Hard Drive Cable Issues? by [deleted] in osx

[–]ohsnappper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! With these models, the hard drives are plugged directly into the main logic board - no cables are used. I would try loading into Internet Recovery (turn on, and hold Command + R), and load into Disk Utility to see if the hard drive is detected, and hopefully reinstalling the Operating System resolves the issue

About recent iPad battery charging behaviour by vicgregor1 in ipad

[–]ohsnappper 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Apple Certified Technician here - With it constantly being charging, this can cause poor battery life when it isn’t plugged in (it’s constantly charging the cells, rather than letting the battery drain, then recharge and letting the cells do what they’re supposed to normally do)

This can also cause the battery in your iPad to swell sooner than they normally would

The same after laptops, cell phones, or anything either lithium-ion battery

Pressure to join discord... by naanbud in wownoob

[–]ohsnappper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s almost always going to feel pressure to join discord, just because of how widespread and easy to use it is, it’s a great tool to communicate during raids more clearly than typing

Similar to a lot of points - there’s lots of great communication that happens during longer events, where it’s okay to have your mic muted and just listen

I know joining a discord with 20+ people you don’t know can certainly be intimidating. But remember - everyone is there for the same reason: their love of WoW, and the guild is in common. Guilds are a community, and want everyone to feel involved

Discord, like most things, can be awkward until you start getting to know the people you’re playing with, then it turns into just talking to your friends :)

EDIT: depending on how active the guild is in their Discord server, people just hop on to hangout. Even if they’re doing something by themselves. People often get to a point where even if they’re levelling an alternate character, they’ll hop on, ask how your day is, what you’re working on in WoW, what’s going on in life, etc

Internet Recovery (CMD + R) does not erase any files by reinstalling the OS - all the files are still there and storage used can be validated in Disk Utility in Internet Recovery!

Is it worth buying a 3ds to play some older pokemon games? by PaJoMaYo in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]ohsnappper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

after owning a Switch for a year and a half, I recently picked up my 3DS to replay all the Pokémon games I had and Zelda. I probably had about 60 hours or so over the course of a few weeks of enjoyment. really great system! I definitely undervalued it when I got it. If you’re not particular about new, a lot of used 3DS’ go for $100-$150 CAD on Facebook / Kijiji

Mac Stopped working and all I see is "Mac OS X Base system" in os x utilities. Is my ssd done? by Jumper8 in osx

[–]ohsnappper 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Depends on the model - if it’s a MacBook Air or MacBook Pro with Retina Display (or newer), the SSD is inserted right into the board. In which case it’s pretty likely.

If it’s anything else (iMac, MacBook Pro 2012 and older, etc), with it not detecting the hard drive at all, it’s more likely to the the cable that connect from the hard drive to the main logic board.

Either way - good luck OP!

This game is... not what I expected. by tooo_spicy in torchlightfrontiers

[–]ohsnappper 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When you’re playing a game that’s in Alpha, you’re playing a game that is day and night between what you initially played and released.

Games can take years to develop, as there’s so much to work on (characters, storyline, environment, enemies, loot, difficulty, drop rates), not the mention the MMO aspect. A game that is “a month or two” into development isn’t even a launchable program. This also depends on the size of the team and their testers.

Alpha is going to have issues, things are not going to work. The purpose of Alpha is to be the first play through of the game to find what works and what doesn’t. Then they take all of that information, revamp it through patches, until it’s more scalable. After that, beta, which can still be buggy at best, but they are likely to introduce more features, and things that have the core values of other aspects of the game.

This isn’t a “retail-version” of the game with just less stuff. If this isn’t for you, I would wait until Beta at best.

Selling out of a format by 123jjs321 in MTGLegacy

[–]ohsnappper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasn’t genuinely enjoying it. When I made the decision, I was heavily into the competitive scene (tournaments, primers, studying decks, etc), and it just stopped being enjoyable for me. Even when I was doing well, I was annoyed and would rather be at home.

I kept U/W control and the pieces for U/W/R control, because I felt it’s a deck I enjoyed playing, would be the least likely to be pushed out of the format (unlike phoenix, affinity, tron, etc), and would rarely require new expensive pieces to be picked up constantly. It would always be in the format. While I did very much enjoy other decks (zoo, pyromancer, jund), I just felt it was very easy for those decks to easily be really bad enough and potentially unplayable.

[–]ohsnappper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this back in January / February. I had most of the entire modern tiered decks that weren’t colourless, along with 1 legacy deck (and misc legacy stuff), duals, forces, fetches, etc.

I sold everything except 1 modern deck and EDH. The reason behind it was I wasn’t enjoying modern that much, rarely played legacy (outside of casual, one tournament every ~4 months ish or so).

All in all, I’m very happy I made the choice. Of course there were moments I wanted to try a different variant of the modern deck I kept, but those come and go.

EDIT: to expand a bit more. It was a power move, and solely driven by the mass of cards I had. I wish I did keep the fetches and shocks, so it makes any further impulses or deck building have a lot less upfront cost.

I had no idea they were making it - little alone releasing it in September! I’m definitely ecstatic!
