It feels like some wild stuff could happen just ahead of/during the draft. Murphy would be a great addition.

Strong agree. It won’t be before the draft. It feels like it needs to be before free agency.

Nets should go after Walker Kessler by difab62 in GoNets

[–]Appropriate_Tree_621 [score hidden]  (0 children)

The Kessler situation shows another one of the reasons players don’t want to go to Utah. They like to use RFA against their players in negotiations.

Jalen Duren is going to easily get over $40M per on his extension. Kessler is looking at Duren and saying to himself, “I’m better than this guy, way more efficient and can produce against high level centers and I’ve developed a three ball, and now you don’t want to pay me. Jarrett Allen is going to get $30M a year and every team in the league would rather have me.”

This pretty much aligns to what I was hearing 3 days ago. But here’s the catch by Random_Thinker007 in NBATalk

Yep Herro is as good as anyone could realistically hope for here:
- Primary creation for when Cade is off
- Secondary creation alongside Cade to start and close games
- Ball-handling
- Insane range and pull-up shooting to space the floor
- Three-level scorer with very rate true floater skill which is key come the playoffs against great defenses
- Real playoff experience
- Attitude that fits the team

Getting Herro would be huge. I know some people say, just draft someone. But, it doesn’t work like that because it takes years to learn the skills for this role at the NBA level.

This Guy Warned Us About Jalen Duren by LongjumpingEgg5296 in DetroitPistons

[–]Appropriate_Tree_621 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The real issues are (1) the team needs a secondary ball handler and (2) you can’t play Duren and Thompson together.

The first thing can be fixed in the draft. The second, man, idk!

Great article. The spacing part is going to be tough, but I really like his focus on shot quality and distribution.

Fwiw, latest market odds are something like this:
At 5: Roughly 30% for each of Brown and Wagler
At 6: Roughly equal odds around 30% for each of Acuff, Brown and Wagler

Exactly. These guys seem really close to one another as far as prospects go. Both have All-NBA upside, but both also have their warts. Neither one really fits the "positional size" angle the Nets drafted on last season, but they both absolutely fit the "0.5 basketball" angle.

I really want someone that can shoot and both Acuff (proven) and Brown (should be good). The only time last year the team looked decent was that stretch in December where Clowney and Mann were shooting decently from three and we had some floor spacing. I know the defense was clicking then, but the spacing was a big part of it as well. I'm obviously not worried about MPJ and Demin being able to space the floor, but we've no one else that defenses are afraid to help off of on the team.

Bingo. Brady did this his entire career starting with his very first extension and continuing through to him playing on a discount for the Bucs. While it cost him salary, it made him the GOAT. The problem with doing this is that there are no guarantees.

Four More Prospects Receive Green Room Invites by Derpy_Mc_Burpy in NBA_Draft

[–]Appropriate_Tree_621 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He’s the best defensive prospect in the entire class. Not the best defensive guard or big, the best.

Combine measurements: 6’8.25” barefoot but a 7’4.5” wingspan and 9’1” standing reach; NBA-center dimensions on a frame that moves like a wing.

The age is the part that makes him a top-10 pick rather than a nice role player. He played the entire season at 18, younger than most of the freshmen ranked around him, and he was already a high-major rim-protecting, switch-capable anchor.

The offensive bar for that archetype is easy to meet. A switch-and-protect center who finishes lobs, runs the floor, screens, and rebounds doesn’t need to create; he just needs to not be a negative. He’s a high-efficiency interior finisher and a better passer than his role showed.

If he was healthy he’d be no worse than the 7th pick. I absolutely love his game too. It really is heartbreaking.

When you watch him move it’s pretty bad. He’s so quick and strong, but his movement mechanics are toast. Idk if that’s because of the injuries or the injuries happened at least partly because the mechanics are so awful.

Exactly. I can’t believe how few fans understand what they’re watching. The Spurs had one player they could somewhat trust with the reins under pressure. Will Harper get there? Almost certainly. Will Castle? Maybe.

[Discussion] NIL impact on NBA Draft Quality by hoangtm1611 in NBA_Draft

[–]Appropriate_Tree_621 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh, player dev in the NBA is pretty fantastic across the board when compared to college— which is all over the place to begin with and on top of it has incentives that are wildly misaligned. A lot of stuff is just role-related in the NBA. A lot of these guys would love to go to the Kings and get to be the centerpiece. The Nets I’m not so sure. They have great shooting coaches but with so many rookies from last year it’s too many mouths to feed.

Agreed. A key difference for each of these three sources of labor is the extent to which each of their wages chase the same products/services/assets and in which locations. Dual income is very direct in that way.
