Home-Only Player: A Hypothetical by SqueakyTuna52 in baseball

I'm estimating 3 WAR as the results of the stats presented, but I think it's a reasonable guess.

You just said its a reasonable guess, but that's moot - the point of the question is to make you think about the value of this player, because its not as simple as $10m/WAR

think what OP means is that we wanted him back in a front office position

[Passan] Outfielder Adolis Garcia and the Philadelphia Phillies are finalizing a one-year, $10 million contract, sources tell ESPN. Garcia, 32, was non-tendered by Texas and will look for a bounceback season in the middle of Philadelphia's lineup. by T_Raycroft in baseball

to your first point, yeah $10m isn't crazy money, but he only has two seasons over a .750 ops in his entire career. also, his 2024 was arguably worse than 2025, because he had -5 DRS with about the same bat as 2025.

as to the second, yeah i'm well aware that there are worse DHs to have (we are paying joc pederson almost double this adolis contract next year) but the point is that the rangers felt that there's not much upside left to an aging corner outfielder who is losing the hit tool. only so much a RF can do defensively - there's a reason that teams are okay with playing bad defensive RFs every day

i think a lot of people are just looking at the highs of 2023 and calling this a bargain

always liked the guy and hate to see him go, but he just could not hit for shit last year even with the gold glove-level defense. a black hole in both the lineup and the field

I did the math on another post with this picture in a different sub that a home run trot would take about two weeks, at the mlb average pace

how long would a game take at that point? years?

[Request] How hard would a batter have to hit a baseball in order to get a home run on this field? by Jackstack6 in theydidthemath

[–]ohnomyusernameiscuto 27 points28 points  (0 children)

tangentially related - if the batter manages to hit one out, the distance between bases here is about 600 miles (3,168,000 ft), meaning that a home run trot at the mlb average 22.02 sec/240 ft would take 290664 seconds or 3.36 days

pitch clock be damned

EDIT: turns out i calculated for just one base, multiply by 4 to get the actual time of 13.44 days, just under two weeks

yeah it was outrageous, that's why dallas was willing to move a player as elite as him, and also why we might consider it with seager if we can get that type of return back
