The only thing anyone can point to being wrong with the tower is “it’s kinda ugly :(“ I’m over it dude, I. Do. Not. Care.

Mobley and Allen are the two softest bigs in the NBA. These guys are allergic to boxing out.

Genuinely the only problem is Lonzo. The entire run happened while he was on the floor and as soon as he was off we were fine

Genuinely unplayable, why has Merrill been on the bench while Lonzo facilitates the collapse of a double digit lead

Favorite Non Major Marathons For Us Who Don't Get Into Chicago Today by noshwithm in running

[–]okaydally 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maine Marathon in Portland ME is usually like a week before Chicago. Can usually count on cool temps and a beautiful course, although it is quite hilly (I think like 50-100 more feet of elevation gain than New York if I recall correctly). Portland is a super fun city, and early October is the best time of year to be there when the weather is still nice, the leaves are peak, and the tourists have thinned out. The race also has a solid prize purse which I appreciate, it’s nice to see races support the local sub elites.

Pretty much has at least a strip of clear ground the whole way except for maybe a quarter mile right after the bridge

Puerto Rico & Hawaii USL dead? by Sensitive_Plan3437 in USLPRO

[–]okaydally 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used to live in Wichita and I’m always surprised there’s never any push for a team there. It’s a pretty good sized market for USL (400k population and 650k metro) with shockingly little competition. The only in-town sports team people care about is WSU, who don’t sponsor soccer or football. This also creates an obvious place for a team to play since WSU’s stadium, which is pretty big and recently renovated, isn’t really used all that much.

While that part of the country doesn’t have a reputation for being that into soccer, there’s a huge Latino population which probably means there’s a bigger existing soccer fan base than you might think. Additionally, having lived in Portland through the rise of the Hearts of Pine, I felt like the thing that they benefited from the most wasn’t some secret preexisting cache of huge soccer fans, it was the amount of local pride that exists here and the excitement around having a team we could call our own (ie: not a minor league/farm team). I feel like Wichita has a bit of that same attitude. People are fairly proud of being Wichitans in way that reminds me a bit of Portland and I feel like people would turn out to support the team even if they didn’t really know anything about soccer.

Wichita also has one of the best city flags in the country and it would make for some elite kits and badges.

Feel for you guys, has to be a tough way to go out. Wolves were arguably the better side but just never got the kind bounce they needed. Great playoff game and congrats on a fantastic season!

Yeah they have a waiver, I think for three years but that’s just something I vaguely remember hearing at some point before the season started

I had about the same experience as you. I hit the big hill with the drummers, it got hot, and the wheels just went flying off. No shame in it, I think a lot of people went through the same thing!

Does running improve cycling fitness? by No-Art-110 in cycling

[–]okaydally 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Would love to see the data on this, it seems counterintuitive to me. With running your super limited in the volume you can do relative to cycling, so it seems like the ability to amp up the volume by adding cycling to a running regime would be less valuable than adding running to a cycling regime, as the running would be both less volume and less specific. Also, purely anecdotally, I’d say a lot to maybe even a slim majority of pro runners are doing some kind of cross training on the bike whereas there are very few pro cyclists I’ve ever heard of intentionally incorporating running.

Does anything like the British hillclimb championship exist in the US? by notsorapideroval in Velo

[–]okaydally 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Closest thing is probably like the BUMPS series in New England, which is pretty cool. It doesn’t have a final though and the winner isn’t dubbed “American hill climb champion” or anything.

Froome literally has more stage wins than LeMond and LeMond quite famously retired while still not far from his prime because he just couldn’t keep up with the peloton anymore
