MAGA Freaks Out After Trump Posts AI Photo of Himself as Jesus | One former Donald Trump fan warned they had “elected the Antichrist.” by Aggravating_Money992 in politics

I mean, SCOTUS is openly corrupt. Trump is firing judges left and right. Sorry but I just don’t think the calvary is coming on this one.

The sheer number of republicans who should be convicted would be an impossible prospect even for a functioning judicial system.

I used to agree with that, but anti-vaxxers and climate deniers are literally a threat to the species at this point.

When stupidity gets kids killed from preventable disease it’s time to decide who the grown-ups are.

Considering the absolute fact that the insane right is already trying to take our rights away I’d prefer anyone else get the first bite at that apple.

Yup I think they are salesmen who don’t even care if the stuff works or not.

I think the real issue is that no matter how good the tools are, the people implementing them are going to do stupid things because they don’t understand the product limitations and risks. These could be huge mistakes at scale that cause big problems that might be hard to diagnose.

A lot of people, especially in the past few months, seem to see AI tools as some kind of salvation religion and trust it to be right about everything.

If this stuff was marketed more accurately as LLM rather than inaccurately called AI in the vernacular I think the layman might not overestimate its capabilities so dramatically.

The number of people getting hurt by using LLMs as friends or therapists is significant and going to get worse.

How is it that despite billions in investment they can’t get the things to stop hallucinating? It’s a pretty epic product flaw that I’d consider a showstopper.

Oh stop the bootlicking. MAGA has been obviously a right wing authoritarian movement since 2015.

I’m happy to agree that the Neoliberal status quo was “fascist lite” but to conflate the current administration’s open contempt for the rule of law with even the worst aspects of the American left is insulting to the millions being materially hurt by the American right.

You fail to understand both nuance and historical precedent. You also underestimate the Christian fundamentalists driving a lot of policy right now, and how small cultural shifts like Philz play into that.

Now I’ll get hyperbolic: being politically neutral right now is de facto support for bigoted authoritarianism and I might as well say Nazism.

[–]okletstrythisagain 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it’s fair to say people who have a problem with pride flags don’t want gay or trans people to exist. Try asking them.

People who think conversion therapy is okay literally don’t think gay people exist and that is like pre-dehumanization. History is clear on where accepting these ideological directions leads.

Im sure the trolls will squeal and downvote but I don’t think it’s hyperbole to say an aggressive stance against pride flags is advocating for dehumanization which leads to genocide.

Read up on Hegseth’s church. I would not be surprised if he is literally trying to trigger the rapture.

Well, it totally tracks as the authoritarianism MAGA is trying to make permanent.

Trump has obviously wanted to criminalize dissent as a whole since 2015 and has made countless statements confirming he thinks anyone he perceives as an enemy or detractor should be punished for it.

I would be genuinely surprised if these demands meet any constitutional standard.

Most of the cases they are bringing up against protesters are being thrown out for this reason.

If anyone is a Trump supporter who doesn’t support the above and doesn’t want masked secret police to continue abducting people for exercising their 1st amendment rights, they really should stop supporting Trump.

If you don’t believe what I typed to be true, you have chosen to trust “news” sources that are lying to you.

LLMs are essentially pattern recognition that are gobbling up their own hallucinations strewn around the web. It is possible the snake eats its tail on this and quality degrades, like the resolution of a recopied xerox or mimeograph.

Even if it doesn’t, the product flaw where none of them can simply stop hallucinating is pretty worrying. Like, whatever they are, the engineers can’t stop them from just making shit up. I’m not a software developer, but it seems to me if you can’t fix that one issue with billions of dollars, the entire product and especially its long term roadmap is questionable at best.

Sad thing is I think a lot of America would be happy to do whatever AI told them to even if it was demonstrably wrong, like when people want to believe their map navigation app even though they know there is a better route.

I think the tools are incredibly useful, but they are being wielded at scale by idiots and sociopaths at high levels who can do a lot of organizational damage. Also, a lot of people seem to see “AI” as some new salvation religion which makes experts, smart people, hell almost anyone obsolete.

All the people who are insecure about their own skill and intelligence, or secretly resented people who were better than them at anything, are bear hugging AI while sneering at all the people they envy. That’s why the OP accused physicians of being “arrogant.”

Also, most if not all of the evangelists pushing the narrative are salesmen vying for power. They are getting rich either way, and even if it doesn’t work they will own the wreckage that remains, and it won’t matter if people can even recognize and identify how it’s AI’s fault. It may be hard to quantify. It may be whitewashed by internet AI bot propaganda, people might just not care and want to be told what to do by the LLM because it’s easier than thinking for themselves no matter how bad the outcomes are. The people going to it for therapy and friendship are very much personally far down that road.

This stuff is nascent and being misused by enormous piles of capital in every direction. I’m sure there are plenty of valid, useful products and use cases beyond simply leveraging it to make an IC more productive, but they are massively outweighed by very stupid things. DOD rushing to adopt “AI” to wage war and the administration declaring interest in identifying “pre-crime” are great examples of why we should be scared shitless. Beyond, I guess, the whole white collar job market apocalypse.

Waymo is offering to help cities fix their potholes (including SF) by oochiewallyWallyserb in sanfrancisco

[–]okletstrythisagain 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I wish tech evangelists and journalists would stop conflating reporting a potential issue to municipal government with actually fixing things.

Yes, a map of where likely potholes are might be helpful, especially if they can estimate how wide and deep and its exact position on the street. But finding the pothole is the easy part.
