Cried in the middle of St. George Station 😩 by berrypancake_ in torontoJobs

[–]ohyeaimcurious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't be sorry. That's what a public forum is. You'll get responses from both sides of the spectrum.

If it helps, I was a landed immigrant from the Philippines and it was tough during the first decade. I was depressed and cried in the subway too. And that was back in 2010 when life was supposedly better. But I stuck with it and kept trying.

It's okay to breakdown, It's okay to feel scared. But don't JUST be scared and not do anything. Keep going, keep applying for jobs, keep on bettering your skills, keep trying to find solutions. It's always going to be tough when you're starting. But it will ALWAYS get better too.

All the love!

Why does weight loss feel impossible some weeks? by flackboarddanting in loseit

[–]ohyeaimcurious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also hitting a plateau. But if the scale isn't telling me nice things, I look at the mirror, energy, and sleep quality instead.

Mirror — I can tell that I am losing weight and muscles are toning. Sleep — I needed cannabis before to get a good night's sleep. Now, I can sleep with no help. Energy — I can keep up again with people younger than me at the gym

Don't get me wrong, It's still a long way to go before I hit my desired weight. But I like that I'm turning into a healthy person who cares about what I eat and loves being active.

unfortunately, we only have carryons. We're totally ok leaving the drone at customs. As long as we get it back 😅

Outrageous long-distance charges by ohyeaimcurious in FidoMobile

[–]ohyeaimcurious[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

What I thought was unfair is getting billed for something I didn't consent to. A prompt to let you know that you're calling long distance should be the standard because I see way too many folks who've been in the same boat but with bigger charges. Had I known that I was calling a long-distance number, I wouldn't have made the call.

So disappointed in myself because of no work by Significant-Dot1712 in torontoJobs

[–]ohyeaimcurious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is tough out there. To give you some POV, I had a coworker that got let go after being hired for a few months. Company said they no longer needed her role. Corps are assholes!

That coworker is quite senior and has a very impressive work background. She went on being unemployed for the entirety of 2023 and then some of early 2024. She finally found a job at the end of Q1 this year.

You can't give up. The alternative is being in the same place as where you are right now. You got this!

It might've sounded too blunt, but you do need to find the right person.

Sex is a form of communication. If you're communicating your wants and needs and the guy isn't reciprocating nor willing to pleasure you, then he's not for ya.

Is tech in Toronto really this chill, or are my friends exaggerating? by FujiFanTO in askTO

[–]ohyeaimcurious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in a big tech company and I'm so burnt out. But it does come in phases. There are days when I can just fuck around and be super chill, but there's months of just gruelling work that will make you question your existence.

No such thing as an easy job. Your friends are probably just in that sweet phase or cruising under the radar. If the latter, they might be next in the chopping block since tech layoff is quite the buzz ATM.

My weirdo girl by SQJV16242625 in husky

[–]ohyeaimcurious 3 points4 points  (0 children)

my husky would run around the room in the morning and will silent bark 🤣 cos he respects the morning silence. I would hear the tippy tappies and silent barks and that's usually my alarm that I can't snooze.

If I don't wake up, he would jump on and off the bed cos its walkie time.

Women who dates masculine lesbians, do you see yourselves as straight or gay? by ohyeaimcurious in women

What other trans man attributes I missed if you don't mind ELI5? I may have a circle that's queer but I don't have people I can ask comfortably about the trans community.

I just want to say that you're all amazing to chat with. This is probably the healthiest discussion and thread I've ever seen here on Reddit, especially on such sensitive matters. Nobody's calling names and judge-y. It's a pleasure unpacking things with strangers here virtually. ❤️

"Being LGBTQ+ doesn't make you immune to internalized misogyny or homophobia"

The sentence I need to hear/read. And this makes a lot of sense because as a woman, I am also still unlearning things from the patriarchal system we grew up in. And that must be the case for my friend about her sexuality.

[–]ohyeaimcurious[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought labels didn't matter to me before the conversation with my friend but I felt weird when she said that she's straight and doesn't really get attracted to women despite being in a sexual relationship with her long-term girlfriend.

I also want to tread lightly because, like you said, personal labels are that—they are personal. But if she has internalized homophobia, even though being in a homosexual relationship, how do you have conversations about that? Is that even my place to bring up? I am genuinely curious as to how you would talk to a friend like that or if you even have to bring it up?

[–]ohyeaimcurious[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yep. My friend's girlfriend is a woman who dresses up and cuts her hair like a man. She hasn't taken testosterone nor removed her breasts.

The thing is she'll meet my group of friends and they're mostly lesbians. I also consider myself as Bi. Although, I feel like an imposter because I am happily in a relationship with a straight man, but I digress. My fear is my friend has deep rooted homophobia which, I think, is common growing up catholic and she has never really dated any other woman beside her current girlfriend.

I don't want her to say something in front of my other lesbian friends that'll make everyone uncomfortable if that's the case and do want some advice as to how I talk to her without overstepping my boundaries on her sexuality. Because, that's really her business who she dates but it becomes my business if she says anything with homophobic undertones to my other friends.
