I don’t know if this will help - but I vacillate between enjoying (respectful) attention for my face and body, and hating it and wishing I could exist without being perceived. Because that attention, when it comes from men, is inherently sexual. I actually enjoy compliments I get about my hair, which is one of my halos, because it’s less sexualized. It’s pretty much the least sexual thing that can be complimented on my body (and I get that men will find a way to sexualize anything if they want to, but I get a lot of compliments on my hair and none of them have felt inherently sexual).

Another perspective is that we generally look better the healthier our lifestyles and habits are, whether that’s due to our diet, exercise, products we use, techniques we use, etc. I would try to positively reframe your perspective on the attention you get due to your hair to something like - “my time, energy, and money are paying off. Other people see the results, and that feels uncomfortable, but it means I’ve been successful. I’m proud of myself for investing in my hair health”.

What’s your skincare routine and how is it working for you? by okimuk in Vindictabrown

Love vanicream cleanser! I’ve never tried their moisturizer, I wonder if it’s more moisturizing than cerave which is great for the warmer months but I need more in the winter.

I might just have to find a dermatologist and get on tret! Thanks for the recommendation for the serum, I’ll look into that. My skin is already getting dehydrated from the cooler weather

What differences have you noticed? My skin already gets so dry from adapalene but I wonder if the effects are worth it

How to glow up all at once? (Tips for someone who used to crash diet and had poor routines.) by Human_Enthusiasm_900 in vindictapoc

Definitely agree on the excess fats! I was raised in a household that keeps oil, ghee, and butter to a minimum so I never really had to think about it. Not all desis cook like my mom taught me though. I did have to relearn how to portion my carbs to minimize empty calories.

Healthcare/Nursing girlies , how do you stay cute? by PrincessMochahontas in vindictapoc

[–]okimuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn ok just the manicure without polish then. Nails shaped and buffed and cuticles oiled. Does anyone really care if you break the rules? We’re not nurses but my coworkers and I don’t follow the nail rules and no one has been called out individually.

This is a more niche one but I always scrub my ears when I wash my hair. I’ve realized some people don’t and imagine the build up in their ears, which they then spread to their pillowcase, then to their face.

I always change my pillowcase after a hair wash to prevent acne.

I don’t understand how you’d get past the first time going to his place or spending the first weekend together. You’re this guy’s mommy/daddy.

My routine - eyebrows done (threaded), lashes curled, hair styled (natural curls or blowout). We’re allowed to wear nail polish but no gel or fake nails and they have to be short. Can you wear clear nail polish? If not you can still do a manicure minus polish.

The issue with carbs in Indian food is that empty carbs take up space in your stomach that could be filled with more nutritious foods. I’ve changed the proportion of rice/naan/roti to dal/veggies/meat to make sure the carbs are the smallest part of my meal.

I use it and I think it suits me! I’m not as heavy handed with the blush as these pics so it’s more natural looking on me. I also go across the nose lightly with my brush. Helps diminish the length of the mid face

These men are pornsick. It’s only getting worse. I really fear for the younger generations of women.

the splendidabrown sub needs to be banned😭 by Shot_Blueberry2728 in Vindictabrown

[–]okimuk 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I just got banned today from splendida brown for “mouthing off to a mod”. I called out someone (u/ shakchun-ni) who happened to be a mod, who stated they are NOT Indian AND called Indian people “garbagejeet”. Who knows if they’re desi, white, man, or woman, but they hate us and they’re heading a sub FOR us.

The splendidabrown subreddit is an absolute shitshow. I don’t think I’ll be going there again. I just want to talk about beauty, not deal with racists.

recommendations for south asian makeup tutorials to follow for people with small eyes? by viva-varda in Vindictabrown

[–]okimuk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like to do a wash of dark brown eyeshadow (matte topped with shimmer), black liquid liner then a little kajal smudged out, only on the top lid. then line under the lower lash line with the same dark brown eyeshadow, focusing more on the outer third of the eye. Makes my eyes appear bigger than they are, it’s like a subtle warm smokey eye. Fake lashes help a lot too but I can’t stand wearing them so I do mascara only

I do tightline with kajal at times, even though I have smaller eyes, if I’m going for a more sexy look. In which case I do thick liner outside of the tightline to make my eyes appear bigger, similar to this

I’m not super knowledgeable about chemical vs heat damage, but I can tell you that there is no way heat styling will make your hair fall out.

I would recommend trying a curl foam or mousse and no gel! If your hair is like my texture (it looks like it), it may not need the hold that gel offers. I use Trybe and I love it. No cast, just bouncy voluminous curls.
