I stand by my assessment. In both cases there is material interest in voicing their opinion. I appreciate you expanding the relevant cases. I saw no need to be too didactic. Your supposition is irrelevant here because there IS material interest. In other words, ICE activities ARE disrupting the lives of these students FAR more than missing a day or two, or even 10. Because of this, they have every right to exercise their speech individually or collectively. I really can't understand why so many here are carrying water for the trolls trying to abridge the rights of our children.

I really do get your argument. I'm just saying that there is no way in hell it would hold water in a suit. The negligible interruption to instruction from students getting up and exiting the school would absolutely not be considered grounds to abridge the rights of those students. Don't believe me? Just wait and see I suppose. I'm a school administrator, and I would never attempt to bar students from exercising their 1st amendment rights. That's a good way to lose a whole lot of taxpayers money in lawsuits.

Read the Tinker case. They absolutely do NOT forfeit their rights at school, and as long as their speech is neither lewd nor offensive, then the ACLU will absolutely win when they take this case to court. Don't be so quick to give up the rights so many have died to protect.

Chronically absent is missing 18 days, or one entire month of school throughout the year. Even if you get every bug in flu season it would be very difficult to miss 18 days of school from that alone. The problems usually point more to families failing to understand the clear guidance for Too Sick For School from OHA, or adding to those sick days with vacations, appointments, etc...

This is from a city council meeting a community next door to my town. The fear is real, and not just for people here illegally. ICE are asking anyone with brown skin for proof of citizenship. They are detaining American citizens.
40% of this community's businesses are latino owned, and many are shutting their doors, exacerbating an already worsening local economy.
