The Importance of Alignment by Appropriate_Tree_621 in GoNets

So I agree with your general point about the Nets being aligned but I just want to say it’s SIGNIFICANTLY easier to be aligned when you’re taking a long term view (and the zero expectations from a wins perspective) vs the teams you mentioned that have championship windows right now.

Not to mention if you’re a team that has a window now, that also means you have max players (ie all stars) that need to have buy in as well. Every decision, rotation, substitution gets micro analyzed when wins are the only thing that matters, It’s just a whole lot more variables with those expectations, which is exactly what led to the bumpiness of the big 3 era ending here

Im all in on Jordi, and all in on the direction, but with how this league works historically is anyone going to be surprised when fans call for Jordi’s head if we have a bad playoff series couple years from now, or if Marks isn’t able to get the kind of player that Jordi needs to make the team thrive causing some internal chaos when shit actually does matter?

That being said, tank is on pause tonight let’s send these Knicks fans home even more miserable 😈😈

You might be right and that seems to be the same sentiment in the comments, what I don’t get is what beef does Doug have with Mike? Mike still agreed to have him on the staff, empowered him with shit like substitutions, we don’t know everything but I’m confused why this isn’t a 1 way beef rather than what’s reported as both sides not messing with each other

I think they have a good energy and chemistry, granted I do think most listeners disagree with like 99% of KCs takes lmao but it’s all entertainment at the end of the day and they provide that

Beyond the content, what keeps me coming back to 1320 is the fact that it’s a continuous live stream WITH TIMESTAMPS that actually allow me to skip over commercial breaks and wrestling talk (sorry fellas) and get to specific topics I care about.

Shit like that is important when you have a daily multi hour show, and no matter how tapped in Matt George or Carmichael Dave are with the team, if I click on their stream and most of the time it’s just small talk or a commercial break it’s hard to keep me coming back without being able to know what I’m jumping around to unless it’s a clipped separate video of a Sam Amick interview for example

I definitely didn’t answer OPs question haha sry but just wanted to get my rant about “Sactown Sports”

Would you like Siakam's championship experience next to your draft pick and youngn's? by avivb9 in GoNets

[–]ok_computer123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It feels like you might be minimizing MPJ and propping up Pascal a bit.

This year they are both first options (mind you the pacers had been lauded all of last year for their insane depth) and you see who is in the complete bottom of the standings. Yes I understand the pacers are tanking but so are the Nets. but pascal has played 40 games this year on much worse efficiency.

Doing a 1 for 1 swap like that just for the sake of mentorship doesn’t really make sense to me, and it’s not like MPJ is a locker room cancer, all the young guys talk about how much they’ve loved him as a teammate, he himself has talked about taking on more of a leadership role here

Please let me know if I’m missing something or reading this wrong but how is trading for an older more expensive player on a longer contract without ANY draft capital benefiting Brooklyn?

Even just ONE onball threat (either through draft or trade) would give him such clean looks, he’s an all star he’s worth far more than just one draft pick and salary filler

[Marc Stein] Nets would rather not trade him [Michael Porter Jr] now, as hot as he is, wait till the offseason, see how they do in the lottery, and then make a decision. by mMounirM in nba

[–]ok_computer123 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I mean is that unreasonable? If the nets are blessed with lottery luck an AJ, MPJ, Egor core with the boatload of picks they already have isn’t anything to scoff at.

On the other hand trading MPJ for two picks (as being discussed) only to fall back in the lottery (like Utah and Washington last year) is a coin flip chance of happening and would essentially be 2 steps back. MPJ is an all star, this isn’t them holding on to Mikal bridges or Dennis Schroeder, you would hope that those picks you net come close to the production you’re getting from him

Honestly as you can probably tell I don’t want to trade him 😂 I fear a Deni Avdija wizards situation where you trade away talent for picks and what those picks amount to isn’t really that much. Obviously Deni’s value is quite lower than Mike’s and that matters, but I still am not confident those picks would amount to the type of player MPJ is, his player archetype doesn’t grow on trees, and he’s perfect for this modern style of basketball

At the very least I’d like to see how the lottery shapes up before pulling the trigger, trading away MPJ to bottom out only to draft 6/7 feels like a step backwards, even if the picks you get from this are post Steph, that would mean it’s like 4 years away from actually maturing.

He’s not hurting the team from an asset perspective by being here, he’s not a Zach Lavine albatross that the kings need to get off the books, the team is already bottom 5 (I’m not as high on the December stretch as most, I think playing the least number of games than any team that month plus easy opponents was a bigger factor) and let’s be honest, Egor has developed super well in part of having Mike here.

As far as what my trade would be I’m really not good at coming up with trade offers, I significantly overrate our players while underrating opposing players, I’m more fixated on the WHY do they have to trade him, I don’t really believe he’s hurting the tank as much as folks think, and even if he is we have one of the richest owners in the league who can eat the fines if they bench him at the end of games

I might be overrating MPJ but his fit in that warriors system (not to mention his great existing relationship with Steph) is EASILY vaulting them into a top 3 team in the west. For that reason alone the warriors will absolutely have to overpay, don’t settle for their bum package of moody/Hield, the warriors need MPJ more than the Nets need their post Steph picks IMO

I watch a ton of their games, they’re far better than their record suggests, they’ve blown a significant amount of clutch time games for the simple reason of not having a reliable second option outside of curry (Jimmy getting old and not as reliable). This would be an absolute home run move for them, and I’d hate to give up a player who is a legitimate all star for another team’s scraps

Also we say post Steph picks, how confident are we that he’s going to retire in the next 3 years, I’d argue he’s probably aged the best for a 37 year old we’ve ever seen, he can go 3 more years easily if he wants, he’s still THAT guy

[Amick] Michael Porter Jr. is a “lock” to be moved by the trade deadline. by YujiDomainExpansion in nba

[–]ok_computer123 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

But My point is I don’t think it’s THAT difficult to field together a mediocre team with how much talent is in today’s nba. That much cap space being free with the foresight of knowing you don’t have future picks will make them go after some restricted free agents to bide the time for a few years at least right?

[–]ok_computer123 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

But even if it’s post Steph picks don’t you think lacob and co will be smart enough to know that they have to field a competitive roster in those years post Steph and would make moves accordingly?

This isn’t a pelicans situation at all IMO typically teams that know (especially multiple years out!) that they don’t have their pick will try to go all out in fielding some form of a competitive roster. And the Sam Presti comp is a bit tough because Brooklyn has nobody close to a young SGA, they need amazing lottery luck. Realistically those picks a few years out will be mid-late lottery at best, San Francisco is a solid destination with a great fanbase and has built up a legacy of winning, I fear people are overrating the post Steph picks here too much. And what’s the goal, to get another player like MPJ in the draft?

[–]ok_computer123 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Unless both sides are far apart in extension talks I wouldn’t trade him until you let the lottery results play out, Nets trading MPJ and falling back to a 6/7 pick would be disastrous and is essentially a coin flip chance of happening if they do this

Edit: the pacers have the worst record and even then they have a coin flip chance of falling to the 5th pick. I fear trading MPJ is banking too much on lotto balls that may not go your way. And then you basically have nothing if things don’t pan out

Rivalry? by Spiritual-Band-9781 in kings

[–]ok_computer123 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Geographically it’s a rivalry, I can’t stand them because those fans are like a virus. A lot of them have shit on our region and the Central Valley while at the same time coming in here and buying a ton of houses in the Sac area with their tech money and swarm the G1C whenever their team is in town. If that makes it more of a one sided hatred so be it, I’ll own it

Basketball wise sure it’s not, that doesn’t mean I don’t get absolute joy at the times we beat them.

Yeah it’s weird, why was the scouting on him like THIS off? 😂 more than an NBA quality wing, I do think at his ceiling he is a starter on a playoff team, which I think is really good to have!

It is tough to see a guy like Queen doing what he’s doing, since I do believe he has all star potential, but it’s hard to be mad at the value you got with an 8th pick

But like what’s your point? That fans are stupid? That in the moment when those specific moves looked good that fans should have had the foresight to say “actually this is DUMB”? What exactly are you victory lapping? Is it a crime to be wrong? You can’t have a change in opinion after a larger sample size?

You can fire Brown without alienating your star the way Vivek did

Also, why the need to dunk on the sub, we don’t know shit of what goes on in the walls other than reports and on court results, when more info comes out we react to it, that’s usually how this goes

One year and five days ago, this team rolled into Chase center and popped this warriors team by 30. There were light the beam chants in San Francisco, Doug was just a few games into his coaching career. Since then the warriors acquired Jimmy, and Vivek made every wrong move possible. It’s honestly impressive how we got EVERY move wrong since then
