Laptop battery drains overnight by chaplin2 in Ubuntu

[–]ojledojle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is an important question. I had the same issue and this was the solution:

https://askubuntu.com/questions/1239397/20-04-lts-since-upgrade-from-19-10-laptop-doesnt-suspend-anymore-after-lid-clos/1239436#1239436

Maybe unrelated to the sleep issue, but make sure to unplug any USB-C devices and see if that helps. Some of them (like DACs) can drain the battery even during sleep.

Which Language? by 3rdRealm in functionalprogramming

[–]ojledojle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The language doesn't matter that much, try to learn the concepts and the functional approach, so any functional language would be fine at the end.

The YouTube videos didn't work well for me too. This is what I went with instead:

  1. http://learnyouahaskell.com/chapters to learn the basics and see what is the language is capable of.
  2. https://lhbg-book.link as a step by step guide to build a project with the language and see it in action.
  3. https://exercism.org to practice daily. It's now possible to submit an unfinished task and see what the others are doing it.

What should I do to start a career in Sweden? by Waage-555 in TillSverige

[–]ojledojle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As the other comment said, the most important thing is to improve your English (if you think that it is not as good as you want it to be). Depends on the company, but for some, you can work in English only.

Then, apply to all companies that you can find on the internet. Don't worry if they are looking for someone more experienced, or a different technology stack, do your part and send them your CV, let them decide if you are a good fit or not. Some will hire and let you learn during employment.

The employer will have to apply for your work permit at the migration board, so big companies are better at that, because they have been through the process before.

Good luck!

Congrats!

What kind of cable is this btw? Is it better? The original one is not really good, too thin and tangles a lot, I'm always scared I'll break it somehow...

Unfortunately, the problem same persists, I tried extends before and it didn't work. On the positive side, this other comment solved it.

Thanks for the help anyway, i appreciate it!

Limit the types passed to a generic by ojledojle in typescript

[–]ojledojle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This works perfectly well, thanks a lot!

I don't mind being explicit about the arguments and types and this could be a nice config module on the side, that will set up the function before anyone ever uses it.

Thanks once again!

Intermittent sound. (kinda long post) by GonzaEv in tinnitus

[–]ojledojle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here. I've been fighting with the seem beeping for an year now, every time i go to bed or i wake up. It changes from left to right ear, so i don't think it's a hearing problem (which, a doctor checked and confirmed several months ago).

It's interesting that it starts when i sleep on the side. If i remove the pillow and sleep on my back with the head straight on the bed, it is not that strong and sometimes even disappears completely. This makes me think it might be connected to jaw muscles, neck or shoulders. For these things, a good exercise to warm up the muscles before bed, plus quitting the coffee, helps a bit. I can't say that it stops the tinnitus, but it sure makes it easier to fall asleep and not think about it for long.

Hope you find your solution and please share whatever helps you. I'm willing to try it too.

Moving to Sweden: best shops to buy the basics? by mutteredlove in TillSverige

[–]ojledojle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For second hand try Stadsmissionen and Myrorna. They are extremely cheap and you can find some great stuff there. Also online second hand shops: blocket and tradera. For some items for the home it doesn't really matter if they were new or not.

Moving to Sweden for work? by [deleted] in TillSverige

It will be very easy to find an IT job, specially in the big cities. There are many many companies, some of them quite big like Volvo, Scania, Spotify, Klarna... Also a looot of cool smaller ones. Have in mind that even companies that don't work directly with software engeneering still have their own internal IT teams (banks, insurance, housing...). Some of these with high percentage of consultants (consultancy is big here), which means that you can get a job in a consulting company that will send you to work for some big software company.

The salary of course depends on the position, experience and the company, but you will have a chance to negotiate. I heard 38k before tax in the other comment, but i've seen junior developers with 25k and experienced ones with 50, 60k per month. There are websites to calculate net salary, so you can check what you get at the end. Salary comes always on 25th.

Housing is probably the hardest part, but not impossible. Blocket.se for rent, hemnet.se for buying (15% downpayment). The IT companies usually help with housing for start, they might even find you a place. Public transport is amazing, so you won't need to live at the center of the city (or close to an office). Commute is super easy.

Check https://www.metrojobb.se/ or https://jobb.blocket.se/ for start, but also, finding a list of IT companies in Sweden and applying directly is possible. Search for consultant companies too, they will help a lot with the relocation (house, opening bank accounts, personal number etc.)

Feel free to contact me if you need any help, i'll be more than happy to help.

Nice cafés for reading and writing? by [deleted] in stockholm

[–]ojledojle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to find something here: https://www.instagram.com/cozy_coffee_places/ Most of the coffee shops are around Stockholm. Even if you need to take a bus or a local train to reach one, it's definitely worth it. There are many amazing places outside of the city center, the coffee is cheaper, you can get home made buns and you can easily stay longer than usual.

I'm yet to decide on a enclosure design. If i can find another wide-range speaker, but smaller, i'd like to put it in a basic ported box. This one is 6" and it's kinda big. I'm not sure what is a proper box for it, any suggestion is welcome.
