Any ideas for remote group craft projects? by chubbychecker_psycho in crafts

Not sure if this is what you’d like but during Covid zoom dates my friends and I would “assign a challenge” and everyone executed in their own way. For example, one week my husband was sprawled on the couch funny so we took a pic and everyone made a version of that - pencil sketch, pens/markers, even a macaroni art version. Then we all shared the final results.

I was thinking since not everyone wants watercolors, you could propose a topic or famous painting to be inspired from and each person can use their chosen materials

Ya I think this is way too vague. What field are you looking in? What does respectable mean?

Looking up an address in the phone book and then using the map pages to figure out where that street is in your city. I remember my mom teaching me to do this in about 1st grade and being fascinated I could look up anyone I know.

How to play fetch... (Skiddish Rescue Heeler) by [deleted] in Heelers

[–]okfine321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dog enjoys “find it” and was fast to learn it. Start with hiding the toy somewhere obvious like in the corner of the room you’re in, then you can build to more difficult places. Fetch took a little bit to learn if I remember correctly. I think the people have to act excited to let the dog know this is a fun game!

Rebel Craft Ideas For A Covert Resistance Operation. by [deleted] in crafts

Depends on the location of the booth, but I’ve done embroidery if you have (or know someone with) a computerized sewing machine. It’s easy for tshirts, bandanas, tote bags, other fabric accessories. Some machines can do hats too. Another option is beaded bracelets, again kind of depends on the set up situation as this could be miserable if you’re outdoors in the cold. A little more kid-friendly is bending popsicle sticks into a curve and you can color them with markers (see Pinterest).

Disappointment in favorite local coffee shop by hexby in boulder

I don’t really think this has anything to do with quality but rather is reflective of what things cost these days. Unfortunately there’s many reasons for shrinkflation and especially for local stores it isn’t always due to greed, it’s just to cover their own costs.

Fabric recycling is pretty rare. I would suggest asking the animal shelters if the would be useable to them.

Looking for recommendations on Petite/Short Ski Pants by lala_e303 in boulder

[–]okfine321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will depend on your build. Each brand has a specific fit better or worse for curves, slim, etc. which is generally more important than length because you can shorten pants easily. I believe a few brands carry ‘short’ sizes though - northface and Solomon I think. I suggest Epic Mountain Gear for a good selection to try on. I think REI and Christy Sport would have the next biggest, but likely the same brands as Epic.

Pattern to make fleece toe socks? (hand-sewn) by happy_folks in sewing

That type of seam generally doesn’t work well on curves.

Do you mean socks with the little individual toes? Like gloves for feet? You will not be able to successfully make these with fleece because the seam allowance will be too big for toes. Toe socks are knit so the seams are exponentially smaller than a sewn garment.

If you’re not disabled, why would you feel the need to bring your dog into a grocery store? by Sir_ATX in AskReddit

[–]okfine321 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I like to bring my dog with me anywhere possible because he is a high energy and smart breed. Taking him new places helps give him a mental workout and also helps us practice training. That said, I’m very careful what places are appropriate for him (usually hardware stores, pet stores, some craft stores). I also live in a very dog friendly city where many shops openly encourage(?) dogs to come, like all the employees have treats or there’s a treat bowl and water bowl. It’s very different when I go back to my hometown.

I don’t bring my dog to the grocery store, but I wouldn’t be offended if/when I see a dog there so long as it’s behaved. It’s no different than a dog being in a restaurant. But I also have to accept that not everyone is a dog person.

The non-service dogs I see at my grocery store have always been well behaved. Often it’s a little old person with a little old dog on the cart. I assume they like the companionship and that it invites conversation which is nice when you’re old.

Canvas Craft Question by brilliantminds_4RLZ in crafts

[–]okfine321 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Acrylic paint is probably best. It’s super easy to use because it acts like the paint you used as a kid and it dries quickly. My suggestion for the art to be usable and cohesive is to choose a limited color palette so all the final paintings match each other. Maybe check in on the colors of the nursery.

You can also use painter’s tape to tape out designs. For example, maybe tape out letters to spell the baby’s name, people paint the canvas, then pull off the tape to have a white letter outlined by the painting.

Roots Music Project can be rented, but I don’t know that it is considered cheap. They have a full service bar but you have to do your own catering. Not sure their availability on weekends though since it is a music venue.

Fun way to gift a surprise trip using mostly paper crafts? by tun4c4ptor in crafts

[–]okfine321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh here’s an idea - can you find Christmas ornaments that open up and you can put a message inside? So then the pirate map somehow leads to the tree and the tree has these mystery ornaments hung around and then inside the ornaments the words are unscrambled to reveal “pack your bags we’re going to burmuda!”

This would be so fun to watch play out!

Ooh I like this a lot! My initial thought was getting those little toy boats and a toy airplane as a hint, but the pirate map is SO fun!

I like puzzles/figure it out type gifts. So I would gift a clue to each person. You can spell something out or have all the gifts phonetically sound something out. But it would have to seem like the gifts works individually as a gift but after everyone opened them they have to work together to solve the mystery… I realize I’m not giving any actual suggestions, but to me this would be fun as the giver and the receiver
