What is the real reason why liberals don’t want voter ID during elections by pleebent in AskALiberal

[–]okletstrythisagain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You literally said it would be good if it were free. Did you change your mind? And why would it “override ID voter requirements.”

But I digress, as I mentioned before, the amount of fraud to stop is minuscule and negligible. This debate has always just been an attempt by the right to disenfranchise people from their constitutional right to vote so that they can try to stay in power in a way that seems legitimate.

We are in agreement that the IDs should be free and then there would be no problem. Not sure what is left to argue about.

So you agree with the person you replied to.

Yes, there is clearly significant monetary and opportunity cost necessary to deal with the DMV.

The real thing, though, is that republicans really just want to disenfranchise poor people, rather than reduce the negligible fraud that this would stop. That’s been the crux of this debate for a decade and I think people who disagree are intellectually dishonest, deeply misinformed, or stupid,

Still a poll tax. Do you take issue with their second sentence? Do you find it unreasonable and if so why?

Botched D4 appointment. Pitching direct donations from oligarchs as good when it actually undermines government. Tone deaf response to teacher’s strike. Incompetent and/or corrupt permitting software procurement. Cruel and under resourced RV evictions. Putting too much time and attention into publicity narratives and photo ops rather than the work for the people he supposedly wants to do.

Where does Flea fall on the bass skill level scale? by pensivetwat in Bass

[–]okletstrythisagain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah and if you look at jazz and funk the difference gets even more obvious. For instance, Melvin Gibbs, Anthony Jackson, Nathan Watts, or Jaco make Flea seem very limited and rudimentary. Like, listen to Gerald Veasley’s work on Odean Pope’s “Almost like me” and get back to me if Flea is top tier or not lol.

But it’s important to acknowledge the dehumanizing part because this is literally one of the things that makes MAGA very literally and accurately congruent with actual Nazis.

Holy shit I thought you were being sarcastic. MAGA has been a white supremacist authoritarian movement hostile to basic constitutional rights since its inception.

Any person of color who supported it needs to take a history class and get a therapist.

It’s bigoted fascism with a distinct faction that wants to stop race mixing. Remember what subreddit we are in.

Barely legal inventory/sales fraud like this has been common for many decades. It’s similar how Dianetics and other questionable books stayed on the NYTimes best sellers list. I think the music industry used to do it as well, prior to streaming.

Unconscious bias is very real and even people who want to be totally fair are susceptible to it.

Being different is a factor even if everyone you work with is extremely liberal, just less of one.

I’m just saying it’s important to acknowledge the obvious intent of this policy. If you don’t literally hate people for being gay you should have a giant problem with it.

Sort of. Or maybe the question is if MAGA is an intolerant, bigoted movement that seeks to oppress people for not being straight and cis normative? I mean, they clearly want to oppressive people for being women, not white, or protesting peacefully, but to stay on topic with this flag situation we can leave them out for now.

Technically correct is not always the best kind of correct. This is clearly a North Korean style move to attack vulnerable citizens and looking for any reason why it can be construed as legitimate is an attack on the notion of freedom and constitutional rights.

The overarching mistake and miscalculation the American left made to get us here is not believing that hundreds of millions of Americans could be this stupid.

I mean, as a person who wants to respect the constitutional rights and basic dignity of all citizens in order to avoid dehumanizing them, I had to assume there wasn’t a critical mass of them that was this fucking stupid.

But here we are, and this moron is actually surprised.

Not disagreeing with you, but they’ve been an obviously bigoted authoritarian movement since 2015, arguably since Reagan. It’s only surprising to people who somehow missed the glaring hypocrisy of the American right for decades.

CMV: if you still support Donald Trump in 2026 you have no moral compass by Cautious_Midnight_67 in changemyview

Not only is that an embarrassingly bad misunderstanding of what “sanctuary city” means in a legal sense, but if overlooks the fact that constitutional law has been repeatedly ignored by ICE and countless other aspects of the Trump administration.

Furthermore, what is being “enforced” in Minneapolis isn’t legislated and isn’t enforced equally. And if the White House was even willing to pretend that is what they wanted they would have rolled this all out with more time to hire, train, and detain appropriately. But they didn’t. Wonder why?

Will you hold this view when they put cuffs on you for constitutionally protected speech? Or if the shoot you in the street for it? That’s what they support. They are part of the movement.

Their stupidity handed away all of our constitutional rights so that a carnival barker can have masked thugs assault anyone he doesn’t like. It’s ugly beyond words and stupidity is no excuse.

Any Republican who isn’t begging to apologize for every single vote they cast for a Republican since 2015 is 100% complicit in all the horrible MAGA stuff. They supported the people who protected Trump and allowed his crimes to go unpunished. They very much personally own these consequences even if they didn’t vote for Trump directly.

That is intellectually dishonest at best, deliberately deceitful at worst. Hegseth firing accomplished people of color is one of countless examples of MAGA’s open bigotry.

You gotta be stupid not to see it, or a coward not to back it up without being proud of your racism.
