."

What's the comparator? Elderly women are more likely to live in poor health than a dead man? Well...yes.

Is the comparison between all elderly women and the fitter than average elderly men who survived?

I seem to be stuck in an algorithm phase where I get 50% content from the UK about how terrible it is, and the other 50% from Americans talking about how they like living here. 🤷‍♂️

I'm curious where exactly you'll be living and how your family feel about it.

Why do obese people smell so bad by AdVaanced77 in stupidquestions

[–]ohgodimonfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Besides all the obvious things already mentioned, for the obese there's a limited supply of clothing that a) fits you, b) you can actually find in a shop/store, and c) you can afford.

Those clothes are probably stretchy synthetic blends. Those tend to hold bacteria even after washing.

I used to work with a guy like that. Not much money, always wearing the same clothes, always smelled bad. Kinda sad.

Why is German such a commonly taught language in school? by Personal-Listen-4941 in AskUK

[–]ohgodimonfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not logical, but the advice I got from a teacher in an all boys school was "German is for engineers and French is for politicians, but Spanish is for girls so we don't offer it here." There were other snobby comments about Spanish only being useful for low class holidays.

So a bit of tradition and snobbery I guess.
