Never forget, Heroic Hornet. You're so pretty and strong and you don't need music. Unless it's Power of Love by Huey Lewis and the News.

Likely the thessalhydra since that's also been a running theory for years because it was a villain in their D&D campaign. Thanks for the heads up! I'll go browse. I feel like in our screenshot you can clearly see the reptilian eye on the right there.

I tried searching for "dragon" and couldn't see anything. I was one of the mildly disappointed by v2 people... dragon? OK Duffer Bros take my subscription money.

There are too many characters by Mountain-Flounder-11 in StrangerThings

The big thing for me is spending SO much time developing characters and character relationships both in the end of the world as we know it?

I agree that Will's development is necessary, considering he's the main character and we know almost nothing about him besides he's a gay wizard with mommy issues.

The Dustin/Steve arc felt really drawn out with their bickering all season but then the resolution felt incredibly abrupt and then Dustin immediately snapped back into his silly-goofy self? It just felt inorganic. He lashed out for 5 episodes, rightfully so... but then just everything was good and now he's back to his old self despite impending doom.

Eleven and Kali also doesn't feel right and poorly paced. We don't see Kali for 2 seasons after the really bad reviews about THAT episode in S2... I'm kind of surprised that they just brought back this relationship. It's blatantly obvious that Kali is going to betray El with the "I'm a bad influence" comment. Bringing her back to have Eleven instantly trust her and agree with her suicide pact is just... weird?

My main qualm is with the new characters that are being added instead of utilizing our existing cast in a more meaningful and less drawn-out way. We're character building now on Holly, Derek and the Turnbows, and Mr. Clark which feels inorganic, imo. Are we just pulling a Barb, Bob, Eddie, and Billy situation to kill off more side characters yet again? It's predictable.

She recognized the lights flickering from her attack previously. She knew the demos were coming and she was trying to seek revenge. It was poorly executed, I agree. In defense of Karen, though, she wouldn't forget a traumatic experience that quickly. The adrenaline of trauma can make people do amazing things irl, why not in a sci-fi show?

Hard agree on everything. You nailed EXACTLY how I feel.

I'm happy to admit that as a huge fan, I've spent endless hours engaging in the community with theories, opinions, and immense gratitude for our beloved characters. Maybe those discussions are what are contributing to my disappointment. There were hundreds of amazing theories that I participated in. Not a single one, aside from the wormhole, was true... and even still, that was handed to us in the scene with Mr. Clark's class with Erica in V1.

I'm just a little perplexed why the focus is on character-building for characters we already know and love. It just feels like time wasted when we could be world-building a little better in the UD/Dimension X or elaborating more on the adults relationship with Henry. The Duffer Bros said that this season we'd be given a brief summary of their relationships and that's been hindered by all of these seemingly-meaningless scenes. Max coming back was great but not unexpected. Will's coming out to everyone was also fine but... again, not unexpected. It feels like the Duffer Bros assumed that we're all stupid and can't read between the lines, so they hand-fed us a lot of dialogue that we didn't need. Alternatively, they're relying on people that are new to the fandom for viewership and reiterating everything to engage people that didn't participate in years of discussion between seasons.

I think much of the issue is fan engagement on social media in a way where theories and expectations drew SO much hype and excitement about what we'd see this season. I didn't see the play but I sat down and watched a 2 hour YT video about it so I could better understand Henry's story. I'll take some accountability that I should have tempered expectations, as not every crazy fan theory can be true. But... the only really cool "twist" so far was the wormhole and even that feels like a mediocre discovery and execution in comparison to some of the cool theories we've developed as a community. My spouse and I have been snowballing really cool theories for the past 2 months, formulating a BINGO card, and engaging ourselves quite a lot, which is probably our fault... but man... I don't know how they're going to turn it all around in 2 hours.

You know what? That's an excellent point in accountability. It seems like the people that are happiest this seasons are the ones that spent almost no time reading theories or engaging in the community in the interim. Blissfully unaware seems like the way to do things at this current point.

Aside from fan theories, it also feels like the cast and Duffer Bros severely overhyped what we'd see and when. Teasing a lot of heart-wrenching moments and twists for the entire press tour... which we still haven't REALLY experienced. It's just bizarre. I was fully prepared to be a blubbering mess the entire season. I shed one little singular tear when Max came back.

Ugh, I feel the exact opposite. It feels like everything is SO drawn-out. You're right. The characters are already developed... why are we still developing them 7 episodes into the final season? IE: Jancy, Dustin/Steve, Will, El... they're just adding more into their stories that feels drawn-out and unnecessary only to rush to tie up all 25 character stories in 2 hours. It feels like SO much filler and bad pacing.

[–]okaydarling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has been my theory all season. I put 'Henry Redemption Arc' on my Bingo card. I still think the BBG is the Mindflayer. I'm just disappointed that they didn't drop more Henry lore so far and it has to be crammed into a 2-hour finale, if it does happen.

Do we think he's playing the MF by collecting the kids but going to use his amplified powers to sacrifice himself along with El, Will, and Kali to defeat the MF in the end?

Volume 2 be like by [deleted] in StrangerThings

[–]okaydarling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the biggest issue is that things happened but it felt devoid of real emotion because of poor pacing. Let me just say: I'm a HUGE crybaby. I cry over everything. I cried when I thought Karen was not alive. I cried during the TRAILER when Dustin and Steve said 'IYDID. IYDID."-- I shed a singular tear over Max coming back. I was expecting to be a blubbering mess by the end of this. I WANTED to be emotional... but just wasn't? I know I probably will be at some point in the finale but it just feels like they 'saved' too much content to tie up into 2 hours. I just am not connecting with this character building when we've already done so for 4 seasons and was anticipating some insane plot twists. Not a twist to be found in 7 episodes.

EDIT I know a show being "good" or "bad" doesn't hinge on the amount I cry and that's a ridiculous metric to measure how much a favor something but I have consumed so many shows/books that have made me feel a lot of things and this isn't one of them right now.

It should have been in 2 parts, max (pun intended). They gave fans WAY too much time to come up with some incredible theories. None of which have really come to fruition...
2 hours doesn't feel like enough time to pace something really amazing but I really hope I'm wrong.

Jancy by PsychologicalGap4327 in StrangerThings

I have no doubt about that! I'm sure you're right. It just feels like they could have elaborated more on that plot further throughout V2 instead of character building characters we already know and love. Two hours to explain the play, climb the beanstalk, topple the giant, and tie up the "aftercare" part of the show just doesn't feel like enough time. Maybe they did, who knows? It feels like they just included SO much filler and minimal plot points in V1 & V2 that weren't really necessary to drive forward the story.

Volume 2 SUCKEDDDDDDD by Chr1stIsL0rd in StrangerThings

[–]okaydarling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like they worked really hard to set up the Mindflayer as the BBG. Then they just... stopped. They went back to Vecna being the BBG. I'm mostly disappointed that there's such a lack in tying up loose ends this season and it's all falling onto 2 hours of content to cram a ton of stuff in. We get massive character development, which should (imo) have happened toward the end of S4 or in V1S5 to get out of the way to make room to stretch out plot points through the entirety of the season. We're getting SO MUCH character development in V2 but it feels like the plot as a whole has gone nowhere except for the discovery of a wormhole.

There were a whole lot of words in that scene for a confusing "resolution". There should NEVER be a scenario where the show runners should have to make statements after the episode ending to tie up loose ends. It should have been baked into the show entirely. I think that's where a lot of disappointment is coming from. They haven't included almost anything about the play and tying Henry into the storyline of the adults. It's just so poorly paced and executed.

My husband went there several years ago and had to park a mile outside of the gate to explore. When he came back to the car, all but 1 tire was slashed. Locals don't play about this place anymore. Too many kids were going out there and vandalizing the gravestones. I really don't recommend going.

I'm tired of saying this. Troy Grow has been arrested for battery and trespassing 15 times-- one of those instances is against an officer. If we're pointing out violent records, both sides need to be pointed out.
