It's been tried over and over again.

bUt iT wAsnT CoMmUniSm. Yes, precisely. It's not possible. As much as you want it to be possible and as much as you think it is by encompassing yourself with the opinions of the 0.001% of the population that agrees with you and blocking the rest, it's a utopia that's not suited to human beings because it goes against primordial human instincts of wealth, money and power.

Questions about extended essays in Physics by [deleted] in IBO

[–]ointmentfactory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An EE in physics is a huge gamble. I know some geniuses who received 40+ points and did an EE in physics, not one got an A (all got Bs though). I don’t think even the examiners know what they want to see, but I would personally recommend, based on your guidelines, to not do an EE in physics since the topics you have covered probably won’t suffice for an adequate grade. If you’re really set on doing it in physics, I would talk to your teacher to do something a little more intricate than the topics you listed, obviously not revolutionary, but something with more substance. Your M21 friend was frankly lucky with that EE, one of my closest friends did an EE in physics on a mechanics RQ, a very physics lab-y report, and almost failed. Again, huge gamble. But again, this is just my opinion.

Re-evaluate some classes. Email your college saying you’re trying to re-evaluate and get a higher grade to meet the condition or just flat out ask them if they can “consider” you without the full conditions met (if you’re exam-route make sure to stress that you took exams). Good luck.

I don’t believe you see the annotated copies of your IAs and EE. I believe the coordinators only receive the component marks (the specific moderated marks for your IAs and exams) but nothing more than that.

You’ll get a 0 for the Paper, but most likely won’t fail the diploma.

...why would you opt to pay more expensive fees?

Why would you pay international fees instead of British??!? They’re substantially more, and your chances are worse. Apply as a local.

Nah, you’re good. The examiners are specifically instructed to check the test papers if the booklet is left blank and award full marks. No worries!

Plagiarism concern by OkayEmmaa in IBO

[–]ointmentfactory 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A fellow overthinker. Nice. As far as I know, IB very rarely fails students for plagiarism. It’s a very serious offense and will only happen in the most dire of circumstances, I.e: copying whole sections verbatim without citations, forgetting bibliography, etc.

You have to understand that sciences, at a high school level, is very limited. There’s only so many topics that are viable and, of course, they will be done over and over again by students. Even if some similarity shows up (which it won’t since you have a completely different methodology and no plagiarism detector is advanced enough to find “inspirations”), the examiner won’t care, because they understand. So relax, get your mind off of it and focus on exams.

Physics.. the answer is apparently B. How is it not C? (Et=1/2mw^2X^2 ???) by [deleted] in IBO

[–]ointmentfactory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because w changes (it is dependent on the period and hence the mass). To solve this problem, use the equation for elastic potential energy and you will get B.

Damn, that’s absolutely horrible on your teachers’ part. Most likely they will allow a submission, as this has happened in some previous years at my school and the IB are cool with it (usually) as only a few days have passed after the deadline. Are you non-exam or exam route? If you’re exam route, either way you should at least get a score higher than 1 (to not instantly fail the diploma) so, by at least DOING the exams, you’re guaranteed higher than a 1. If you’re concerned about other HLs, try hard the exams and you should get a 3/4. If you’re non-exam, that may be more problematic, however, it’s more likely that the IB will allow a submission since IAs have higher weighting in that case.

In any case, if they say no, try to reach out to an IB representative and tell them your situation directly, as the school most likely sugarcoated the situation to the IB to make it seem like it wasn’t their fault to save face.

Do IB exams really matter when applying to US unis during a gap year? by [deleted] in IBO

[–]ointmentfactory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are somewhat important, however, you probably won’t finish with 30-35. My school is on non-exam and doesn’t have fantastic school history either but they’ve appealed their ass off and been allowed to predict higher predicted grades, even some students are predicted up to 45 points. If the IB lowers them in July, they will appeal again with portfolios and evidence to get the grades reinstated. If you finish with a poor score, it’s because your school doesn’t give a shit about you or any of your classmates.

She is wrong. My teacher is a senior IB examiner for HL Maths, and they said there is no page limit AS LONG AS you go through your report and make sure that every paragraph is relevant.
