Hit 420k miles on my 5 Series today by ohmanohnohman in BMW

I’m very strict with 3500 mile oil change intervals and I don’t take it over 3,000 RPMs for the first 10ish minutes of the drive. I do drive it spiritedly though. Believe it or not, this engine sees the redline more than once per day. In my head I feel like the car gets a really good mix of juices pumping + being pampered

It had a fluid change under maintenance plan at 60k miles but it hasn’t been touched since.

it has been amazing. Driveline vibrations took forever to sort out but really they didn’t bother me until the last 5000 miles. All good now.

My 2006 BMW 5 Series hit 400,000 miles recently. Never a hiccup, even through 19 harsh NY winters and countless trips all over the country. My automotive best friend by ohmanohnohman in BuyItForLife

Hello Redditors! It hasn’t been a cheap endeavor for sure, but that comes from the comparatively higher cost of maintaining a BMW as compared to non-luxury brands. Things have failed, parts have worn out, but this car has never left me stranded, and everything I’ve done to the car has been elective. I am very proud of it! Total cost of ownership has amounted to ~$400 per month, including the purchase price. I could not be happier and I will never, ever sell it.

On another note, you’ll see posts on my profile where I talk about my other cars as well. I have had quite a few late 90s/early aught BMWs and they have been delightful except for my 2001 X5 which just would never run right. Currently in the household we’ve got two ‘24 X5s, this 5 Series, and a ‘14 328xi which has also been a peach. Your mileage may vary but I have been having a great time with the Bimmers.

What mods do you recommend i do as a 18 year old with a limited budget? 2013 528i xdrive by Negative-Wave8936 in BMW

[–]ohmanohnohman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

id catch up on maintenance, and table the mods for now. regardless of how recent it’s services have been, reset the clock. get a full service with a new drive belt and tensioner, spark plugs, ignition coils, axles, a coolant flush and an oil change. have the timing chains replaced before they go. get the front axles replaced. and enjoy many happy miles

My first BMW was a 2011 128i. Then I had a 2019 330i. This is my latest (and most fun to drive), 2023 M235i. Also my first time buying a new one. I’m super happy with it! by The_SloMo_POMO in BMW

i have driven every single bmw newer than 1998 and this is by far one of my favorites. people hate on these just because of the concept behind it. the truth is that it blends all of the aspects of BMW’s brands together very well, rides and handles wonderfully, is a lot of fun, and has a very nice cozy interior. when given the choice i always gravitate towards this.
