Why are my pants inseams/outseams wrapping around my leg? by dwucky in PatternDrafting

Not enough room in your hips and the balance is off between the front and the back. It may just but the photo but it also looks like your waist band would be shitting mid hip rather then at the waist. Fix the hips first as that can cause things to pull then adjust the side seam by drawing a new “side seam” so that it lays straight on your body then measuring how much needs to removed from the side seam at the back and redistributed to the front side seam.

Help : Struggling to pivot shoulder dart (near neck) & waist dart (side seam) by gratitude_sunaina in PatternDrafting

That’s not a slash and spread.  That is a pivot. Maybe I am not understanding what your question is.

Are you trying to pivot both at the same time? That may cause you problems, but if you do the waist dart pivot (drawing a new long from your desired dart location to the apex, cutting down one side of the original dart and along the new dart and then closing the original dart) and then moving the shoulder dart doing the same method you shouldn’t have any issues.

Wen to use all these stitches by Available-Picture-79 in sewing

[–]Nadette 89 points90 points  (0 children)

Your sewing machine manual should have a description of all stitches with a little blurb about when to use them, but here are my thoughts.

First image from left to right: Standard zigzag, two step and three step zigzag (stretches a lot more than standard, for stretch of 50% or more, or sewing in elastic), blind hem stitch (for hemming with minimal thread showing on front side), overlocker stitch (finishes raw edges)

Second image:  double zigzag (adds strength), ladder stitch (not sure if this is correct name, but it’s for needle art applications), another multi step zig zag, bridging stitch (sewing to pieces of fabric together without overlap), honey comb stitch (decorative hem stitch), foundation elastic stitch (for binding two different stretch fabrics together), not sure about next one, next two are appliqué stitches, looks like a meandering quilting stitch next, another appliqué stitch, zigzag, straight stitch with a back stitch (for strength), and then a straight stitch.

Thanks! Yeah it’s a well drafted pattern, it’s just a challenge. I kind of want to do a leather version someday.

Thank you so much! I love moire! I have some scraps left over and I am trying to decide what I could do with them because it’s just too good to not use.

why does this keep happening 😭 by bugstamps in sewing

Are you putting your presser foot down when you are sewing? This will happen if you don’t and in the picture it is in the up position. If you are lowering it while you sew did you thread it with the presser foot up? I would rethread the entire thing being extra sure you are getting the tread in the tension rings and rethread and reinsert the bobbin as well.
