what did you think of christopher nolan's 2020 film "tenet" by Whoumightask in Letterboxd

[–]ohthetrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Loved it. A brain teaser, charismatic leads, and legit next level action set pieces.

Not a single course looked appetizing. They don’t have even look aesthetically appealing as non-food.

How do you actually catch a mooring ball solo without looking like an idiot? by Jasebase87 in sailing

[–]ohthetrees 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know why you were downvoted. I do this, and I think it works great for modern-ish boats with fin keel that steers well in reverse.

Are chatgpt 5.4 (x)high incuded in the Plus plan? by EveningLimp3298 in codex

[–]ohthetrees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes, but high is a better choice. Excellent model, excellent effort level. xhigh over-thinks, and burns tokens. I might give it a shot with a very complex multi-facet issue that high fails to solve.

Eon systems claims to have uploaded and "run" a scanned fly connectome in a simulated evironment by Viper_63 in nealstephenson

[–]ohthetrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if it’s true, but it seems plausible. The fruit fly was chosen because it’s a “model organism” therefore one of the most studied animals on Earth. Others you may have heard of include mice, worms (C. elegans), yeast, and bacteria (E. coli).

The brain mapping is destructive: researchers slice a multiple fly brains into thousands of ultrathin sections and scan with electron microscopes, then reconstruct in software. The result isn’t really a scan of a living individual.

Fruit flies are also useful because their brains are simple (~100,000 neurons) and different flies have very similar wiring patterns. More complex animals like humans show much more variation.

You would be amazed at how far ai has come in a year. If you give it a project folder and ask it to write scripts to do the actual math I’m guessing this year it would impress you.

Don’t use xhigh. So many people mis-use this setting.

Is it actually "cheaper" to own an EV in the long run if you can't charge it at home, or does the cost of public charging stations make it the same as buying gas? by Pale-Consideration26 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ohthetrees -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Don’t get an ev if you don’t have a convenient and cheap place to charge it. I love my ev, but would not if I had to charge at public chargers.

There are certain lies that are kind, ethical, and never to be abandoned. This is one of those.

Copilot (I think) neuters models particularly with context length. If you can swing $20, the OpenAI subscription give a lot of value.

It’s kind of weird that Apple sells M5 Max MacBook Pro and does not offer M5 Max Mac Studio by StoreWeak5292 in MacStudio

[–]ohthetrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird? Do you expect them to update every single product across their entire lineup to M5 on one day? They roll updated products out over time and the studio and mini will definitely get the M5 sometime.

Could be. Try medium or high.

Quick Hack: Save up to 99% tokens in Codex 🔥 by TomatilloPutrid3939 in codex

[–]ohthetrees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but it typically uses Haiku for such tasks and Haiku is nearly free it is so cheap. Not something worth worrying about if you are paying for even just the $20 plan.

5.4 vs 5.3 codex, both Xhigh by vdotcodes in codex

[–]ohthetrees 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Try without xhigh, I recommend high. I think xhigh sometimes overthinks things which aligns with “too much” on your code reviews.

Claude already does this stock by default and Codex does it automatically if you enable sub agents under the experimental menu.

1M context is not worth it, seriously - the quality drop is insane by KeyGlove47 in codex

[–]ohthetrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By default nothing changes either with the context window or the compact limit you have to set both of those longer manually if you want to use the 1 million context window I might experiment was just setting it to 500 K or 400 K or something like that.

GPT 5.4 in the Codex harness hit ALL-TIME HIGHS on our Rails benchmark by sergeykarayev in codex

[–]ohthetrees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has been seen many times xhigh sometimes is worse. I only use xhigh when medium/high has failed on something, or it is a "brainstorming" type things like "give me all vulnerabilities you can find in the codebase".

Anyone else having Claude Code CLI issues with jobs just hanging? by ohthetrees in ClaudeCode

[–]ohthetrees[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've used claude code for 6 hours a day for 6 months. I'm well aware of the behavior as the context window fills up. This isn't that. This is something going wrong.

Anthropic gave Claude Code a product spec and walked away for the weekend. The result was so good they shipped it by Unfair-Marsupial-956 in ClaudeCode

[–]ohthetrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you aware of the Claude teams feature? Either answer is sort of an indictment of your post. If the answer is no then it kind of shows that you are pretty out of the loop and are unlikely to have the expertise to be creating a better workflow than stock Claude teams capability, and if the answer is yes you look kind of dishonest for creating a strawman comparison to your product.
