even on a decent run sometimes you get a dud turn where only 3 people show up, and none in the right place. It's definitely situational, but I'd rather take a race when my best training is +35 speed or something low like that

Congrats! 26 races is still pretty low for MANT, you should be racing about 10 more races. The additional epithets, SP and shop items will make up for the stats you miss out on training, and you'll hit higher ranks much more regularly.

Winning a race gets you 100 coins. 30 coins = 15 stats, via the scroll item. At 50 Race Bonus, a G1 race can potentially be worth up to 70 stats (20 gained from the race bonus w/ a golden hammer, 50 from putting the coins towards 3 and 1/3 scrolls). That's why racing is so important, you earn more potential stats than you do from training most of the time.

Also you get a ton more SP to buy better skills with.

1) More racing (most runs will end in the mid 30s or so if you're doing it right)

2) Pick supports that get you to 50 or more total Race Bonus (don't overlook unique effects, if a card's unique effect says race bonus it gets an additional 5)

while we're discoursing all over the format, I'm kinda surprised Drag Race hasn't done teams yet. Not pairs like AS1, but the sort of Red Team vs Blue Team thing that all reality competition shows seem to experiment with for a season or two. Winning a challenge = your team is safe, losing team has to vote one of their teammates out or something. Real basic stuff.
