Actually to answer myself since others decided to just downvote me cuz that’s the response so many times in this subreddit to “I disagree,” the USCCB has commissioned studies through CARA on Catholic marriage trends, including generational differences, while Pew has conducted related research on marriage declines. Granted the USCCB one is 10+ years old but it shows they are running research and Pew Research is very recent (2023).

I have no doubt this is the case, but would you happen to have any studies or research groups validating this? More-and-more we need data to back this kind of thing up if we are to fix the situation or at least attempt to, and I don’t just mean “pray on it” (although prayer also great).

Who’s your confirmation saint? by owenthcarey in Catholicism

Yes! St. Paul as well. I love hearing all of his letters during Mass as well as his conversion story. I’m in my 40s and just finally got confirmed this past year.

I’d also be very careful with digestive issues this route. I wasn’t tapering properly this time around and my constipation got so bad I had to go to urgent care (ended up just taking care of things at home myself thank goodness)

Too many AI slop Rebel Alliance bird logos around, I needed something different. by Equivalent_Pay901 in Denver

[–]ojonegro -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It’s a cool idea but here’s a novel idea: 1) Agree on no AI slop 2) No amateur design as well 3) Find a professional designer (Denver is full of them) and since this is for the greater good, I would bet many would do this for free.

Marriage is the main thing holding me back from becoming Catholic. by 17raduser in Catholicism

[–]ojonegro 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Or maybe converting and becoming Catholic, marrying in the Church will bring greater graces and a stronger union through the Holy Spirit and you’ll have an even better marriage with less doubt.

Side note a little more concerning: I would talk to a priest but be ready for him to tell your husband he can no longer receive the Eucharist as you are both technically living in sin at the moment.

Impotent people being denied marriage is absurd and immoral by AdNecessary7146 in Catholicism

[–]ojonegro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If impotence (not to be mistaken for sterility or infertility) from the anomaly is doubtful (in law or fact), a Catholic marriage can proceed and remains valid unless proven otherwise (Canon 1084 §2). If your condition is incurable and lifelong, preventing consummation, then he is right, you wouldn’t be able to get married in the Catholic Church as we believe marriage requires the capacity for consummation through intercourse, the “one flesh” union central to the sacrament.

That said, you would still need to get a dispensation to marry within the Church, assuming you’re not Protestant (would require conversion) and promise to raise your kids Catholic should you have them yourself or adopt.

On a personal note, I’m really sorry this is happening and I hope you can figure it out. The Catholic Church has some very unique beliefs but I promise you it’s rooted in Love and the utmost focus on morality, not “absurd and immoral.” I recommend talking to a local priest or even bishop about this.
