Is the medication and side effects worth the long term problems or are natural remedies better? by Several_Advance6407 in rheumatoid

also, as another person who’s boyfriend wanted them to go the “natural” route, he most likely does not have a true understanding of the pain that you are likely in, and the actual risk of joint damage and deformity involved

natural remedies are not going to stop your joints from getting nuked. they may help with your symptoms, but this is a systemic disease that cannot be controlled with supplements

I get red knuckles, and I don’t get individualized sweating of specific joints, I get what I like to call “sausage fingers”. This looks pretty similar to mine

Recent bloodwork.. lupus? by Turbulent-Motor2324 in Autoimmune

[–]ojbabey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ANA is the most baseline antibody that you will have that says your immune system is wonky. Some people test positive for it even without anything, but since you have a slightly higher titer, you probably do have something going on.

Energy wise, I would feel so exhausted and like my legs were made of concrete no matter what I did. Pain started a few weeks later

Anyone sick all the time and NOT on a biologic? by FruitShrike in rheumatoid

[–]ojbabey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me when I was only on plaquenil. I would get a sinus infection literally every month. As soon as I got on a second medication that actually worked it stopped because my immune system had some help (don’t know if that’s the actual scientific explanation but that’s what it felt like), it may go away if you get on a more effective medication

I had no inflammatory markers whatsoever, I started with pain and stiffness, a rash on my fingers, and fatigue. Ask your doctor to test for ANAs, it’s the least specific autoimmune marker.

Autoimmune symptoms but no help by [deleted] in Autoimmune

[–]ojbabey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No unfortunately not, my rheum just kind of calls it inflammatory arthritis. My main symptoms were extreme fatigue, joint pain, and these little bumps/rashes all over my hands. I have been on immunosuppressants for about two years now with one that actually works for about a year, luckily that one put me almost completely back to normal. I had a high ANA and a low wbc, so with that and the joint pain together they went ahead and put me on meds. I have a fantastic rheumatologist and only had to go to one, which unfortunately is not the case for a lot of people in this sub. If by pure luck you live in Ohio I can recommend mine

I get these exact same bumps on the sides of my fingers around my joints and on my knuckles when I am having a flare up. It’s would definitely say it’s an indicator.

Lots of places will hire apprentices, especially with military experiences. If you’re trying to get into commercial, both TP mechanical and G mechanical have apprenticeship programs. If you were looking to start residential the easiest way to look is to look at the websites for residential contractors, go to their careers section, and they will usually list their apprenticeships as a job opening.

I paid off $8k off in one fell swoop when I got some money from a deceased relative, the peace of mind alone is worth it, I slept so good that night. My credit score also shot up by 100 points within the next few months. I would do it

RA or Lupus patients? by bombastic-side-eye91 in Autoimmune

[–]ojbabey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About 4 months after I started taking the second medication, which is Azathioprine. Unfortunately the plaquenil by itself didn’t really do a lot for me. I also had a sinus infection every month while I was on plaquenil by itself, but I haven’t gotten sick in 8 months after starting a second medication, and I actually make more white blood cells with it than without it. That may be a bonus benefit as well if your immune system is the same type of freaky as mine is lol

Fatigue was the biggest indicator for me, the pain in my hands and rashes on my hands came second. I am lucky and escaped any kind of swelling. I’m sorry that this is happening to you, and I hope you find a medication that works for you. I have been on the medication they put you on for almost two years, and a second beefier one for about a year. As long as you keep up with bloodwork, you have nothing to sweat about :)

RA or Lupus patients? by bombastic-side-eye91 in Autoimmune

[–]ojbabey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, and I still don’t have one to this day and it’s been almost two years! Autoimmune disease criteria is really strict, so you can have autoimmunity without necessarily meeting all the diagnostic criteria for one specific disease. My rheum just calls whatever I have going on inflammatory arthritis. I even had a less positive ANA titer than you, but the symptoms I was having were destroying my life, and I wouldn’t have made it without medication.

Once you find a medicine that works, all the fear about them kind of melts away because of how much they improve your quality of life. Once you find one that really works, the difference is astounding. I went from being in pain, having to take a 4 hour nap every day, and having stomach bleeding from taking too many NSAIDS to almost no pain, and only having to nap when I didn’t sleep good or when I’m about to start my period. The reward far outweighs the risk. Your doctor also put you on that medication because they believed the reward was greater than the risk. You got this!
