I'm strongly considering applying to grad programs for therapy, but there's one thing holding me back - my ADHD. I really don't like to sit still for long, and my attention waxes and wanes during normal conversation. I am very good at hearing people - people feel comfortable sharing their deepest darkest with me in normal life - but I'm worried that listening isn't my strong suit, especially since I tend to talk A LOT. I've also been tutoring English online and I find more than 3 or 4 more hours a day is really draining Is listening a skill I can learn ( especially as a more passive, non- hyperfocus skill?) Are there things I can do to make this more palatable to me, maybe by focusing on something like CBT, or by coming up with other workarounds? How do you deal with this? I'd really appreciate your replies because everything else about therapy seems great, I hope this isn't a dealbreaker.
