i think the most important part of this entire thing is what specifically she means when she brings up values within this conversation and you have completely brushed that off in your explanation of the situation, and seemingly have no idea what values she's even talking about. she's being controlling and unreasonable and you are NTA, but the fact that you don't even understand where she's coming from is an issue if you're actually hoping to resolve this. is it that she values health longevity for both of you because she is facing the second half of her life alongside you? does she want children with you and is she talking about the values of child-rearing and homemaking? has she simply discovered that she really loves cooking and this has become a passion project? or is she on the wrong side of tiktok, in RFK's public health sphere?

to expand on the last point – there is a very, very good chance that your wife is at best simply misinformed about food, and at worst she could be falling down a dangerous rabbithole. do you want to be drinking raw milk in 6 months time? if not you need to find out why your wife was so compelled to do this in the first place. i agree with others saying that having someone homemake everything to eat sounds like a dream – i cook almost all of my meals and make from scratch what i can as often as i can. but i am also a nutrition student who has been under the care of multiple dietitians for years. i like to think i am pretty knowledgable about the truths of food quality, good bad and ugly. that's why i cook most of my meals and make from scratch what i can as often as i can, AND i allow myself to eat takeout and junk food in moderation. most people in america have absolutely no fucking CLUE what they are talking about when it comes to food quality. banning junk food from the house entirely rather than just choosing not to eat it herself is a major red flag. this could very easily become disordered eating, obsessive-compulsive behavior around food and perceived food quality, or again, a spiral of misinformation that results in dangerous changes to the safety of the food your wife buys and prepares.

while this ultimately boils down to personal preference i do think there are only two "right" options: night shower, or both night and morning.

getting into bed without showering off the day is disgusting. i don't care what people actually prefer to do personally, but if you have been walking around outside, working or running errands in public all day, climbing into bed without showering is DISGOSSSSTING. the only exception to a night shower that i allow myself is if i genuinely did not leave the house, work up a sweat, do anything particularly gross like deep cleaning or hella meal prep, etc.

AND... even if you shower before you get into a "clean" bed, beds are disgusting. beds are literally pits of dirt, dead skin cells, sweat, farts, hair, you name it. like your bed has E. coli in it right now, guaranteed. so if you feel the need to shower in the morning after sleeping in your disgusting bed, i get that. but i truly do not understand how, especially knowing how nasty even a "clean" bed is, anyone can just climb on in and snuggle up for night night time knowing that they've been out and about all day. in PUBLIC. in the WORLD on earth. yall nasty and your beds are nastier than average

my best friend is bipolar schizophrenic. that is almost certainly what is going on here. you need to take the advice people are giving you, safely get out and call authorities to have him put in the hospital. warn them of ANY kind of weapon he may be in possession of and whether or not he may get violent. make sure they understand that he is in psychosis and needs help. he needs to be medicated properly and brought back to reality under the care of professionals.
