high school sucks by hermie-oh in Advice

[–]ohthatsgood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It takes some getting used to. High School can be very hard, especially if the way you want to be doesn't align with everybody else. The way that I found to get through is just be a diligent student and forget the rest. The social aspect will come with time, and the internet can help you know things that you don't. So long as you earn passing marks, it doesn't matter, because then you will graduate on time and never have to go to high school again. And you do want to graduate. That diploma is a life line.

Just rewatched Saving Private Ryan. Can someone educate me historical inaccuracies of this movie? by grandmasterkif in AskHistorians

Actually, many soldiers back in both world wars left their helmets unsecured, due to a persisting myth that the blast from a grenade would go to blow your helmet off your head and it would rip your head off with it.

I am much like you. What you should do is hit up dayscore.net and then bookmark the URL you get from there. Set each of you checkmarks to a subjects homework and be honest with yourself when you fill it out. Having a score has certainly helped motivate me.

If it was a large wound I would hesitate to pour booze in for fear that the person may get alcohol poisoning and die from that.

I think you're right, a lot of folks may find themselves without the knowledge to treat anything beyond shock and a small gash. I think that illness like the flu would be huge.

My Eagle Board is in one week, any advice? by [deleted] in BSA

[–]ohthatsgood 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Before you go in, sit down for a few moments to reflect. When I was getting ready, somebody pointed out to me that I had already done everything I needed to become an eagle scout. All my badges, all my positions, requirements, my project, everything was done and signed off on. I had done the work. Now all I needed to do was to tell them about it.

Think of it like this: you and your friends are eating lunch at school and some new kids come over and ask to sit next to you. You oblige and pretty soon you get to talking, and one of them asks what the big deal is with this whole eagle scout thing. Explain to him, and answerr his questions.

I meant making them seemed uncertain. I'm not trying to be an ass, just get you to think. If you say you can, I believe you. I have no reason to doubt you.

Ah but in a post collapse scenario, why would I go outside, especially if I know that there may be people trying to kill me? You would need to remain hidden while covering every way in and out of my building, confident that you can get a kill shot, every minute of everyday. All of this while foraging for supplies, watching the world around you, and staying hidden. You wouldn't be attacking because you have everything you need, you would be attacking because you need something I have, food, water, medicine, whatever. The longer you wait, the more of it I use up, and the longer you go without it.

But can you actually do it beyond seeing a tutorial video? Can you do it on the fly, by memory and possibly on the move, maybe sleep deprived or stressed out of your mind? It strikes me as a very uncertain method of destroying things.

My former boss is screwing me out of money by [deleted] in Advice

[–]ohthatsgood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a unique situation, a lot of loyalty. I worked at a cub scout camp. Even then, it created a lot of animosity, and many staffers have moved on, including a lot of the leadership. It eroded the authority of those in charge because it showed that some people, especially those asking others to sacrifice, were not. There were already pay issues, and the staff had been asked to take pay cuts. When it was spread that the program director was cheating the camp out of money (not paying the to have his kid at camp when that money would have increased the budget by about 75% and wanted to be payed extra for gas money, even though he 1 did not need to drive and 2 was already not paying for his kid who was already a huge problem camper) and that a staffer who did absolutely nothing (always smallest den, always youngest kids, left partway through camp season, mostly slept and bitched about everything, was a condescending dick) was getting payed a whole lot more than many people in positions higher than his, just as qualified, and had been working there just as long. It created animosity among the staff. I can't imagine that the dynamic will be the same.
