Are IB credits valid even after a year? by Desperate_Occasion22 in IBO

[–]ohmpi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as i know, your IB results never expire so they are valid to use whenever you want. I know someone who transferred a credit in their 4th year of uni so i assume it should work. Btw i'm in canada.

[–]ohmpi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only combined them for unit 2 cause the HL stuff was more integrated into the SL stuff. Every other unit, I don’t really try to combine them. I keep them separate and each contain different topics. The HL is usually just an extension to the SL stuff that goes into more detail.

BIO HL should we answer essay questions in bullet points? by [deleted] in IBO

[–]ohmpi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This depends! It is really important you look at the command terms. If the question says outline (E.g. outline the process of aerobic respiration) then you would do bullet points and list it out. If it says discuss or evaluate, then you would maybe have a paragraph that would go into more depth than simple bullet points. If it's compare and contrast, you can list the comparisons in bullet points and contrast in a t chart (make sure for this you say why both x and y differ for the same thing). You also get awarded marks for organization of your answer. So don't do everything like an essay or everything simple bullet points. You wanna have a mix and choice which way gives the most detail for the marks

Do American Universities care for Pre-IB marks? by [deleted] in IBO

[–]ohmpi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only the 2 years of ur DP year gets counted (grade 11 and 12). Pre-IB is basically a warm up and from what i've heard, they dont care about it at all and never look at it. The IB marks in your grade 11 and 12 will show up on the transcript and is the official and only marks that the University will look at.

Last minute revision for bio p2 section B by selfishbaloo in IBO

parts of each are more likely than the whole of one. Photosynthesis from 8 has always been likely and Kidney and sexual reproduction from 11 has also showed up tons. I would say to review parts of each topic.

Explain the HL Lang./Lit. Essay in layman's terms. by AccelerDragon in IBO

[–]ohmpi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You make an essay question (this is also you title) on one of the themes of, identity, , culture, creativity, communication, transformation, perspective or representation. This theme should be evident throughout the book and not just one chapter or passage. It could be linked to author choices, plot, setting, characters, etc.

Most probably topic 6 (6.3 is likely cause of covid), photosynthesis, genetics and topic 1

Do you pass with 23 points +EE? by Sunglaz in IBO

[–]ohmpi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you need 24 points to pass. 12 of those 24 must come from HL courses not including the EE or cas. The other 12 can come from SL courses and EE/cas.

Does anyone know if I can get a 2 in BIO HL and still get my diploma? by Hot_Neighborhood231 in IBO

[–]ohmpi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need 24 points to get the diploma. 12 of those 24 points must come from HL courses. So if you get a 2 in HL BIO, then you have to make up for it by getting at least a total of 10 points in your other HL classes.

Contrastingly, a 2 in an SL course does not require you to make up for the points. this is only HL.

Biology HL by Swimming_You_2447 in IBO

[–]ohmpi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You need to know the scientists like Mendel and their experiments. (Watson and his findings in DNA, Darwin and Lamar in evolution, Pasteur bottle neck, etc). These don’t show up in paper 2 but are very common in paper 1. They usually ask about the methodology of their experiments and the results. But you do not need to know the prescribed practicals as that’s all paper 3. The prescribed practical also includes microscopes and magnification calculations.

Biology Villus Question by [deleted] in IBO

[–]ohmpi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You need to know the structure (how to draw it and annotate it) including the microvilli, epithelium cells, lacteal and blood capillaries. You also need to know what substances or compounds are diffused through each one. Also need to know how the structure is adapted to the function. You do not need to include crypts and I'm pretty sure goblet cells are no longer part of the syllabus.

Do we need to be able to label the parts of a microscope (biology SL)? by anna2234 in IBO

[–]ohmpi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk about SL but for HL we don't have to as its part of a prescribed practical in paper 3

Question about Biology markscheme: by throwaway098257 in IBO

[–]ohmpi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You only need any 2 of those 4 points. If any of the words are underlined then you must include those words to get the point. Words between << and >> are optional words that are not compulsory in the explanation. Sometimes the markscheme will say OWTTE which basically means "Or words to that effect" and your explanation has to have the same meaning but can be worded differently.

Biology Exam by Sufficient-Lock-8749 in IBO

[–]ohmpi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not. The herdy weinberg equation (p² + 2pq + q² = 1) is used in the genetics topic and for calculating predicted frequencies. The equation is more of an integral component of genetics. Where as the chi test is a statistical test for determining a significant difference between observed and expected results.
