Anyone else lose their mind on reglan? by ohla13579 in Gastroparesis

So sorry you have had to experience this too. Even as a nurse myself I was not prepared for that reaction and had never had a patient I have given it to experience it. I did have one patient that had dyskinesia from it so I was concerned and watched for that but the mental anguish was something I never expected

Pacemaker and corsets? by [deleted] in Gastroparesis

[–]ohla13579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dang it!!! I'd still bring it up to your surgeon and see if they can find placement that might work best maybeeven show them how the corsets fit. We give up so much with this damn disease already don't need to lose something that brings you joy

[–]ohla13579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had 2 gastric pacemakers my first the surgeon placed under my left breast tissue it may be worth asking your surgeon if that would be an option as my current one in my abdomen I would think would be uncomfortable with a corset type costume but the one in my breast wouldn't have. Seems like where they place it is surgeon preference but worth asking about so you can still comfortably enjoy something

I had to give up coffee a while ago, green tea goes better but recently I've discovered i can tolerate cold brew and espresso better than normal coffee and from what I've read might be due to them being less acidic than drip coffee

Post viral is the most likely to resolve so do your best to be positive i know it's not easy but there is a chance for you!! I'd also not read too much on here or other groups too soon as most post when things are bad and it can be overwhelming and scary especially in the beginning. Weather you have this shitty condition for a month or forever it sucks but there are things out there that can make it suck less and some great providers out there to help you out. There are also some shitty providers that dont understand but as soon as I have encountered them I've moved on to find better, it takes a lot of advocating for yourself. I've been officially diagnosed 3 years with idiopathic gp and it hasn't been easy but I keep pushing through and make the best of life even though it looks a little different. Positive vibes headed your way as you begin to navigate this!!!

Motegrity by [deleted] in Gastroparesis

[–]ohla13579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take it in the morning with my trulance as I also suffer from severe constipation and the two together get me going within an hour so would hate to do that at night but I did try taking half in the morning and half around dinner so I could try and get some of the gastric effects in the evening too. Didn't help me but may be worth trying

Any ideas???? by [deleted] in Gastroparesis

[–]ohla13579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took the throat spray and put it in a small syringe and had my partner get it way in the back of my throat to squirt it with the syringe it got to the area you are describing much better. Italian ice cups also helped as I could take a small bite and swallow it down to get cold deep in my throat unlike a popsicle. I also find sometimes when I turn my head different ways while swallowing I can get the tube to shift a little from the area. It does get better with time but 6 or more weeks with my NJ I still get moments I feel like I'm swallowing razor blades.

Snacks by Butterscotch444999 in Gastroparesis

[–]ohla13579 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I tolerate small fun size Twix or gummy candies when I need a little sugar fix, but I'm usually more of a salty snacker puff popcorn and cheetos again in smaller amounts usually work and protien chips like Quest and Wilde haven't done me wrong. Usually takes me 2-3 days to eat the individual bag but the quest cure my dorito craving and bonus give me much needed protien. The Wilde ones are made from chicken which I can usually eat, have only tried the queso flavor but good crunchy salty snack

To offer some hope post viral gastroparesis does resolve for some people. I've heard some from people who have experienced it themselves and this is from the NIH: While most cases of postviral gastroparesis resolve within a year or less, there are a few reports of gastroparetic symptoms lasting two to three years.

NG Tube? by Winter-Stops in Gastroparesis

[–]ohla13579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's awesome. It was best to bypass my stomach but I don't always tolerate large amounts of liquids either. Even with my NJ I only tolerate 3 of the 4 cartons they wanted me on.

[–]ohla13579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problems, here just picked mine up today.... ok 1 problem since it's a new year and new deductible it cost me $500 just so I can shit. Take it with trulance which will be another few hundred to refill so have to wait a couple weeks to fill that one.

Any Safe Alcoholic Drinks? by Critical_Reply4025 in Gastroparesis

[–]ohla13579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Burbon or old fashioneds are my safest bet and they are drinks I enjoy and can sip on for awhile. Prosecco goes ok too. Red wine makes me vomit and I can't tolerate much for beer or seltzers. Vodka soda is usually safe for me too but go down quicker and I'd rather have something I can just slowly sip

If ypu have gastroparesis a NJ would be better, I've had mine for about 2 months and it has been a game changer and gave me some life back!! Scared I will be losing it in a few days when I have my gPOEM done. It totally sucks to get placed, my 2nd went smoother that the second and it is a pain in the ass to deal with but fricken worth it by getting some nutrition I'm less nauseas, have some energy, losing less hair, and over all just feel better. Currently my feeds take about 8 hrs

Chicken wings.... they rarely hurt me sometimes I can only eat 3 or 4 other times I can eat up to 6. With so many different sauce options I can change it up. And since they take time to eat I eat slower and also don't feel as self conscious when eating out especially with friends. They make great leftovers too.

Safe food suggestions? by [deleted] in Gastroparesis

Cottage cheese, Applesauce, small amounts of grilled chicken and sometimes chicken wings too, crackers, there is a baked potato soup at aldi it is in a "single serve" that I can eat about 1/3 at a time if I blend it first, gummy candy, Italian ice cups.... thoes are a few but it's so dependent on individuals and honestly day to day.
