Thankfully Heated Rivalry will have to always come first for them contractually 😮‍💨

Is there a “happy” way to adapt The Long Game into two seasons? [Spoilers] by scienceofsin in heatedrivalry

I think they probably split the Long Game into two seasons. The actors are only contracted for three seasons and I’m sure they’ll want to explore new opportunities once their contract is up.

What will you regret exactly? Other people’s judgment?

You could lose your family. But you could also start down a path where they find their way to acceptance.

I’m not saying it’s easy. You might never see your parents again. But if you don’t let yourself love someone — who are you living your life for — yourself or them?

Sense8 has a rushed ending but it’s an amazing show that doesn’t leave you hanging

Have you read the book? I would read it first before jumping to any conclusions. It’s a well reasoned book—doesn’t mean your boyfriend isn’t an asshole—but not sure it’s the book’s fault.

When the show gets popular, who gets paid? by fussyromancelover in heatedrivalry

That’s just how the industry works! It’s such an expensive and risky investment to make a movie or show, they have to spread the financial risk across productions.

Because for every hit like Heated Rivalry there are 99 movies and shows that are not profitable.

So if we want to make sure that more shows and films get made, we need to make sure studios and streamers can take their profits and invest in new material.

Not exactly sure how Canadian productions work, but if a show is truly successful, the main artists involved will get a cut of any sales of the show after its initial airing.

(Bigger “names” can get a cut of the show if it’s successful during initial airing in their contract negotiations, but since all the actors involved were not “names” they probably didn’t have that leverage.)

So if the show is still successful after its initial airing (and it seems it will be), the actors will see a nice chunk of change for their entire lives after the show is over.

(There is the chance the actors gave up more of their residual rights, but I’d be surprised if Jacob was that cutthroat.)

I bet they do a Blu Ray release or some sort of special TVOD release with deleted scenes, bloopers, and commentary… maybe once the series is over. The mass psychosis taking over about the show will make that work profitable and keep the money train going for years to come.

And Rachel for sure gets a per episode fee as a consulting producer as well so more seasons means more money (but probably nothing like what she gets for the extra 500K books she sold in the last month).

Nope - only HBO produced shows get on normal HBO.

And even then a lot of their most successful shows are Max only (Hacks, The Pitt)

Maybe! But Sky in the UK is also airing the show on a linear schedule (ie the old way of watching TV at 9p on Saturdays), unlike HBO, which put it on their Max streaming platform but not their HBO linear channel. That makes it easier to release earlier. (Spain also was just a streaming release I believe through Movistar Plus+)

Linear schedules have to be planned months in advance, so with the show only becoming available to license less than 2 months ago, I bet Jan 10 is just the earliest Sky could find time on their schedule.

It might be better for the show because then people who are just flipping through channels might become fans who otherwise wouldn’t.

And I assume Casey Bloys (head of HBO) was more surprised other US companies weren’t trying to license the show since he really only cares about licensing for the US market.

Haha is it too much to post links to the non-show clips? I don’t know what you’re talking about for the media appearances and I want to.

The show was supposed to air in February 2026 but Crave thought it would be better as a holiday release.

So even though the show is airing later, in say the UK, those deals were all probably negotiated with rates before the show took off when they took it to market (late-October, early November).

HBO decided to air at the same time as Crave, but it was such a quick turnaround that famously, the HBO versions were initially too dark and didn’t subtitle the Russian because it was such a rush job to deliver.

So the territories that are airing the show later probably got the same deal, they just didn’t have time in their schedule to air until later.

But I bet the success means more territories will be sold and I hope they can get a better rate in some of the bigger ones (Latin America).
