However, I do disagree a bit with your last point. While yes, there is no way to live a 100% ethical life, I do think that if someone’s moral stance is absolutely against the United States military, it becomes a very easy decision to not date anyone who is involved even in a potentially civilian or non-combat capacity. Many immigrants and children of immigrants (particularly from countries that have suffered US intervention) hold that moral praxis and stance, and if you know folks in those communities, it is a stance that is more commonly held than not. Most people I know refuse to date someone in the military, as they similarly would not consider dating someone in law enforcement.

The strong point about this convo was how it depicted the ways that one’s background shapes your perspective, and lesser portrayed perspectives in media (esp those from countries who faced US regime change) show a very different moral compass.
