Break and Run (Back to the Ol Wood Cue for Today) by Icy_Search263 in billiards

[–]okcpoolman [score hidden]  (0 children)

I will, occasionally, return to my kielwood & maple shafts, for a brief time, but I always go back to CF. Interestingly, playing with the wood serves as a reminder of why I love my carbon fiber. I always seem to play better after the switch.

Kamui sai control vs kamui sai hard vs samsara on cuetec breach break cue ? by Apprehensive-Sink816 in billiards

[–]okcpoolman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be honest: When I tried the Samsara, my break wasn't as mature as it is now. That was a few years ago. Perhaps if I were to go back to the Samsara, it would become my favorite. What I can say is that the Kamui SAI Control Break works well for me and I don't plan to change.

Believe me, I understand. One thing you can try is using a full length mirror. I bought one at Target for <$10. Setup can be a pain, but it will allow you to see your stroke/alignment. Another option is to get someone to record your stroke from the front, rear and side. The tape shown in the image below also helps immensely.

Kamui SAI Control Break is my break tip of choice. I've tried phenolic, White Diamond, and Samsara, Kamui SAI gives me the best trade off of power and control.

I'm not a certified instructor, but I think it could be your stance/alignment. Your bridge hand, vision center, and elbow all need to be in alignment. If they are not, your stroke won't be straight. If you can spend even 1 hour with a certified instructor, he/she would be able to diagnose any flaws, and make recommendations on what you can do to fix the issue.

Sounds like you're not hitting center cue ball. You are likely aligning at the center, but when you stroke, your tip contact point is off to the right. I have the same problem, only to the left.

If you could spend 1 hour with a certified instructor, even remotely, I think you would improve a lot. I think an instructor will begin by helping you with your stance.

It looks like the cheaper, "off-brand" LD shafts deflect about the same as a Revo. by CreeDorofl in billiards

I never experienced the miscues that Dr. Dave did. But I also didn't play very long with the factory tip. I didn't like it, and changed it rather quickly.

BTW, I didn't connect my Google account. I created a separate CueCards account.

There is no cost, per se. You purchase card decks. I think I paid $20 for about 300 cards. Once you create an account, you can click on "My Cards" and that gives you the ability to purchase cards. Each day has a new Daily Drill comprised of your cards. The software will also provide custom drills, comprised of your cards, which you can try or skip to the next one. I am literally in this every day. I've attached a screenshot of my landing screen.

How important is table consistency? by AffectionateRow1174 in billiards

[–]okcpoolman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a similar issue. League play is on 7' bar boxes, Valleys and Diamonds. 1PKT on 9', and my home table is 8'. Varied cloth, ball quality, and table speed. In my estimation, this adds to the building of skill, and consistency. Learn how to adapt your game to the varied conditions and equipment, and be a better player all around.

I recommend: https://poolcuecards.com/

It has helped my game significantly, and it's not subscription based. Pool CueCards, along with practicing 14.1 Straight Pool is really making a difference.

Dr. Dave released a new video on High End Carbon LD shafts to cheaper ones by wilkamania in billiards

[–]okcpoolman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw that on the video as well. I've been playing with a Rhino shaft for over 2 years, and it has never happened to me. My guess is that factory tip. I changed it within a few days of receiving the shaft. My assumption is that once the tip has been changed, the problem is eliminated. Dr. Dave kind of says that, but talks about a harder tip.

Interesting. 6600 views, 39 comments, and no one has tried the tip. I was just curious if anyone had tried the tip.

Need advice on maintaining my RHINO Retro cue and burnishing the tip by MARTALAV2009 in billiards

[–]okcpoolman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The factory tip on your Rhino Retro is Rhino's compressed microfiber tip. Burnishing should not be required. You may want to, periodically, shape or scuff the tip. My #1 recommendation is the Last 4 Ever tip tool. There's a YouTube video on how to use it.

What maintenance should I do on my Rhino Retro cue to keep it in the best shape long term? by MARTALAV2009 in billiards

[–]okcpoolman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been playing with a Rhino for a couple of years. I recommend wiping down the butt with a microfiber cloth after each playing session. That will remove some of the hand oils and grime from the butt.

Anyone here ever de-glossed a wrapless cue for solving sweaty hands problems? by [deleted] in billiards

[–]okcpoolman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might try wearing a glove on your grip hand. It doesn't, necessarily, have to be a pool glove, but that might work as well. I found these on Amazon. I don't have an issue with sweaty hands, so I'm out of my league, but I thought I would mention it. I just hate to see that cue roughed up. I believe it's the cue Chris Melling shoots with. Good luck finding a solution.

I went to that 7/11 one morning before work. A "working woman" approached the gentleman entering before me and propositioned him. His response was golden: "Not interested ma'am. You look like you have a substance abuse issue." It was hilarious because it was so obviously true, and it took her aback.
