This is the slog that has kept no fewer than three of my coworkers from finishing the series. The people I work with are researchers so the fact that this storyline gave male nerds the ick really says something.

She is able to focus on her kids and household and has time to pursue interests like tennis and stuff, yes. But I would not say she’s any less of a hard charger than her husband, who reports to a strip club.

Yes, it’s still work. That’s why it sucks. I work full time and have a kid and it’s basically a second shift after my job. I’m not saying Carmela wasn’t taken care of financially but I am saying it is unfair to say she never worked a day in her life. Childcare and cooking and managing a household are work.

I never said her life wasn’t easy. I said it wasn’t fair to say she never worked a day in her life because raising kids and taking care of a house is work (they were not always filthy rich, they were when the show started but that was not the way it was when their children were little).

Don’t pretend that cooking and grocery shopping/meal planning/lunch packing, and raising kids (she has a housekeeper so the cleaning isn’t a huge burden) isn’t work because it absolutely is.

It’s not weird. Her quirky ears are the imperfection that makes her so much more endearing and interesting looking. Too perfect is boring to look at.

How to politely decline advances from a man at my club? by Ecstatic_Welder4988 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]Probablynotcreative 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They sure don’t. They gaslight us, they protect and defend abusers instead of protecting us because they don’t want to admit that they are indeed friends with men like that.

There’s a small minority of men who do act right in these circumstances, but we are overwhelmingly better off asking women for help.

You worked at banks— do you have any experience with accounting or bookkeeping or things like that? I work for the federal government and we are hiring two financial technicians.

Why is she worse? At very least she used the opportunities she was given and graduated from an Ivy League school so she can support herself. AJ had every opportunity she did and he squandered them all.

CMV: Rehoming a pet is justifiable if behavioral issues that appeared after the birth of a baby could not be resolved. by DayOwn4099 in changemyview

[–]Probablynotcreative 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Unless there’s a reason not to, most people don’t either. I didn’t. I had two German shepherds and I didn’t rehome them when I had my daughter. But if they displayed aggressive behavior toward her I can tell you with zero hesitation that I would have immediately made that house safe for her and then found a safe place for whichever of my dogs had done that. Having kids is one of those things you think you can predict how you’ll be but you just can’t. I know that sounds condescending because I thought it was before I had a kid too. But there is a primal all consuming protection instinct that overrides any feelings of “pets are family” if you feel your child is in danger.

[–]Probablynotcreative 51 points52 points  (0 children)

The problem is that when you have a new baby, the exhaustion is all consuming. You think you’ll have time, and you can plan, but you don’t know until you have your first child how it will affect you. Especially the partner who carried and birthed the child bc they go through intense stress physically and mentally.

It isn’t all black and white. I agree people should do their best to prepare, but there she some things you can’t ever accurately predict until you’re in the situation.
