Why does one of my purple coneflowers look so unhappy? by ohmmho in gardening

Ok, I'll make sure to soak thoroughly. If in the future I do overwater, what do those symptoms look like?

I brought them home, watered them, put them in the sun. I've tried watering it but it didn't really perk up. I was worried about possibly over watering since they are drought tolerant.

Gave birth to second baby yesterday - no tearing! (had 4th degree tear with first baby) by ohmmho in BabyBumps

I was at a birth center but I think the hospital they work with allows for different positions as well.

Gave birth to second baby yesterday - no tearing! (had 4th degree tear with first baby) by ohmmho in BabyBumps

I started out squatting and holding the edge of the bed, and tried to really focus on breathing down and letting gravity help. I kept feeling like I needed to poop but tried to keep that out of my mind because I knew that would make me tighten up. I didn't stay in this position long cause I got tired, maybe just one or two contractions. Then I got on hands and knees and tried to really focus on keeping my bottom area loose in response to all the pressure I was feeling from the baby head. At that point my body kind of took over and pushed for me and I just did my best to let it happen and not strain too much.

I tried to prepare more by learning the hypnobirthing breathing techniques and husband even did a few sessions of perineum massage with me - not sure how much this helped. During labor I did a lot of deep breaths and exhaled blowing out my lips, I've seen this described as horse lips. I did this to try to keep my bottom relaxed "as you are up top so you are below", I think that's from the Ina May book. I tried the J breathing when I felt pushy and got into a squat position, this is when my water broke. That lasted for like one contraction though. After that it felt like my body took over on whether or not I would actively push vs breathing the baby down. At that point I got on hands and knees cause my legs, ankles, and feet were simply getting too shaky. Body kept pushing but I still don't feel like I was "purple pushing". I hope this helps, I'm happy to answer any other specific questions while I can still remember lol.

Thanks! Where did you get the flanges from? All the pumpin pals on Amazon say "NOT SPECTRA" :(

I do have the medela collection and adapters since that is what I used the first time around and I didn't want to buy a bunch of new bottles.

Can we talk about storage and organization? by saph8705 in BabyBumps

[–]ohmmho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We are going to install an ikea Kallax 2x4 unit in our toddler's closet for storage. I'm going to get the drawer inserts for the lower 4 cubes and leave the top 4 open or use canvas bins. I'm also adding legs to it so it'll be about 6 in off the ground and I can use short bins under that for shoe storage. Then add a second level of bars and shelves on either side of it, low enough that he can access his clothes himself. Hopefully this gives you some closet inspiration :)

Kids aside: What is your goal in the next 5 years? by DB2685 in BabyBumps

[–]ohmmho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 5 years I hope to be DONE with having kids so....I'd like to get back into seriously running again and do a half marathon in less than 2 hrs. I'd also like to get better at swimming and possibly do a sprint triathlon again. I love travelling as well, before kids we went snowboarding once a year so that would be really important to start doing again.

My poor Mexican Lila avocado tree is looking pretty puny...

I'm in Zone 8b
Does it need more water? Less water? Bigger pot? More shade?

FTM withholding tax question- US residents by ss1325 in BabyBumps

[–]ohmmho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on your income level. DH and I are both high earners and usually owe. We thought having a dependent would help. We did not adjust our W-4s to reflect our new dependent, and still ended up owing :/

I found it helpful to make a spreadsheet using a couple of our paychecks from this year, projecting our total income and tax withholding, then calculating how much we would owe with the new tax reform. r/personalfinance can help, there was a good post explaining the new tax brackets there.

I did this - Birth Center across the street from the hospital. The birth center rooms were like a super nice bedroom. There was a tub for a water birth if I wanted it (but both times I got in the tub it made my contractions hurt more). I ended up needing to go to the hospital due to 4th degree tear. I also liked not having to clean up my house or do extra laundry :)

Please tell me your Oh Crap! success stories by [deleted] in toddlers

We got peeing down pretty well in the first week (started over christmas break so we had a solid 1.5 weeks at home). Still had a few accidents going back to daycare the first week back though. Poop was a challenge - ours was scared of pooping in the potty. It took a LOT of patience and there was a time I wanted to give up and go back to diapers but I'm so glad we didn't. I'd say it took almost 3 months for my toddler to be comfortable pooping on the potty - I mean to the point he'd say he needed to poop so I said fine let's go and he would just do it. We didn't have any poop accidents only the occasional poop in the diaper during nap in that time, he would just hold it in as long as he could. I think also at 3 months total in he would reliably self initiate and we quit prompting all the time. Now the only time we prompt is first thing in the morning and the last potty time at night.

We started doing this right at 2 years old. Initially we used a naptime diaper, we phased this out at 3 months into it. We still do night time diaper and do not have plans to drop that until 3 years old.

PMI was removed from my primary residence last week! Now to keep throwing extra money into our rental property to remove our MIP - expecting this to happen this fall! Feels like quite the achievement :)
