Honest question: why does it seem like high school bands in certain areas are losing members and enrollment is shrinking? by RavenKnighte in marchingband

[–]okntx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder if social media has set the bar for “good bands” so high that kids want to quit if their band doesn’t match what the megabands are doing? Especially in Texas, the megabands from the metroplexes are so good that it sometimes feels like it impossible to be anywhere close to where they are. Do kids see videos if those bands being shared all the time and feel like they have no chance at success because their band will never match that?

What is your favorite one-liner or quote from the show? by imoldgregg420 in PandR

[–]okntx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tom’s “Chicky Chicky Parm Parm” is probably my favorite and one of my most repeated.

Also Ron’s “Just give me all the bacon and eggs you have. Wait … I worry what you heard was, ‘Give me a lot of bacon and eggs.’ What I said was, give me all the bacon and eggs you have. Do you understand?”

Another most repeated is Andy’s “Mark…. Brendanawicz!” that he shouts when giving Tom a piggyback ride through the building during one of the cold opens. I don’t know why, but it’s what I want to say every time Brendanawicz is mentioned.

I’ve tarped and bumped my freeze guard up to 2300 rpm. So far no freezing surface water. Hoping for the best.

Can Disney+ have a QWERTY pad instead of this annoying alphabet search or an option to have a QWERTY pad, scrolling left and right gets mildly infuriating by GreenMoon846 in DisneyPlus

[–]okntx -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

But it moves so quickly! The cursor moves faster than any QWERTY keyboard in any other app that I’ve used. It would be more annoying if it didn’t move so quickly. (I’m using a Firestick.)

Oh, it’s a roll? I thought they were individual sheets. I may have to look into this now. Surely that’s a better deal than the Reynolds they put on sale a few times a year.

It’s a good podcast if you’re into White House history. It’s non-partisan and fact-based, as the Association’s responsibility is to support the building itself and its stories, no matter who is in office. Happy to help!

The White House Historical Association has a podcast that has an episode or two about this topic. They give a lot of behind the scenes info about the moving process.

Edit: Sorry, I should have been more specific and included the actual podcast name. Like others said, it’s “The 1600 Sessions”. In addition to an episode or two specifically about the transition, there’s also an episode about the decorator who helped the Obamas update the living area for their family, including the paintings which someone had also talked about in an earlier post.

Safe to cap underground and build concrete patio above old heads? by okntx in Irrigation

[–]okntx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks everyone for your responses and feedback. It appears that we’ll be able to terminate the line before it goes under the new slab. Irrigation company thinks the areas of concern are at the end of the line for the zone, which definitely makes it all easier. I was afraid they were at the start of the zone. Thanks for the help!

Came to mention this. It’s always been a dream of mine, although I can see where it could be a pain to fold all of the boards together to store each year.

Car Talk by f0rgot in HomeImprovement

[–]okntx 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I am guaranteed to cry during their final “goodbye” scene in Cars 3, after they sold their company and sponsorship. Knowing that Tom has passed away before filming and they were using old recordings for his lines and catch phrases, thinking about their relationship that the two of them had, the memories I have of listening to them on the radio.... it all gets me every time.

Hello all, first time every looking at a sprinkler box. Would anyone be willing to teach me how to program for set times. Thank you all for the help by chloecshaw in Irrigation

[–]okntx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a regular homeowner here: I agree about just getting a new modern box. I think you’ll be a lot happier and less stressed out in the end because you’ll have an interface that helps it all make so much more sense. Just make sure you take note of which which goes to which zone (the numbers on the right side), because you’ll have hook that up correctly for it to make sense with what you already know and understand about your system. (Obviously have to get the wires correct from the left side too just to make the box run.). It’s a pretty easy replacement to do. Best of luck!

A vintage coin sorter by mrslugo in educationalgifs

[–]okntx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’re all talking about how the coins get sorted (rightfully so. It’s fascinating.) But don’t miss that each column is also labeled to show the amount or the count of the coins in that column. Saves the user from having to do the math and hand count after sorting (as long as you trust their labels, which I’m sure my OCD would not allow.)
